Meghan Markle revealed that online hatred toward her came to a head at a vulnerable time.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, said at the SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas that she experienced the worst abuse on social media when she was expecting son Prince Archie, 4, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 2, and when her children were infants.

In a question to Meghan during the “Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen” discussion, the conference’s Opening Day Keynote Panel, moderator Errin Haines asked, “Social media really has become the place for women and girls to, be scrutinized, objectified, bullied, and unfortunately I know this is something you are all too familiar with. How have you been able to manage the seemingly endless toxicity that comes at you?”

The Duchess of Sussex took a moment to gather her thoughts and began, “Yes, social media is an environment that I think has a lot of that. You know I think, it’s really interesting as I can reflect on it, I keep my distance from it right now just for my own well-being, but the bulk of the bullying and abuse that I was experiencing on social media and online was when I was pregnant with Archie and Lili, and with a newborn with each of them.”

“You just think about that, and to really wrap your head around why people would be so hateful. It’s not catty, it’s cruel. And why you would do that, certainly, when you’re pregnant, with a newborn, we all know as moms, it’s such a tender and sacred time,” she said.

“I think you know, you could either succumb to it, nearly succumb to how painful that it is, and maybe in some regards, because I was pregnant, that mammalian instinct just kicked in, you do everything you can to protect your child, and as a result, protect yourself too,” she continued.

Meghan said there’s a lot of work to be done to keep people safe online, but she finds it “disturbing” how “much of the hate is women completely spewing it to other women.”

“I cannot make sense of that, because I understand that there are certain platforms, today is a really good example, this is being streamed on one of those platforms, and it’s also fantastic because people are going to have access to hear all of this brilliance and all of this insight, and at the same time, it’s a platform that has quite a bit of hate and rhetoric and incentives people to create pages where they can churn out very, very inciting comments and conspiracy theories that can have a tremendously negative effect on someone’s mental health, on their physical safety,” she added.

Meghan’s pregnancy with Prince Archie came during her time living in the U.K. with her husband Prince Harry, before they stepped back from their royal roles and relocated to her home state of California in 2020, where Princess Lilibet was born in 2021.

Elsewhere in the wide-ranging conversation with Katie Couric, Brooke Shields and sociologist, pop culture expert and DEI consultant Nancy Wang Yuen on International Women’s Day, the Duchess of Sussex touched on how the illusions that social media perpetuates can be especially harmful to new moms.

“As moms, and as I was saying earlier when you’re a new mom, it’s a really vulnerable time. The effect that social media can have on new mothers, even just the lack of sleep because they spend all this time scrolling, but it can also be really dizzying for them to see this portrayal of motherhood that looks so perfect when we all know it’s not perfect,” Meghan said. “We all know that it’s messy. I’m fortunate in that, among the privileges I have in my life, I have an incredible partner,” she said, gesturing to Prince Harry, who sat front row at her panel event.

“My husband is such a hands-on dad and such a supporter of me and my family. That I don’t take for granted,” she continued, shouting out her husband of five years. “That is a real blessing. But a lot of people don’t have that same level of support. So I think for us, it’s about putting safeguards in so women and moms especially can not feel like they’re even more vulnerable when they go online.”

The TV drama follows the release of the Netflix drama ‘Scoop’ which proved a runaway success for the streaming giant.

A Very Royal Scandal will see Michael Sheen play Prince Andrew, Ruth Wilson as Emily Maitlis and Joanna Scanlan as Amanda Thirsk. Actress Sofia Oxenham has been lined up to play Princess Beatrice.

The drama focuses on the Duke of York’s excruciating sitdown interview in 2019, where he was quizzed by Maitlis about his friendship with late billionaire convicted paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein.

‘Prince Andrew & the Epstein Scandal’ was aired on Newsnight on the BBC in November 2019, and also questioned the Prince’s relationship with Virginia Roberts Giuffre who alleged he sexually assaulted her.

The Duke consistently and vehemently denies the allegations. He reached an out-of-court settlement with Virginia, who had brought a civil case against the Prince for sexual assault. The settlement was not an admission of guilt and Andrew accepted no liability.

The appearance comes amid reports that King Charles recently opted against renewing a 10-man security team stationed at Prince Andrew’s residence, Royal Lodge, due to escalating costs prompting fresh speculation that Andrew may soon be forced to vacate the property.

Victoria Beckham’s daughter Harper has taken social media by storm with her showing love for her mum’s perfume range.

The 12-year-old, youngest child of Victoria and David Beckham, took to TikTok to show off her mum’s products in a sweet video on

which Harper pouted up a storm while holding up each fragrance for the camera.

Harper gave viewers an unboxing video as she revealed the perfumes in a three-tester box.

The fragrances are from former Spice Girl Victoria’s beauty brand, with them being launched last October.

