Victoria Beckham insider breaks silence after Kate Middleton’s show of support amid feud

A source close to Victoria Beckham has revealed how she feels about the Princess of Wales’s recent show of support for the fashion designer – amid ongoing turmoil for the Beckham family

Princess Kate’s show of support for Victoria Beckham at a recent fashion event is indicative of the “mutual respect” between the fashion designer and the future Queen, a source close to the Beckhams has revealed.

The Princess of Wales donned a new piece from Victoria Beckham’s spring 2025 collection for the British Fashion Council event, which saw Kate award designer Patrick McDowell the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design.

Kate opted for an olive green patch pocket blazer with matching trousers from Victoria’s new collection, and a source close to the Beckhams said they thought it was “really great” that the Princess had chosen to support the brand and that it was Kate had made the move of her own volition.

“The Princess of Wales has worn Victoria’s designs before and it’s really great to see that she’s wearing one again, especially as the outfit was not gifted and was very much her own call to wear it,” they explained. “Both couples support each other’s charities and David and William are friends too, so there is a great deal of mutual respect there.”

It’s been a rocky few weeks for the Beckham family, with reports of a sad feud between the couple, their eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz. At a glitzy bash in Notting Hill to celebrate the football legend’s 50th birthday, his son Brooklyn was nowhere to be seen, which fueled rumours of a rift inside the family. Victoria is reportedly “heartbroken” at the fall-out with her daughter-in-law, so Kate’s public display of support for her designs is likely to be something of a boost.

Sources close to Nicola and Brooklyn claim that they did travel to London to see Victoria and David around the time of the birthday party in an attempt to patch things up – but claimed that the footballer and former Spice Girl wouldn’t meet with them privately.

However, friends of Nicola made some incendiary claims about the reasons behind the rift, citing “emotional abuse and toxic behaviour” inside the family, which was met with shock from sources close to Victoria and David, with one saying they were left “open-mouthed” at the mere suggestion.

Another source close to the Beckhams said, “I don’t think anyone who has ever seen David and Victoria with their children would recognise this deeply unpleasant attack. It doesn’t even warrant a response it’s so ludicrous and patently untrue.”

Kate has always been a big advocate of British fashion, and her choice of outfit for the BFC event was no exception, with a royal source saying about the look that it was “a show of support for British fashion, which is a huge passion for the princess”.

The immaculate £1,340 suit went down a treat with the award winner Patrick, 29, who said that Kate “looks incredible and is a real style icon”. Patrick was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design for his work as an up-and-coming designer who is leading the way in sustainable fashion and design, and he said the support he had received from the British Royal Family meant a lot to him.

“It’s a huge privilege and honour. We try to make sustainable circular fashion and it’s a real honour that the Royal Family and British Fashion Council has seen that and rewarding that today.” He added that it was “extra special” to be handed the prize by Kate, because “Throughout her tenure she’s been an amazing advocate of British fashion and really flies the flag for British fashion.”

Whilst visiting Patrick’s pop-up studio in the exhibition space at 180 Studios, Kate was even shown a new design that has been named in her honour – something that caused her to giggle with surprise. Caroline Rush, the outgoing BFC chief executive, told Kate she was looking at a design called a ‘Wales Bar’ – a specifically cut and fitted female jacket with sleeves in black. Kate asked how it got its name, to which Patrick replied: “I named it in your honour!”
