’N Sync’s Chris Kirkpatrick Says He ‘Couldn’t Be In The Same Room’ As This Backstreet Boy

    LOADINGERROR LOADING

“I know that I can’t take no more / It ain’t no lie / I want to see you out that door,” Chris Kirkpatrick sang as a member of ’N Sync in 2000 ― and he apparently felt that exact way about a certain Backstreet Boy.

Few fans of pop culture can forget the boy-band bonanza of the late ’90s and early aughts. With an abundance of groups like ’N Sync, Backstreet Boys, O-Town, Boyz II Men, New Kids on the Block and 98 Degrees, it’s hardly surprising there would be some rivalry both on and off the stage.

In an interview with Variety, Chris opened up about how his friendships with other boy-band singers have evolved over the years ― in particular, his friendship with the Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean.

“There was a time when I couldn’t be in the same room with this guy,” Chris told Variety. “But there’s always been a mutual respect, and now that we’re all parents, we’ve grown up. Reflecting on things, it’s cool to see what each of the bands did and how it all worked together. It really was this symbiotic relationship with Backstreet, 98 Degrees, us and even O-Town and other bands that came in.”

Fans of both bands will remember Chris and AJ as the notably “alt” members of their respective groups. AJ was almost always seen with a goatee and sunglasses and/or a hat, while Chris rocked everything from braids to spiky hair alongside earrings and a goatee of his own. Perhaps this prompted their beef?

The world may never know. At any rate, their rivalry has since been quashed, and Chris says he now counts AJ as one of his closest friends. AJ even referred to himself, Chris and 98 Degrees singer Jeff Timmons as “the Three Stooges.”

The trio have all taken part in a side band called ATCK (All the Cool Kids), which was formed by AJ and Brandon Mashburn (DJ Lux) and includes a rotating lineup of musicians, according to Variety.

AJ, Chris and Jeff even joked about doing a concert event that would make any J-14 subscriber freak out: a 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys and ’N Sync World Stadium Tour.

While the mention of such a tour was merely a joke by Jeff, we can’t help but add that we think it’s an absolutely brilliant idea. Get to work, fellas.

    Backstreet Boys’s A.J. McLean Declares Himself a ‘F*g Hag’

    A.J. McLean isn’t gay, but he’s definitely gay-friendly.

The Backstreet Boys singer opened up to Pride Source about all things LGBT, including his gay friends, fans, and hopes for marriage equality. The 35-year-old, who memorably dressed in drag for a photo shoot prior to his 2011 wedding to wife Rochelle, even declared himself the “f*g hag” in his group.

“I’ve been in this business since I was 3 and I grew up in musical theater, so I was raised and surrounded by gay men and gay women,” McLean told the website. “I was hardly around anyone straight.”

As for what it feels like for gay fans of the Backstreet Boys wishing one of the members turned out to be gay, McLean said, “I think it’s awesome. It’s great. I’ve worn a dress at my wedding. I’ve worn 6-inch Louboutins. I’ve got no fear and no shame.”

Though he says most fans think it’s another member of the group, not him.

“There’s one [fan] named Matt and he’s a big, big Nick Carter fan,” he continued. “He’s this older gentleman from Tampa and he’s gay, and he’s been following us during this whole tour from China to Japan and now through the U.S. I think he really hopes that Nick might have a little bit of gay.”

McLean then added, “I don’t think he does. I’m gonna say no.”

While members of other boy bands, including New Kids on the Block and ‘N Sync, have come out in recent years, McLean says not to expect it from his own.

“Everyone always says, ‘When you look at a boy band, one of them has to be gay,’” he said. “No, they don’t. Instead of me being gay, I’m the f*g hag.”

The singer went on to say that he was the driving force behind the band’s new video for “In a World Like This,” which celebrates marriage equality.

