Max Verstappen was once again at his dominant best during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix as he registered an emphatic victory. Thanks to an incredible car, the Dutchman is making quick work of defeating the rest of the grid in each race. Since he does not have to worry much about the performance of the RB20, Verstappen often has a lot of free time on his hands. Speaking to the media after the race, a clip uploaded on X by user Nini shows Verstappen admitting to using his free time to catch up on his sim racing ventures. Despite being up all night for the same, he won the Saudi Arabian GP by over 13 seconds.

As per a report from Planet F1, Verstappen was up till the early hours of Saturday. Racing online, he went to bed at 4 AM. However, that wasn’t enough for the Dutchman. After he woke up, Verstappen revealed he had an hour to spare. Hence, he logged into his Xbox and began sim racing with his friends again.

“It’s a bit of, unwinding. I mean, I don’t have a rig here, I’m driving on my controller, you know. So, it’s just fun. Not having to think about Formula 1 and just be with people that you know – friends. Whenever I can, I do it. I woke up this morning and had an hour to spare, so I just logged in,” explained Verstappen.

However, Verstappen‘s late-night shenanigans were not an irresponsible move. The Dutchman claimed that since he wants to be in sync with the European schedule, he sleeps accordingly.

As for the online gaming part, Verstappen looks at it as a means of relaxing and focusing on things away from F1. However, it doesn’t mean sim racing is a mere hobby for the three-time F1 world champion.

Sim Racing is more than just a game for Max Verstappen

Aside from the increasingly hectic schedule of F1, Max Verstappen often spends a lot of his time on online racing. He has his own sim racing team, ‘Team Redline,’ for which he often competes professionally. He even took part in online series such as ‘Real Racers Never Quit’ in 2023.

Verstappen was a successful participant in the tournament, winning three out of the four races he competed in. Talking about the world of sim racing, Verstappen claimed he does not see it as a game. “I think it’s very professional. It’s hard to explain here, but there’s a lot going on.”

Verstappen firmly believes that there is immense scope for the drivers who compete in sim racing. As per the 26-year-old, these drivers can even become professional racers in the real world.

He continued by saying that he is also trying to work on making this a possibility. The constant evolution of sim racing to try and make things as realistic as possible is also an exciting prospect.

Verstappen is of firm belief that this evolution will pave the way for sim drivers to make it all the way to real-world racing. While he thinks making it to F1 might still be a distant reality, these drivers can still explore other avenues of motorsports.

But the real concern comes for ace starting pitcher Gerrit Cole, who will undergo an MRI on his throwing elbow, Boone also told reporters, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Cole had been having trouble bouncing back between starts, noting he felt as tired after his limited spring appearances as he normally would after a 100-pitch regular season start, according to Hoch.

The Yankees have committed a combined $684 million between the two stars — $324 million for Cole and $360 million for Judge.

The news sent Yankee fans into a tizzy online, with many of them posting borderline suicidal reactions.

Yankee fans should be worried. If either one of these guys gets hurt for an extended period of time, their odds of winning the World Series drop precipitously. If BOTH get hurt… well, you can kiss the ring hopes goodbye.

However, at least one reporter is claiming the MRI is simply a precaution, as SNY’s Andy Martino chimed in to try and quell some of the more hysterical fans by claiming that the “initial feeling is not one of extreme concern.”

This is the reason why several fans and analysts went as far as to say that the sport has become ‘boring.’ However, despite these criticisms, the three-time champion says he is really happy about his performances in the 2023 season.

Moreover, Verstappen also said that he doesn’t pay any attention to the fact that some people find the 2023 season monotonous. Last year, Red Bull scripted history by winning a record 21 of the 22 races. Interestingly, it was Max Verstappen himself who won a record 19 of these races. His run included a record 10 straight victories from the Miami Grand Prix to the Italian GP.

Moreover, while chasing perfection, the Dutchman also registered a handful of other records. Among them, the top ones are the most points and the most podium finishes in a single campaign.

However, it’s interesting to note that the Dutchman was charged $1.3 million because of his domination. Motorsport.com reported that Verstappen must pay this whopping fee to compete in 2024.

As for this year so far, Verstappen has already won two races. Considering the same, the expectation is that Red Bull will also dominate the 2024 season and that the Dutchman may win his fourth consecutive championship.

In his all-conquering RB19, the Dutchman was flawless as he registered 19 Grands Prix wins out of 22 in the season. Despite this record-breaking success, Verstappen doesn’t feel the 2023 car is his favorite Red Bull car. Instead, he revealed that it is his maiden championship-winning car from 2021 – the RB16B.

According to a Reddit post, Verstappen revealed in an interview with L’Equipe how the pre-ground effect era cars are his favorite. About the 2021 Red Bull car, he cited, “The car [RB16B] was great, it was responsive. Today, they’ve become heavy, wide, and long.”

When asked if the 2021 cars were a little on edge, Verstappen refuted by saying how he liked the “sharper” philosophy of those cars. Contrasting those cars with the ground effect 2023 car, the 26-year-old cited, “These 2021 cars, they went faster through the slow corners, they moved better. I was having more fun.”

Still, despite this ranking and comparison, the three-time champion is grateful for all these fabulous cars that Red Bull have designed for him. He thanked his team for being the reason for his glittering success.

Verstappen’s current dominance is a combination of his consistency and Red Bull’s superior car advantage. It is very difficult to attribute full credit to one of these two factors for the current dominance in F1. The Dutchman himself admitted that the car being fast enough is also crucial as the driver’s ability to extract the most from it.

Max Verstappen admits winning in a Haas is not possible

Further in his L’Equipe interview, Max Verstappen admitted that he won’t get a race win while driving a Haas car. He also said even a podium is a very long shot. Verstappen said, “Normally not (he reflects). Probably not [a podium]. But I’d try to do a better job than anyone else, that’s for sure. After that, if the car’s slow, it’s slow.”

The Dutchman loves a challenge and has driven in the midfield for many years before his current dominant reign. During his debut year in 2015, he drove for Toro Rosso, who always found themselves in the lower half of the grid. Still, Verstappen was able to drag the Toro Rosso car to some amazing results, with even a P4 finish at the 2015 US Grand Prix.

So, his claim that he would try to do better than most makes sense. As a result, there is every possibility that he could drag a Haas car into points often if given a chance. For now, even that may not be in Verstappen’s mind as Haas are struggling immensely. In 2023, the American team finished last in the standings.

However, the 2024 season has begun much better than they expected. Despite predicting to be at the back of the grid, Haas have performed exceptionally well and finished on the fringes of points in Bahrain.

Their relentless efforts to improve tire degradation and race pace paid off in Saudi Arabia, as Nico Hulkenberg managed to score a point, finishing P10. So, if Verstappen gets behind the Haas VF-24, he too could spring a surprise result.