The fragrances shown off by Harper are Portofino ’97, Suite 302 and San Ysidro Drive. The three two millimetre sprays are available in a set for £30.

The perfumes are inspired by personal memories Victoria has of husband David.

In a statement accompanying the release of the perfume, the scents are described: “The euphoric Portofino ’97 evokes Victoria’s first romantic getaway with her husband, the opulent Suite 302 conjures their whirlwind trips to Paris, and the revitalizing San Ysidro Drive embodies the family’s time in California.”

Alongside a track by Tommy Richman called Million Dollar Baby, Harper impressed her fashion designer mother, who reposted the video on her Instagram Story, alongside a thanks to her daughter: “Kisses #HarperSeven xxx”.

This comes after Harper was seen with dad David when she joined him to watch Inter Miami play St. Louis in Fort Lauderdale. Becks is the co-owner of the MLS side, which boasts legendary footballer Lionel Messi among its numbers.

So, it’s only natural that the next move they’re eyeing up is a royal one – that could come with fancy new titles.

The couple have a long history with the royal family – with David and Victoria attending the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011,

and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 – but it’s their alleged ‘feud’ with the Sussexes that’s made headlines over the years.

It’s been reported that one of the reasons behind the rift was that Harry claimed Victoria leaked stories to the press, which left her husband David “furious”.

Now, David has been made an ambassador of The King’s Foundation – formerly The Prince’s Foundation,

a charity founded by Charles in 1990 – which could be their biggest move yet, and Victoria will be pleased, according to a source.

“It’s no secret that Victoria and David’s documentary was more popular than Meghan and Harry’s. This helped them, especially Victoria, win over a lot of people,” the source said. “Now that David is ‘in’ with King Charles – plus the fact they are on good terms with Kate and William – it puts all the rumours about her allegedly leaking stories to the press behind her. It focuses on her and David’s relationship with the royal family in a positive way.

“She even sees this as his way to get a knighthood and become Sir David Beckham, while Victoria would become Lady Beckham.”

David has been working closely with King Charles to support educational programmes that give young people access to nature. He even visited the monarch at his Highgrove home in Gloucestershire. Opening up about his new appointment, the 49-year-old said, “It was inspiring to hear from the King about the work of His Majesty’s foundation during my recent visit to Highgrove – and compare beekeeping tips!”

This newest instalment in the Beckham-Sussex drama comes after David and Victoria’s four-part series, titled Beckham, premiered on Netflix in October 2023, a year after Meghan and Harry’s documentary on the same streaming giant.

The royals had viewers tuning in for roughly 72.9million hours in 2023, whereas the Beckhams clocked up a whopping 208.5million. Although Harry, 39, and Meghan’s programme gained huge attention when it first aired in 2022, it struggled to maintain excitement. In comparison, fans praised David’s honesty and viewers loved seeing a softer side of Victoria, including the couple dancing in the kitchen to Islands In The Stream. One viewer on X even said it, “made them believe in love again”.

According to a source, Victoria was “happy” with the reaction from fans. The source said, “Victoria can’t help but feel happy that their Netflix documentary is popular. It shows they have a lot of public support globally,” they said. “She won over a lot of people in their series, whereas she knows Meghan and Harry’s did the opposite. It sort of alienated them.”

Cracks first started appearing in the two couples’ friendship in spring 2022. It was reported that David invited William and Kate to his son Brooklyn’s wedding, but not Harry and Meghan. Around the same time, it was even thought that Meghan, 42, stopped wearing Victoria’s designs while Kate chose to wear more of them.

But things reached boiling point a few years later when the royal couple allegedly had a suspicion that the Beckhams leaked stories about Meghan to the press – a claim that reportedly left David “absolutely furious”.

According to a source, Victoria never truly got over the situation. “Everyone was close at one point and Victoria offered support to Meghan when she moved to the UK. But when the Sussexes suggested stories had been leaked, Victoria was upset that somebody would think she would do that,” the source said.

“She found it insulting as she really took Meghan under her wing and gave her advice. She did that as she knows what it’s like to be under such scrutiny. Victoria is very loyal and she felt she didn’t get the same in return.” But, as David and Victoria form relationships with the King, Meghan – 6,000 miles away in LA – isn’t letting it faze her and is focusing on other things.

“Meghan isn’t particularly bothered by this,” the source said. “They were all close when the Sussexes lived in London but they just drifted apart. She is also busy with exciting projects coming up as well as looking after Archie and Lilibet.”

Tatler Asia has partnered with David Beckham, president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF,

and Inter Miami CF to bring a star-studded football line-up to Asia’s World City for a special exhibition XFEST match on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

Not only will this game be a part of his team’s first-ever global tour, but it is also a part of our inaugural Tatler XFEST.

The team, which will be headed by eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi and include legendary players such as Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets,
