Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband allegedly told her she wasn’t s3xy enough for The Voice

Kelly Clarkson secured a role as a judge on The Voice, but not without pushback from NBC executives. Her ex-husband claimed she wasn’t ‘s3xy enough’ to appeal to the network

Kelly Clarkson claimed that her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock said she didn’t have the sex appeal to make it on The Voice as a judge.

Following their brutal 2020 divorce, Kelly and Brandon continued to be locked in litigation as she raised a flag to the California Labor Commissioner’s Office. While they were married, Brandon oversaw much of Kelly’s career in a managerial position. After expressing her desire to be on The Voice, she claimed Brandon told her she wasn’t s3xy enough for the job.

Additionally, Kelly claimed he overstepped his duties when he secured her gigs. According to the musician, that was the role of her talent agents, not her manager. She alleged that Brandon collected fees on the contracts she signed. A labor commissioner affirmed Kelly’s claims and ruled in her favor.

While she did join the judge’s panel in 2018, Kelly testified that Brandon told her NBC executives were “looking for a more sex symbol type,” per documents viewed by the New York Post. According to the star, Brandon said the network wanted someone more like Rihanna.

Plus, she claimed he told her the network was also worried about Kelly being too similar to longtime The Voice judge Blake Shelton given their similar country stardom status. Kelly also added that she was told NBC “had to have someone that was black. … They had to have a diverse thing.”

When doubt was thrown her way and her attorney was questioned on how Kelly was able to remember this conversation years later. Lawyer Ed McPherson said: “Well, a wife doesn’t forget a time she gets told she’s not a sex symbol, so that stays.”

According to Brandon, he did make efforts to secure Kelly a spot on The Voice, but to do so he put pressure on NBC. He said he claimed to executives that she was considering joining their competitors at American Idol instead if The Voice didn’t give her an offer.

He insisted that while doing so, he was under the mentorship of CAA music agents Darryl Eaton and Rick Roskin. Brandon’s lawyers said in the court documents: “Critically and consistent with their negotiation strategy, Blackstock informed [an NBC executive] that American Idol would be submitting an offer to Clarkson.”

While the deal was eventually secured, that same executive NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy was revealed by the Hollywood Reporter to have allegations of sexism, racism, and more against him. While he denied wrongdoing, NBC gave him the boot.

The Voice coach Gwen Stefani slammed for ‘half-n@ked’ outfit choice for the show finale

The Voice coach Gwen Stefani wore a holiday-themed dress for the season 24 finale but some viewers were not fans of the outfit choice deeming it risque for the family show

Gwen Stefani dressed in a festive mini-dress for the season 24 finale of The Voice this week, and some fans had some things to say about her outfit choice.

The Hollaback Girl singer had her blonde hair down with some of her hair tucked behind both ears. She showed off the dress on her Instagram page, shaking her hips to have the ruffles adorning the bottom move back and forth.

The dress was long-sleeved and pale green, red, blue, and black colored. A sequin black star adorned the bodice along with black filigree designs.

A v-shaped style was how the dress ended, leading from her hips down to the middle of her thighs. She paired the look with silver hoop earrings, fishnet stockings, and sparkly knee-high boots.

Some praised the look, which she wore for some of the finale including a holiday-themed performance of Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! with fellow judges Niall Horan, Reba McIntyre, and John Legend. Others thought it was a bit too risque for the competition show.

“Why does Gwen always have to be half-n@ked? I want a Christmas show,” one fan wrote on social media. Another added: “Who’s her stylist? She can’t make up all these ugly gowns by herself can she?!”

Later in the show she wore a princess-liken pink tulle gown. Gwen has been known throughout her career for some wild outfits, especially on The Voice.

Gwen has been a coach on the show for seven seasons sporadically since 2014. She’s also been an advisor for two seasons.

The star met her now-husband country singer Blake Shelton on the show who was a fellow coach. The two announced their relationship in November 2015 and got engaged in October of 2020. They married at a chapel on Blake’s Oklahoma ranch in July of 2021.

