Francis Ngannou apologises to fans and says ‘I let you all down’ after he was knocked out by Anthony Joshua… but former UFC champion vows to come back from ‘bad day at the office’

Francis Ngannou vowed to come back from ‘a bad day at the office’ after he was brutally knocked out by Anthony Joshua.

‘AJ’ floored his opponent in the first round with a right hand to the chin then again early in the second with a right-left hook combination.

The former UFC champion got to his feet but was quickly put back down by a strong right hand, after which the referee put a stop to the contest.

Afterwards he posted on X: ‘Sorry guys I let you all down.

‘Today was a bad day in the office but tomorrow will be another day.

‘Thank you all for the love.’

The 37-year-old, who performed well in losing narrowly on points to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in what had been his only previous fight, started brightly again in Riyadh, holding his own well for much of the first round.

He was put on the canvas by Joshua with about a minute to go in the round, beating the count at nine and making it back to his feet to see out the final 40 seconds.

However, when he was knocked down again in the second round there appeared to be little chance of Ngannou continuing, and after struggling back up he was quickly knocked out by a big right hand to put an end to the contest in Joshua’s favour.

Ngannou required oxygen in the ring as he was attended to by medics in the immediate aftermath, before recovering to leave the ring unaided.

Afterwards Joshua said Ngannou should continue in boxing.

    ‘You’re an inspiration,’ Joshua said.

‘You’ll beat a lot of people. Don’t leave boxing. Don’t leave boxing.

‘If you need anything, let me know, but we’ll speak another time.’

  • Tyson Fury tells wife Paris ‘put back those £5 ice lollies!’ on a trip to ASDA after ‘spending all his money’ on a £180,000 Lamborghini… before he jets off for training for his £100m fight with Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury tells wife Paris ‘put back those £5 ice lollies!’ on a trip to ASDA after ‘spending all his money’ on a £180,000 Lamborghini… before he jets off for training for his £100m fight with Oleksandr Usyk

It’s been a whirlwind week for Tyson Fury but that hasn’t stopped the ‘Gypsy King’ from returning to normal life – which he showcased in a series of social media posts.

Fury had been in Saudi Arabia last week to watch on as British rival Anthony Joshua secured an emphatic knockout win over former UFC star Francis Ngannou.

Shortly after that, the heavyweight star was spotted back on British soil as he splashed out on a lime green Lamborghini Urus – worth up to £180,000.

However, ahead of his scheduled fight with Ukrainian star Oleksandr Usyk in May – where he’ll earn a reported £100million – Fury has returned to normality and offered fans an insight into his preparations on social media.

On Monday, his Instagram story showed himself and wife Paris heading out for a food shop – where the heavyweight refused to purchase some of the higher-end items on offer.

Just a day prior, Fury splashed out on a £180,000 Lamborghini Urus and shared a video online

‘Now it’s time to go on a food shop in Asda with Paris Fury. Asda, Lancaster. The highlight of our evening!’, Fury declared in his first video inside the store.

After showing off a block of Lancashire cheese, Fury then filmed himself and Paris deliberating over which chocolate spread to buy.

Fury said: ‘Decisions, decisions. Do you spend £6.10 on a jar of Nutella or do you spend £1.85 on some chocolate spread?’

Paris then interjected: ‘No, you pay £2.75 for the big one! ‘ as she pointed out to the Asda value range option.

They then continued their shop, as Fury said: ‘There’s Paris getting some ice lollies for the kids’.

‘Ferrero Rocher ones’, Paris said before the heavyweight star quickly intervened.

‘Put them back! They’re a fiver for some ice lollies – I don’t think so! Get them ones that are a quid. Value for money.

‘After spending all the money on the Lambo, Paris, I think we need to save on shopping’.

Fans of the Fury family will recall a similar moment in their Netflix documentary – titled ‘At Home With The Furys’.

During an episode, Paris was seen telling their children that they were not allowed to buy pencils while they were out shopping.

Fury questioned the price of Nutella

He instead opted to buy Asda's own-brand chocolate spread

Fury then took a trip to the gym

Later, Fury and wife Paris headed to Asda

After a trip to the gym for a workout, Fury and wife Paris headed to Asda to do a food shop

Shortly after their trip to Asda, Fury was on the move once again as he shared a picture of a jet with the caption: ‘Business calling’.

Before jetting out for more training, however, Fury’s story also showed some of the more mundane tasks that filled his day.

The first video on his story showcased a car boot filled to the brim with rubbish bags as Fury prepared for a trip to the garbage tip.