“It stemmed from me personally,” he said. “I have a lot of gay friends and two of my best friends have been together for almost 10 years. And living in California, it’s been so friggin’ frustrating to me that they could not get it right; they couldn’t pass the bill. Then, literally, right after we dropped the video, they actually passed the bill [allowing LGBT people to legally married] in California, and I was just ecstatic.

“I just love the fact that people love each other, no matter if they’re the same sex or not. I think everybody’s equal, period.”

Who’s the richest Backstreet Boy? Net worths, ranked

Who’s the richest Backstreet Boy? Net worths, ranked – Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough have raked in millions – but who starred on RuPaul’s Drag Race?

    Backstreet’s back, all right!

It’s been nearly three decades since Backstreet Boys made its debut, but the legacy of the American 90s boy band strongly lives on.

Comprising five members – Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough – the group, which was formed in Orlando, Florida in 1993, evokes the very essence of nostalgia for many long-time fans.

Yet, unlike some artists who peak then drop off the radar, these boys – now men – have somehow stayed relevant today, selling over 65 million albums worldwide to date, per The New York Times.

Backstreet Boys are releasing a Christmas album this year. Photo: @backstreetboys/Instagram

From Drake performing “I Want it That Way” with the OGs on his tour – and reminiscing about how the song reminded him of his middle-school crush – to Ed Sheeran covering the same song in a recent performance in Ibiza, it’s safe to say their reputation is cemented in modern day pop culture too.

Sure, their glory days – of smash hits like “As Long As You Love Me” and “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” – may be over, but they’ve kept busy with new music and new ventures.

Plus, “Everybody” has stuck together. The group is currently on another world tour and recently recorded an upcoming festive album, A Very Backstreet Christmas. Individually, they make headlines too, like AJ McLean’s dramatic drag queen transformation into Poppy Love on RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race, or Howie D’s new handbag line with his wife, Eslla.

Adorably, all five of the boys are currently married to their long-term partners and have kids too.

Together, the Backstreet Boys are worth US$200 million – but who’s the richest, according to Celebrity Net Worth estimations?

McLean has come a long way after battling with drug and alcohol abuse for years. Formerly dubbed the “bad boy” of the group, he declared his sobriety in 2020 and said he is now “in the best shape and mindset of his life”, according to USA Today.

Besides his Backstreet Boys earnings, McLean had a brief solo career working with One Republic’s Ryan Tedder and NSync’s JC Chasez under the pseudonym Johnny No Name, putting his fortune at US$30 million.

He married hairstylist Rochelle DeAnna McLean in 2010 and the couple have two kids together.

    4. Nick Carter, 42 – US$35 million

In 2002, Carter took a break from BSB to launch his solo career under Jive. He’s since released three solo albums, but remained a permanent fixture in the band and continued to make music with them.

He previously dated hotel heiress and socialite Paris Hilton before marrying fitness trainer Lauren Kitt, with whom he shares three kids.

    3. Kevin Richardson, 50 – US$40 million

Richardson has made sporadic appearances in films like The Bloody Indulgent, but his US$40 million net worth also stems from modelling jobs with Versace, Tag Heuer and even a Vogue shoot.

He’s been with his wife Kristin Richardson for over 20 years, with two kids.

    2. Howie Dorough, 49 – US$40 million

Dorough’s fortune ties with Richardson’s US$40 million. The 49-year-old also launched a solo career releasing one album, Back to Me, and has a few acting gigs on his resume, from Roswell to Dead 7.

In 2004, he co-founded a production firm, HC Entertainment, and another one later, 3 Street Management, which represents Canadian band Neverest, per Celebrity Net Worth. He also started a real estate development company, Sweet D, with his brother John.

Dorough is married to his long-time partner Leigh Boniello and they have two kids together.

    1. Brian Littrell, 47 – US$45 million

Littrell comes in as richest of the boys with a US$45 million net worth. The Christian singer enjoys a lucrative solo career with his 2005 album Welcome Home selling over 100,000 copies, per Celebrity Net Worth.