This season, Gwen didn’t have any artists on her team make it to the finale. Instead, the finalists were Jacquie Roar and Ruby Leigh from Reba’s team; Lila Forde from Team John; and Mara Justine and Huntley from Niall’s team.

Huntley went on to win the season, marking Niall’s second year in a row that he’s won the show. Niall has only been a judge these past two seasons so he sports an undefeated streak.

The Voice fans in hysterics as Reba McEntire ‘boos’ John Legend after his bold move

The Voice fans were cracking up Monday as they watched Reba McEntire boo her fellow celebrity judge John Legend as he intercepted her steal to recruit Bryan onto her team

The Voice fans were in hysterics Monday evening as Reba McEntire hilariously “booed” her fellow celebrity judge John Legend onstage after intercepting her steal and sending Bryan straight to playoffs.

Battles began on The Voice and contestants gave it their all – leaving judges grappling with the hard decision of who to send home. An especially hard call came after an electric performance collaboration between Nathan and Bryan as they sang their hearts out to a duet version of Rolling in the Deep by Adele. The spin on the classic heartbreak song left judges in awe and with John with the impossible choice to pick one of the talented singers to go home.

After the performance, cameras turned to celebrity judges Reba McEntire, Dan + Shay, and Chance The Rapper as they were asked to give their thoughts on who won the singing battle. All the star-studded sang their praises for the talented pair with Reba raving: “Oh my gosh it was powerful, your choreography was flawless, Bryan – I love your style. It’s a little quirky and that’s what I loved about it. Nathan – powerhouse.”

While the judges had no feedback for John to make his decision, he ultimately landed on sending Nathan onto the next round. And while Bryan was beginning to accept that it was time to pack his bags and go home, both Reba and Dan + Shay both used their one and only steal of the season to recruit Bryan onto their teams.

But before the judges were able to give their case on why Bryan should join their crew, John shockingly intercepted them and gave Bryan his playoff pass sending the star straight to the playoff round of the competition. This decision from John left judges floored with Dan + Shay asking “Is this legal?,” Chance The Rapper raving “This is must-see TV,” and Reba jokingly booing and shooting a thumbs down to her fellow judge.

Fans were in full agreement with John’s move and agreed that the battle was one of the best they’ve seen this season. One viewer wrote: “Can’t believe this battle! THE BEST I’ve seen in a long time! Great job.” Another added: “Wow I thought they both did such A great & Amazing Job I’m glad John was able to keep them both So Congratulations to them!!!” And a third said: “Holy moly, that was fabulous! The Voice fans think John Legend made a ‘big mistake’ for keeping ‘Taylor Swift contestant’ after Dan + Shay were compared to the mega-star.

On Monday nights episode of The Voice, Team Legend’s Jackie Romeo and Zoe Levert went head to head as they were the last performance of the night. Jackie was the first to start the Knockout round and sang her version of Rihanna’s Love On the Brain, while Zoe sang Cowboy Take Me Away by The Chicks.

The coaches were torn once as they praised both their renditions. Dan + Shay enjoyed Zoe’s performance so much that Shay Mooney even compared her to Grammy winning artist, Taylor Swift.

At the end, he chose Zoe over Jackie, which left fans upset and believe he made a mistake.

Luckily for fans, Reba used her last steal on Jackie and will be seeing her during the playoffs. Reba was happy to push her button and ran to give the emotional contestant a hug. Reba told the viewers: “Jackie can sing country, Jackie can sing anything she wants, ’cause she’s that strong of a singer. I’m very excited to work with her during the playoffs.”

This was not the first steal Reba used on this episode. She tried to use her last seat during the beginning of the episode on Kamalei Kawa’a who sang All of Me by John Legend. Kamalei had to choose between Reba or John.

Judges John Legend and Dan + Shay made it clear that they were going to “steal” which ever Chance did not pick and both hit the button.

He added: “The whole demeanor with what you carry yourself, with gratitude and your spirit, we feel that. It comes through in your voice as well.” He added: “I don’t know who Chance is going to choose but I know I have a steal left.”