In the video, he said: ‘After a good bit of training in the morning and a bit of breakfast, big man’s got to go to the tip and do his duties’.

‘Right, it’s that time of the day again. I’ve got chicken and rice, got a Greek salad and a bottle of water. Healthy eating… cannot wait for the fight!’

Fury then treated fans to an insight into his belt and accolade collection, where he showed off his WBC heavyweight title.

He then set off to the dentist, where he shared a video alongside two dental nurses before declaring: ‘So I’ve had my teeth done by the girls. All done! Clean and filled. What a day’.

Fury’s whirlwind day continued as, straight after, he posted another video where he asked: ‘Any guess where I’m going? T-shirt, shorts, socks and a towel. Any guesses?’

Fury's first story showed off a car boot filled with rubbish

His second story showed his chicken and rice

Fury gave an insight into his trip to the dump and his post-workout meal that he indulged in

The story afterwards showed him turning up to his gym, as he steps up his preparation for his bout with Usyk in two months time.

‘You know what time it is guys! This is where the magic is made. This is where it all happens, right in that ring there’.

Fury opted not to share any training footage on the day, as he perhaps looks to keep his Ukrainian opponent guessing ahead of their clash in May.

The 35-year-old then returned home for tea, where he once again shared a video of his chicken, rice and sweetcorn meal – as he maintained his clean eating habits.

Kanye West’s Vᴜltures albuᴍ ᴡas suddenly REMOVED by Apple Music after the rappeʀ did this TERRIBLE THING to Taylor Swift in a new speech…

Shortly after releasing “Vultures 1,” his collaborative album with Ty Dolla Sign, Kanye West is facing a rocky road in keeping the project on streaming services:

The album was removed from Apple Music and iTunes on Thursday afternoon (although several of its singles remain) amid word that its distributor was working to have it pulled from all streaming services.

But soon after, the album returned to the platforms thanks to Label Engine, who is now reportedly in charge of distribution.

According to FUGA, which was listed as the distribution service in YouTube’s metadata for the album, West initially uploaded the album to DSPs on Saturday through its automated process after the company had previously declined to distribute the record.

Now, as first reported by Billboard, FUGA claims to be working directly with streaming platforms to remove the album from their respective databases.

So far, it has been removed from the iTunes store and Apple Music, and a song that interpolates Donna Summer’s 1977 song “I Feel Love,” apparently without permission, was earlier pulled from Spotify.

“Late last year, FUGA was presented with the opportunity to release Vultures 1. Exercising our judgment in the ordinary course of business, we declined to do so,” FUGA shared in a statement to Variety.

“On Friday, February 9, 2024, a long-standing FUGA client delivered the album ‘Vultures 1’ through the platform’s automated processes, violating our service agreement. Therefore, FUGA is actively working with its DSP partners and the client to remove Vultures 1 from our systems.”

A rep for Apple Music did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment.

Since FUGA made its statement this morning, distribution for “Vultures 1” has reportedly shifted over to Label Engine, which was previously listed as the distributor for two of the album’s pre-release tracks.

Last year, West had been shopping for potential distributors after years of releasing music while signed to Universal Music Group. Now an independent artist, he reportedly was denied distribution services from numerous companies due to his caustic antisemitic remarks.

It’s unclear if that led to the album’s consistent delays, or if it was due to West’s proclivity to meticulously keep working on his music, often after it reaches the market.

Yesterday, fans noticed that one of the tracks, “Good (Don’t Die)” had already been removed from Spotify, though it remains on other streaming services including Apple Music and YouTube.

The song, which interpolates Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love,” came under fire following the album’s release, with the late singer’s husband Bruce Sudano claiming that the estate denied its use.

“@kanyewest asked permission to use Donna Summer’s song I Feel Love, he was denied… he changed the words, had someone re sing it or used AI but it’s I Feel Love… copyright infringement!!!” he wrote on social media.

Sudano isn’t the only one taking issue with West’s use of existing music for his own. Ozzy Osbourne also asserted on Friday that the rapper sampled a Black Sabbath song without his permission.

“@kanyewest asked permission to sample a section of a 1983 live performance of ‘War Pig’ from the US festival without vocals & was refused permission because he is an antisemite and has caused untold heartache to many,” he wrote. “He went ahead and used the sample anyway at his album listening party last night. I want no association with this man!”

Conor McGregor posts congratulatory message for UFC rival Dustin Poirier after the American’s win over Benoit Saint-Denis… before ‘the Diamond’ responds with BRUTAL reminder of their 2021 fight outcome

Conor McGregor shared a surprising congratulatory message for rival Dustin Poirier after his victory at UFC 299.