As a child, the star suffered from a serious heart condition, and in 1998, he underwent an open-heart surgery which, thankfully, proved successful. This led him to start a charity for children who have the same disease.

Like his bandmates, Littrell makes his enormous wealth through BSB’s success together with his solo career, and has been married to Leighanne Littrell since 2000. They have one son, Baylee.

  • Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean Reveals Shock At Bandmate Brian Littrell’s Vocal Problems (Exclusive)

Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean Reveals Shock At Bandmate Brian Littrell’s Vocal Problems (Exclusive)

Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean Reveals Shock At Bandmate Brian Littrell’s Vocal Problems, Seen In New Documentary (Exclusive)

Backstreet Boy AJ McLean reveals he was shocked and surprised when bandmate Brian Littrell broke it to him that he had a condition, meaning he couldn’t always sing the way he used to.

AJ tells HuffPostUK that the band were recording their most recent album in a London studio, and he could tell something wasn’t right with Brian’s voice, but he was still shocked when Brian asked the rest of the band to sit down, because he needed to tell them something.

The Backstreet Boys show a new vulnerability in the new film documenting their entire story

AJ remembers: “He told us he had vocal tension dysphonia, which I had never heard of in my life. Immediately some of the guys were jumping on the internet, trying to look up stuff to see if they could help.”

A fly-on-the-wall documentary ‘Backstreet Boys: Show Em What You’re Made Of’ includes footage of Brian, who had one of the strongest voices in the group when they were at the peak of their success, having therapy for his condition, which constricts the vocal cords and can prevent any sound coming out. Brian has separately revealed he also suffers from dystonia, a form of disconnect between brain and vocal cords, and that these are both nervous conditions, which can be caused by stress, and the kind of hectic lifestyle that goes with selling 130 million albums worldwide.

One of the film’s key scenes shows frustrated bandmate Nick Carter blowing up at Brian, shouting, “Are we going to talk about this?” but AJ, a recovering alcoholic, says he has a lot of empathy for his afflicted bandmate.

It’s similar to what I went through,” he agrees. “It’s about working on yourself, overcoming your demons.

“But it starts with him. If he doesn’t do the work, it’s never going to change.

“But he’s competitive and stubborn, he’s a lion and he’ll fight. Hats off to him, he’s doing everything he can. I can hear his voice getting better.”

AJ McLean with pal Brian Littrell, who he says is working hard to get his voice back in shape

AJ’s own chequered history saw him christened the bad boy of the outfit, something he jovially half-acknowledges.

“I think every member of a boyband needs a label,” he reflects. “The young one, the funny one… I felt into the slot of bad boy, but I’m really the biggest teddy bear.” Pause…

“I may have been masquerading as the bad boy, that could explain the hair colour, the tattoos, the smoking, the drinking…”

“I still have my moments of fun, but now they’re sober ones.”

The film follows the band as they embark on their eighth studio album, following Kevin Richardson’s return to the band in 2012 and lucrative tour. But it also digs into their past, with each of the five taking the other four to his hometown, and introducing him to formative teachers and other mentors. Unsurprisingly, there are also some bad memories revisited – Kevin Richardson’s moving account of his terminally ill father waving him off at the door, Nick Carter staring silently at the house where his now divorced parents fought throughout his childhood – and many tears are shed.

“We decided we had to be completely honest, and not hold anything back,” says AJ now. “We actually forgot the cameras were there for some of it.”

The Backstreet Boys were making millions back when they started, but didn’t see any of the money

One of the more spontaneous and revealing moments in the film is when the band makes a return visit to the former home of their creator and mentor Lou Pearlman. Pearlman is now in jail, sentenced to 25 years after conviction of of a massive Ponzi scheme fraud in 2008, and the house is deserted. The five end up actually inside the house, wandering through the rooms where they once sat in awe of ‘Big Poppa’, not realising all the while that their efforts were paying for all of this, while they saw only tiny bits of pocket money along the way.