Chance ended up choosing Maddi and as soon as Kamalei thanked his coach for his experience, here comes John and Reba McEntire pushing down their steal button. This gave Kamalei another chance to compete on the singing competition.

To convince Kamalei to choose him, John said: “You bring so much of you to this competition. After the hopefuls give a powerhouse performance with a unique take on the Adele hit, their coach John Legend seeks guidance from Reba McEntire, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay to help him make the seemingly impossible decision on who to eliminate and who to send to the Knockout Rounds. However, their rave reviews leave him disappointed.

“Bryan, Nathan, that was absolutely incredible,” Reba tells the competitors. “That harmony, oh my gosh it was powerful. Your choreography was flawless. Bryan, I love your style. It’s a little quirky, that’s what I loved about it. Nathan, powerhouse. John, I don’t think I’m any help for you buddy, I’m sorry.”

Meanwhile, Chance applauds Nathan’s “strong personality and great control,” but also compliments Bryan’s dynamics and range, adding, “You guys are both really powerful vocalists.”

“I think either one of you guys could talk the win,” the rapper adds. “I think it was a great performance, that’s why everyone was screaming.”

And after Dan + Shay can’t find one negative critique to give to either of the two, John jokingly ribs his fellow coaches.

“Can you imagine a quartet of people more unhelpful than these four people?” the Grammy winner quips. “Obviously you two created this problem by being so incredible. I loved the physical interaction you had with each other. You also really committed to giving this song a refresh. This version sounded like no other version. You were both A+++.”

An emotional John Legend cover brings out the tears — and the steals! — during The Voice Knockouts

Send a box of tissues directly to Reba McEntire’s chair.

It’s nice when something that feels meant to be works out in the end, isn’t it? It was certainly the case for The Voice season 25 contestant Kamalei Kawa’a and his time during the Knockouts, which came to a close this evening (fare thee well, Mega Mentor Keith Urban!).

Team Chance had the first Knockout slot of the night. Chance the Rapper used it as an opportunity to pair R&B pop singer Maddi Jane against the angel voice from Hawaii, Kamalei Kawa’a. Going into rehearsals, Chance was aware that these two were “top tier” and “some of the best all-time Team Chance talent.”

Maddi and Kamalei couldn’t be any more different in their approach to performing: Maddi is “explosive” and energetic with a huge range. Kamalei, meanwhile, has been more soft-spoken and still since the Blinds, letting his heart and emotion come through in his vocals. Their choice of songs this round also point to their marked differences: Maddi goes with Dua Lipa bop “New Rules” and Kamalei goes with the swoony John Legend classic “All of Me.” While Chance and Keith advise Maddi to skip the rapping and focus on showing off her big vocals, Keith tells Kamalei to go even softer and more tender because he’s “gonna pull [him] in with [his] voice and heart, because they’re completely one.” The country star clearly realizes Kamalei’s secret weapon. This Knockout will come down to who pulls a perfect performance off and seems the most ready to move into the Playoffs. Still, Chance already thinks there’s a good chance whoever he doesn’t pick will get stolen.

    Kamalei Kawa’a during the Knockouts.

Both Maddi and Kamalei do exactly as rehearsed and make Chance’s job as hard as possible here. Maddi’s stage presence could be a big advantage in the eventual Live Rounds, so it doesn’t seem off-base for Chance to hand her the win.

But Kamalei has nothing to be disappointed about. During critiques, John himself notes how hard he usually is on people who cover his songs, but calls Kamalei’s version “so beautiful.” He goes on: “The whole demeanor with which you carry yourself with, like gratitude and your spirit, we feel that and it comes through in your voice as well.” When his own coach is praising him for his ability to take a John Legend hit and make it his own, Kamalei says “it makes it easy when you have a beautiful wife” to sing it to, and if you didn’t like the guy before, you certainly do by this point.

Kamalei is in tears thanking Chance for “the moments [he] gave [him]” on The Voice stage. Before you know it, both John and Reba McEntire have pushed their steal buttons to try and get Kamalei on their teams. Kamalei has tears streaming down his face, beyond excited to continue his time on this show.