Poirier returned to the octagon for last Saturday’s thrilling card and secured an emphatic knockout victory over Benoit Saint-Denis in the second-round.

In doing so, the American lightweight got back to winning ways having been defeated by Justin Gaethje in a bout for the BMF title in July last year.

It was his fifth win inside the cage since 2020, with two of those coming against McGregor as they put to bed a thrilling trilogy.

Despite Poirier taking the bragging rights from their fights, McGregor evidently holds no grudges towards ‘The Diamond’, as he congratulated him on the win.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, McGregor wrote: ‘Great fight out of them French boys tonight! Toutes nos félicitations’.

During his post-fight press conference, Poirier was then asked about McGregor’s post, to which he said: ‘He felt that right hook, too’.

In their second bout, which came in January 2021, Poirier land a right-hook that sent McGregor crashing to the canvas before the American delivered some heavy blows to finish the fight.

Similarly, it was the right-hook that won him the fight with Saint-Denis in the second-round of their bout.

The American initially landed a left-hand which staggered his opponent before attempting to perform a standing guillotine choke on the Frenchman.

Once Saint-Denis broke out of that, Poirier went back to searching for the knockout and found it just moments later after his right-hook landed flush.

Elsewhere on the night, Sean ‘Suga’ O’Malley successfully defended his bantamweight title in the  main event after outclassing rival Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.

O’Malley had been handed his first and only defeat in MMA by Chito back in 2020, but a repeat never looked likely as he produced a dominant display at the Kaseya Centre.

The American brutally caught his challenger with a knee in the second round, with Chito somehow withstanding the blow to remain in the contest.

Chito produced his best shot of the night in the final seconds of the fifth round, but it proved too late with O’Malley having delivered a complete performance across the 25 minute contest.

Anthony Joshua’s former opponent calls out Daniel Dubois for a fight on the Ring of Fire undercard in Saudi Arabia

Anthony Joshua‘s former opponent Jermaine Franklin has called out Daniel Dubois on social media – stating he wants to fight DDD on the Ring of Fire undercard on May 18.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk were due to go head-to-head in Saudi Arabia last month for the first undisputed title fight in the heavyweight division since 1999, but Fury pulled out after suffering a cut above his right eye in training.

The Gypsy King star sustained the injury while sparring with Agron Smakici and had to have stiches – forcing his historic bout with Usyk to be pushed back until Saturday May 18.

There are several fights on the Ring of Fire undercard yet to be confirmed and Franklin is hoping he can secure a bout with Dubois – who beat Jarrell Miller on the Day of Reckoning undercard on December 23 in Saudi Arabia.

Franklin – who has shared the ring with the likes of Joshua and Dillian Whyte – took to social media to call Dubois out, posting a picture of himself and DDD saying: ‘Let’s get it on’.

Joshua proved to be too much for Franklin – beating him via unanimous decision at the O2 Arena with three judges scoring it 118-111 for Joshua and the other 117-111 in Franklin’s favour

This would not be the first time Franklin has taken part in a high-profile bout. He fought against Whyte at Wembley Arena in November 2022 after the Body Snatcher was beaten by Fury.

Unfortunately for Franklin, he lost the fight Whyte. Michael Alexander scored their bout level at 115-115 while Juergen Landos and Grzegorz Molenda scored the fight 116-112 in favour of British heavyweight.

Although Franklin did not beat Whyte, the bout at Wembley Arena changed the trajectory of his career as he has managed to line up a fight with Great Britain’s golden boy, Joshua.

Speaking ahead of the fight with AJ, Franklin told Sportsmail: ‘It’s most definitely life changing. It’s a life changing experience and it’s a great opportunity. Hopefully it puts me up there with the top boxers. I already feel like I am up there but I have to show the world that I am up there.’

Franklin dropped 23lbs from his points defeat to Whyte in November 2022 and looked visibly learner in the torso and face ahead of his clash with AJ – tipping the scales at just over 234lbs.

Franklin’s weight loss provided a clear indication of his game plan heading into the bout. The American was looking to match Joshua’s output – with the British heavyweight being forced to work 40 per cent harder in his second fight to Oleksandr Usyk than any of his previous fights.

However, Joshua proved to be too much for Franklin – beating him via unanimous decision at the O2 Arena in London with three judges scoring it 118-111 for Joshua and the other 117-111 in Franklin’s favour.