“For some of the guys it was bittersweet, that trip,” AJ reveals. “Nick wouldn’t go inside, and Brian was done pretty soon.

“You’re looking at the house that you built, and there wasn’t any return,” he says ruefully, remembering a more innocent time. “I remember us performing in these big arenas night after night, and yet there was so little cash, so you know something somewhere’s not right.

“But the last figure you would ever think of was Big Poppa, because we were so close to him. So it’s a harsh reality that surfaces, and we’ve all had to deal with it in our own ways.

“We’re much better businessmen these days,” he adds.

The other difference he describes is “much more mutual respect between the five of us”, enhanced no doubt by the change in status. All five are now married, and four are fathers.

“I can’t speak for the others, but my priorities have changed, certainly,” says AJ. “I live for what I do, but being a father is the best job.”

The film is an absorbing journey from the dizzy heights of boyband uber-success, to the lows of lawsuits, rehab, reality TV and therapy (Kevin Richardson alone seems to have made it through unscathed, taking the relatively serene road of screen acting and Broadway), and by the end it’s only a steel heart that isn’t rooting for them to enjoy success again this time around. AJ is openly proud of the film, and it’s no doubt a dedicated fan-fest, but what is there for the non-BSB worshipper to enjoy?

“I think it’s an insight into the highs and lows of this business, this huge machine,” he ponders.

“I hope viewers will have a new respect for the industry, and those of us who’ve had to change in it, and will no doubt have to change again.”

Finally, AJ McLean, what’s your own favourite Backstreet Boys song?

“It’s Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of… and I’m not just saying that,” he adds quickly.

Justin Timberlake seemingly confirms new *NSYNC song ‘Paradise’ on his upcoming album

    Wink-wink.

Justin Timberlake seemingly confirmed that his *NSYNC bandmates JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Joey Fatone have again reunited for their second new song in over 20 years, “Paradise,” which will be on his upcoming album, “Everything I Thought It Was,” out March 15.

JT fans started asking questions after the 43-year-old “Drown” singer showed off his new deluxe vinyl edition of the record Sunday on TikTok.

“Blink twice if *NSYNC is on a song called ‘Paradise,’” one fan begged Timberlake to confirm their suspicions.

On Wednesday, the “What Goes Around…Comes Around” singer made another video reacting to this comment, pulling down his sunglasses and blinking twice before sliding them back up with a smirk.

The Post has contacted reps for Timberlake for comment.

Bass, 44, added to the excitement, asking Timberlake in a comment, “Got something in your eye?” while Kirkpatrick, 52, reacted with the side-eye emoji.

The five *NSYNC boy banders reunited in the summer of 2023 with their single “Better Place,” which was included on the “Trolls Band Together” soundtrack.

Since then, fans have been begging for more new music from the group which Timberlake teased in January on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”

“We’ve been in the studio, so there may be a little something in the future, too,” Timberlake said to a very excited Kelly Clarkson.

“That was fun,” he said about getting back together for “Better Place.” “It’s kind of crazy, like, there’s so much that just picks up right where it left off as far as the chemistry.”

While Fatone, 47, and Backstreet Boy AJ McLean, 46, have announced a tour of their own this spring, some fans are still hoping that the *NSYNC boys will join Timberlake on his upcoming “Forget Tomorrow World Tour.”

“Now blink 3 times if NSYNC will pop in with you on tour…” one fan commented on Timberlake’s latest TikTok.

  • Yankees Southpaw Carlos Rodón Surrenders Two Homers Against Rays, While Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Continues Red-Hot Streak

Yankees Southpaw Carlos Rodón Surrenders Two Homers Against Rays, While Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Continues Red-Hot Streak

Carlos Rodón gave up two more homers over three-plus innings on Wednesday in the New York Yankees’ 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

AL batting champion Yandy Díaz homered on the game’s first pitch, a 93 mph fastball. Richie Palocios had a two-run drive on Rodón’s 60th and final offering at Tampa, Florida. Rodón allowed three runs and five hits

“He didn’t have great life on his fastball today,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I thought, really, in between the first and the last pitch I felt he pitched really well.”