You know who else is crying at this point? Mama Reba. She can barely get her pitch out, but she wants Kamalei to know that “the greatest singers in the world sometimes don’t touch my heart. You’ve got a big heart and you share it with people.” Reba is moved by Kamalei and the way he connects with a song and audience. She is several tissues deep at this point.

And still, Kamalei chose “All of Me” because it is the exact lane of music he wants to pursue. John, continually impressed with Kamalei’s authenticity and vulnerability, says what we’re all thinking: Kamalei winding up on Team Legend “would be the most poetic outcome to this moment.” And in the end, we get some poetry. Kamalei joins Team Legend and even Reba can admit that “it was meant to be.”

‘The Voice’: Reba McEntire Gets Emotional Over the Last Knockout Steals

Kamalei Kawa’a, Jackie Romeo and more brought the country queen to tears during Monday’s Knockouts!

It was week two of the Knockout Rounds on Monday’s The Voice — and coach Reba McEntire had some emotional decisions to make!

Reba McEntire hands fellow 'Voice' coaches tissues for their tears

The first Knockout was Chance the Rapper’s team members Maddi Jane versus Kamalei Kawa’a. Maddi brought the house down with a high-octane rendition of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules,” while Kamalei stuck to his heartfelt ballad roots and performed John Legend’s “All of Me” in honor of his wife, leaving Chance’s fellow coaches — Reba, John and Dan + Shay — struggling to help him decide.

“Chance has his hands full,” Shay praised. “You both deserve to be here.”

John admitted that he tends to be overcritical of Voice contestants who sing his songs, but told Kamalei, “I was just really into your version. It was beautiful.”

“I don’t know who Chance is gonna choose, but I know I have a steal left!” he teased.

When Chance finally made up his mind naming Maddi as the winner, it didn’t take long before both John and Reba hit their buttons to steal Kamalei to their own teams.

“Your voice, it just makes me feel good,” Reba said, brushing away tears. “The greatest singers in the world sometimes don’t touch my heart. You’ve got a big heart, and you share it with people.”

Ultimately, Kamalei’s connection with John proved too much for Reba to overcome, but that meant the country queen got a second chance to use her steal later in the episode. After Team Legend’s Zoe Levert and Jackie Romeo faced off, the coaches were torn once again as they praised Jackie’s rendition of Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain” and Zoe’s “Cowboy Take Me Away” by The Chicks.

Zoe’s blossoming talent gave her the slight edge in John’s eyes, however, after he named her the winner, Reba quickly pressed her button to steal Jackie — who immediately broke down in shocked tears.

“Jackie can sing country, Jackie can sing anything she wants, ’cause she’s that strong of a singer,” Reba told the cameras before comforting her newest team member backstage.

“Continue to have fun,” she told the tearful singer. “I love you!”

Season 25 marks the second season of The Voice without O.G. coach Blake Shelton, and when ET spoke with John — now the most-tenured coach on the show — ahead of the Battle Rounds, he admitted that he doesn’t think there’s a good chance that Blake will ever return to the show.

“I feel like Gwen is the only chance we have,” John shared with a laugh. “[Blake] is staying on the farm, he’s enjoying himself. I’ve talked to him and he’s, like, picking corn… I don’t think he has any desire to come back to Hollywood and film The Voice.”

The Voice: Reba McEntire cries during rehearsal as singers deliver emotional rendition of You Say on NBC show | Daily Mail Online

However, that doesn’t mean that the competition on season 25 is any less daunting, John insisted.

“[Reba’s] obviously very seasoned in her career, she’s done everything from television to many, many, many, many, many hit songs over her career and performing on every stage you can imagine,” he praised. “She just brings such a wealth of experience and expertise to our show. We’re so lucky to have her.”

As for Dan + Shay, John said the duo has the “new coach fire,” adding, “They’re trying to win. We definitely battled back and forth when it came to the blind auditions and yeah, they’ve got the fire. They want to win.”