Nevertheless, Franklin is eager to return to winning ways against Dubois – stating he wants to face DDD on the Ring of Fire undercard on May 18.

Growing partnership between streaming and black-market bookmakers ‘threatens sport integrity’… after 500,000 viewers watched Anthony Joshua fight with Francis Ngannou illegally

Illegal streaming companies are working with black-market bookmakers to attract sports fans by offering free bets and ad-free viewing subscriptions to customers, with over 500,000 viewers watching last weekend’s Anthony Joshua/Francis Ngannou fight illegally.

A Mail Sport investigation on Tuesday revealed details of an explosion in black-market betting activity in this country, which appears closely linked to the more established threat of piracy and illegal streaming.

Analysis of online traffic on Joshua v Ngannou and the Saudia Arabia grand prix conducted by internet analysts Yield Sec shows the extent of the problem, which will be deeply worrying for legitimate sports rights holders and licensed bookmakers. Yield Sec’s special investigation last weekend has uncovered a number of striking insights, including:

547,924 viewers across the world watched Joshua’s second-round knockout of Ngannou without paying for it, with 98,626 of the illegal streams traced to the UK, 18 per cent of the total.

The lost value of the pirated content on that single six-minute bout in the UK alone was £1.92million based on almost 100,000 people refusing to pay the £20 pay-per-fee being charged by rights holders Sky Sports and DAZN.

The loss to UK rights holders alone was £1.92million based on the £20 pay-per-fee charged

Illegal streams were found in over 1000 different locations, the vast majority of which featured adverts for unlicensed betting companies.

Just under 20,000 online gambling operators offered betting markets on the Saudi grand prix into jurisdictions which they had no local licensing for, with almost 20 per cent of the unlicensed betting offers coming with a ‘free’ viewing of the race courtesy of illegal streaming partners.

Illegal betting operators providing markets on both Joshua/Ngannou and the grand prix offered ad-free illegal streaming ‘subscriptions’ as loyalty incentives in return for placing certain types of bet, indicating a clear strategy of cross promotion.

Yield Sec chief executive officer Ismail Vali told Mail Sport that their findings clearly demonstrate the growing partnership between illegal streaming and betting companies, which he believes present a threat to the integrity of sport and its future revenues.

‘This convergence of illegal betting and streaming further underscores a significant threat to the integrity of sports,’ Vali said. ‘It shows the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to monitoring and enforcement, for the protection of consumers, revenue and our cultural events.

‘Illegal streaming providers capitalise on the restrictions faced by legal operators, offering viewers an array of choice that legal platforms cannot match. By bundling their offerings with ad-supported content, often linked to illegal gambling, illegal streamers not only siphon revenue from the legitimate industry, but also entrench their position by catering to a global audience seeking unrestricted access to content.

‘This sophisticated exploitation of market limitations highlights the urgent need for coordinated international efforts to address the root causes of illegal streaming and gambling.’

Anthony Joshua knocked Francis Ngannou down for the first time in his career on Friday night and finished the former UFC heavyweight champion off in the second round on their highly-anticipated fight in Saudi Arabia.

Many fans had thought the fight was going to be too close to call following Ngannou’s debut in the sport – having gone the distance with world champion Tyson Fury.

However, the Brit dominated the main event, flooring his opponent in the first and second round before delivering a savage KO that left the MMA star requiring oxygen. It is now believed Joshua will take on the winner of Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk following the undisputed title fight on May 18 and the rematch which has been inserted into their contracts.

When asked who he would back to come out on top if Joshua and Fury ever crossed paths following his defeat on Friday night, Ngannou said: ‘I don’t know, I would give it to AJ for right now.’

So, with the above in mind, Mail Sport have rounded up the rest of AJ and Fury’s shared opponents – Kevin Johnson, Dillian Whyte, Otto Wallin and Wladimir Klitschko – to see who they would back in the Battle of Britain clash.

    KEVIN JOHNSON

Kevin Johnson has taken on the likes of Kubrat Pulev, Dereck Chisora, Manuel Charr, Christian Hammer and Andy Ruiz throughout his career.

But, the two main names that standout on Johnson’s resume are Joshua and Fury, losing to AJ in 2015 and the Gypsy King in 2012.

When asked to compare the pair and give his prediction regarding a potential showdown between them, Johnson told iFL TV, Johnson said: ‘Tyson Fury has one thing that many people can’t beat.

‘It’s not skill, Anthony Joshua is definitely the more skilful fighter, but Tyson Fury is so long and in a safety zone with that reach and movement, he made Wladimir Klitschko look like an amateur.