Rodon went 3-8 with a 6.85 ERA in 14 starts during an injury-filled 2023. He is in the second season of a $162 million, six-year contract.

“I just need to stay on the mound,” Rodón said. “I’m pretty good when I’m healthy.”

Rodón was coming off a simulated game last Friday in which he allowed four homers to Yankees’ minor leaguers over three innings. He allowed one hit, a solo homer, in 2 1/3 innings against Toronto in his other spring training start on Feb. 25.

Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo returned to the lineup and struck out in all three at-bats. He had been out with a bruised left leg after getting hit by a pitch last Saturday against Baltimore.

Reliever Tommy Kahnle, slowed by a shoulder injury, said “it’s trending” that he won’t be ready for opening day and may not start pitching in rehab games until the first week of the regular season.

    OHTANI KEEPS HITTING

Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani went 2 for 2 with a walk against the Chicago White Sox and is 7 of 12 with seven RBIs so far in Cactus League play.

The 29-year-old Ohtani is in his first season with the Dodgers since signing a record $700 million, 10-year contract. The two-way Japanese star had right elbow surgery in September that will keep him from pitching this year.

GIOLITO EXPLORING OPTIONS ON AILING ELBOW

Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito will be headed to Alabama for a second opinion on his ailing right elbow.

Manager Alex Cora told reporters that Giolito will go to Birmingham on Monday to talk with Dr. Jeffrey R. Dugas as they explore treatment options, including surgery.

Giolito signed a $38.5 million, two-year deal with Boston. He made two starts in spring training, throwing two scoreless innings in his first outing before getting roughed up allowing four runs and three walks in 2 1/3 innings against Minnesota last Friday. Giolito then reported the discomfort in his elbow.

Giolito was the first overall pick by Washington in the 2012 amateur draft, agreed to a $2,925,000 signing bonus and made his professional debut that Aug. 14 in the Gulf Coast League. That was his only appearance before Tommy John surgery on Aug. 31, 2012, with Dr. Lewis Yocum.

The 29-year-old Giolito was an All-Star in 2019 and is 61-62 with a 4.43 ERA.

    BELLINGER MAKES SPRING DEBUT

Chicago Cubs star Cody Bellinger made his spring training debut against the Los Angeles Angels, finishing with a walk in three plate appearances.

Bellinger finalized an $80 million, three-year deal on Feb. 27. He had a bounce-back season with the Cubs in 2023, batting .307 with 26 homers and 20 stolen bases.

ROSARIO TO NATS ON MINOR LEAGUE DEAL

Outfielder Eddie Rosario and the Washington Nationals have agreed to a minor league contract with a non-roster invitation to spring training, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because Rosario’s agreement had not been announced. The deal is pending the successful completion of a physical exam.

The 32-year-old Rosario is a left-handed hitter who has played nine seasons in the major leagues with the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves.

He started most of Atlanta’s games in left field last season, hitting 21 homers with 74 RBIs while batting .255. But the Braves — who led the majors with 104 wins in 2023 — declined a $9 million option for him this season.

Rosario was a star of Atlanta’s run to the 2021 World Series title. In the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers that year, he hit .560 (14 of 35) with three homers and nine RBIs to win MVP honors.

LOWE WORKING BACK TO ’21 FORM

Rays infielder Brandon Lowe is healthy and working to put the previous two injury-marred seasons behind him.

After hitting 39 homers and driving in 99 runs in 2021, Lowe was limited to 65 games in 2022 and 109 last year due to back and knee injuries.

“Don’t worry about results for a little while, and go out here and try to make sure to take your at-bats, get your timing down,” Lowe said. “Try to put yourself in as many situations as you can to emulate the season and make sure that you’re healthy.”

Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said Lowe looks good and is motivated.

“I like the fact that he’s able to do everything,” Cash said. “He had to pull back on some of his routine, some of the amount of ground balls that he could take last year even before he got banged up because we were managing the workload on his back and then he fouled the ball off the knee and couldn’t do anything.”

    CREWS HITS HR FOR NATS

Dylan Crews, last year’s No. 2 overall pick for the Nationals, hit his first spring training homer against the Miami Marlins. He finished 2 for 3 and also had a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, lifting his batting average to .286.

The 22-year-old was a star in college at LSU, where he was teammates with No. 1 overall pick Paul Skenes, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

    ADOLIS GARCÍA

Adolis García made his first 2024 appearance in a Cactus League game, going 1 for 3 with a solo home run down the left field line in the fourth inning. García, who had batted in camp games and Tuesday’s “B” game against Kansas City, was the Rangers’ designated hittee.

Selena Gomez Confronts Hailey Bieber Over Alleged Bullying: Explosive Showdown Unveiled

Selena Gomez recently had a confrontation with Hailey Bieber over allegations of bullying. The tensions between the two arose from the longstanding history Gomez has with Bieber’s husband, Justin Bieber. In a recent Instagram Live video, Gomez discussed her emotions and experiences related to her past relationship with Justin, and later criticized Bieber’s fans for their behavior towards her.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez had a tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship that spanned several years. During this time, both celebrities faced immense scrutiny from the public and their respective fanbases.

Gomez has been open about the mental and emotional toll these circumstances took on her and how it affected her self-esteem.

The controversy started when Gomez admitted her vulnerability and how she felt “attacked” by some individuals connected to Bieber. Although she did not explicitly mention Hailey Bieber’s name, fans speculated that Gomez was referring to her due to her proximity to Justin and her fan base’s supposed involvement.

Hailey Bieber, sensitive to the accusations, responded with a defensive Instagram story, denying any involvement in bullying Gomez. She claimed that people should not jump to conclusions without knowing the full story.

Bieber expressed her support for women and her belief in spreading kindness. Gomez then reportedly reached out to Bieber, and the two had a private conversation where Gomez conveyed her feelings and reportedly cleared the air.

It is important to note that neither Gomez nor Bieber provided any specific details regarding the alleged bullying incidents or how they were addressed during their conversation. As a result, it is unclear whether the confrontation completely resolved the issue or if there is still ongoing tension between the two individuals.

This confrontation sheds light on the ongoing struggles Gomez has faced following her high-profile relationship with Justin Bieber.

It serves as a reminder of the negative impact social media can have on individuals’ mental health, especially in the context of public scrutiny and fan involvement. Gomez’s decision to address these feelings openly and confront Bieber shows her determination to protect her well-being and stand up against alleged mistreatment.

In conclusion, Selena Gomez recently confronted Hailey Bieber regarding allegations of bullying, which stemmed from Gomez’s emotional response to her past relationship with Justin Bieber. The confrontation occurred after Gomez expressed feeling attacked by individuals associated with Bieber’s fans.

Bieber denied any involvement in the alleged bullying but emphasized her support for women. Gomez reached out to Bieber privately to express her feelings, and although the details of their conversation remain unknown, it is clear that Gomez is committed to advocating for her own mental health and confronting mistreatment she perceives.

The model and reality TV star expressed her concern and frustration over the online criticism targeted at Gomez’s appearance. Jenner used her platform to speak out against body-shaming, highlighting the harmful effects it can have on individuals’ mental health.

Jenner acknowledged that being in the public eye comes with a lot of scrutiny and that celebrities often face constant judgment regarding their bodies. She emphasized that people should be more mindful of the impact their words can have on others, particularly in regards to body image.

Jenner revealed that she has personally witnessed the toll it has taken on her friend Gomez, describing the constant barrage of negative comments as “disgusting.”