‘He didn’t do that because he has more skill, everybody knows that Klitschko would knock him out, but you’ve got to get past that reach. It’s like giving somebody a sniper rifle and asking somebody 20 yards away to run up on him.’

    DILLIAN WHYTE

Dillian Whyte has been cleared to return to the ring this weekend after an ‘adverse analytical finding’ was found in his pre-fight drugs test ahead of his rematch with Joshua last August.

It remains to be seen if Whyte will get the rematch with AJ in the future – having lost to Joshua in their only professional fight despite beating him in the amateurs.

The Body Snatcher will be eager to face AJ for a second time in the pro ranks – having been knocked out in emphatic fashion with a brutal right uppercut in the seventh of their bout.

Whyte also fought Fury in April 2022 at Wembley. He was looking to dethrone the Gypsy King and take his WBC belt. However, he failed to trouble Fury – who won round after round before stopping him in the sixth.

When discussing who would win between AJ and Fury in the past, Whyte said: ‘This is heavyweight boxing, man. Who would’ve said Hasim Rahman or Oliver McCall would have knocked out Lennox Lewis? It’s heavyweight boxing.

‘Wladimir Klitschko lost to Ross Puritty, no-one even knows that guy. There’s a case for both guys winning this fight, I think. Both guys showed a lot of versatility in their fights.

‘[Joshua’s] two fights with Ruiz and [Fury’s] two fights with Wilder – they’re the same guys but they’re different styles and different ways of getting the victory.

‘Joshua had a loss against [Andy] Ruiz, Fury had a draw against [Deontay] Wilder. Then Fury came off the back foot, was aggressive and knocked Wilder out. And Joshua came off the front foot, got on the back foot and got a points decision against Andy Ruiz.

‘You see what I’m saying? It’s hard, only true fans of each guy will say, ‘This guy’s gonna win.’ It’s very hard, I don’t think no boxing purist would say, ‘This guys gonna win because of this.’

    WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO

Fury pulled off one of the great boxing upsets by outpointing Wladimir Klitschko to become heavyweight champion of the world in November 2015.

Not many gave the Gypsy King much of a chance of toppling the Ukrainian, but Fury got inside Klitschko’s head with his pre-fight antics and then bewildered him between the ropes.

Seventeen months later, Klitschko faced Joshua in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley. It was tough contest, with both men hitting the canvas during the fight. However, it was AJ who emerged victorious.

Joshua found a second wind heading into the final two rounds of the fight and delivered the decisive blow in the 11th round to knock Klitschko down twice and force the referee to jump in.

But, who is Klitschko backing when it comes to AJ vs Fury?

‘Hands down Joshua’, Klitschko told Sky Sports. He is getting to be the complete fighter. Technically, size-wise, weight-wise, power-wise. And he is a good learner. The other guy [Fury], like a fart in the wind it is there and it is gone.

‘In the history of boxing there are a lot of examples of this kind of guy. They can be successful for a time but are not disciplined enough to continue to be successful.

‘I wish Tyson well but I think there is a lack of discipline there, and discipline is more important than motivation. Drawing from my experience I would say it is going to be very difficult for Tyson because there’s that lack of discipline.’

    OTTO WALLIN

Otto Wallin took on Fury in September 2019. He was supposed to be a stop-gap for the Gypsy King as he awaited a rematch with Deontay Wilder. However, it ended up being a hairy moment for the Gypsy King.

Wallin landed cleanly on Fury, opening up a giant gash just above his right eye that later required 47 stitches. However, Fury battled on and grounded out a hard-earned points decision.

Meanwhile, AJ dismantled Wallin on the December 23, Day of Reckoning card in Saudi Arabia last year. Joshua went straight on to the front foot and systematically beat Wallin up until his corner threw in the towel after five rounds.

Speaking to Boxing News about the potential fight between AJ and Fury, Wallin said: ‘Well, I would say that this fight with Joshua was a lot tougher than the fight I had with Fury.

Tyson Fury reveals who he’d want to have his back in a street fight

‘It’s hard to say [what would happen in a fight between Fury and Joshua]. I think that Fury’s a very good fighter. Can probably pick it up from what he was doing in his last fight. It’s a decent fight. We’ll see what happens with Joshua now.

‘He might be on to something really good with Ben Davison, and Ben obviously knows Tyson. I don’t know. There’s a lot of variables. I always said that Fury would win that fight, but now just being in with Joshua, I feel a little bit different. It’s hard to go against Tyson I think. But, I don’t know, it’s changed my mind a bit after this fight.’
