Liam Payne’s body will be flown back to the UK in the next 36 hours, according to media in Argentina, where the former One Direction singer died last month.

The Sun newspaper reports that Payne’s funeral will take place in the UK this week, at St Paul’s Cathedral in Wolverhampton, the city where he grew up.

The singer, aged 31, died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16.

Payne’s father Geoff travelled to the Argentine capital a couple of days after the tragedy; he attended the city morgue and visited the hotel, where he stopped to look at flowers and tributes outside, and also spoke to fans.

The Sun reports that the investigation into Payne’s death took two weeks. Prosecutors said in a statement they believe he was “in a state of semi or total unconsciousness” during a substance-induced episode when he fell.

Payne rose to fame as part of One Direction, the pop group formed by Simon Cowell on The X-Factor UK Season 7 in 2010 that also featured Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. The group released five studio albums from 2011-15, all of which went platinum in the U.S. and hit No. 1 or No. 2 stateside and in the and UK and were Top 10 around the world.

The group scored four No. 1 singles in Great Britain: debut “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Little Things,” “One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)” — whose video Payne directed — and “Drag Me Down.” Five others reached No. 2 in the country as One Direction became one of the top-selling boy bands ever.

Tragically, the musician was in talks for a 2025 tour before his death.

The star was reportedly in negotiations for a series of live dates next year but friends were concerned he would not be able to handle time on the road.

A source told The Mirror: ‘When it emerged that Liam had been talking to new people about a series of dates, there was a great deal of unease among his friends that this was a bad idea.

‘Liam had split from his management about six months ago, and it would not have been something they would have recommended at the current time.’

Liam previously opened up about his second solo album at a fan event and revealed all the songs told a story from his life.

He said: ‘This time, the scariest part is that every one of these songs is a story from my life. And they’re really close to me.

‘I hope people feel that through every song, that I actually felt whatever it is you’re feeling right now listening to this.’

He added: ‘We’ve rewritten a lot of these songs based off the idea of where we’re going with this and also how I’m feeling as a person.

‘I used to show up to sing a song, then go. Absolutely not this time. We’re going to have fun with this.’

It’s not just Meghan! Duchess Googles up-and-coming designers to boost their profile – but royals including Kate Middleton, Zara Tindall, and Prince William have helped British brands soar too

When the Duchess of Sussex claimed that she spends her time Googling small and up-and-coming designers to put them in the global spotlight and boost sales, she raised eyebrows amongst royal watchers.

While she undoubtedly can be credited with putting the British brand Strathberry on the map, she often chose to wear high-end – and expensive – designer labels such as Givenchy, Dior and Oscar de la Renta on official engagements.

And, certainly, she is not the only member of the Royal Family to propel British brands to success: many labels attribute their sales boosts to the royal seal of approval.

Newly-wed Kate Middleton wore the £175 Shola dress from Reiss for a meeting with Barack and Michelle Obama at Buckingham Palace after returning from her honeymoon in 2011

Since David Reiss set up his eponymous menswear company in 1971, moving into womenswear at the turn of the century, he has gone from strength to strength.

But it was when Kate began wearing the fashion label that sales soared.

She chose their £159 Nanette dress for her engagement photograph, taken by Mario Testino on November 25, 2010, and the dress sold out immediately.

Then, she wore their £175 Shola dress for a meeting with Barack and Michelle Obama, at Buckingham Palace, on May 24, 2011, and the company was made.

‘I have been in the business for 40 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this reaction, and not just in the UK, but overseas,’ Mr Reiss said.

‘You can’t put a monetary value on this kind of brand awareness and excitement.

‘As a brand we’ve always been understated – maybe even too discreet about who we are.

‘This has given us an incredible platform without straying from who we are as a brand.’

Kate has even recommended the label to her husband, who owns their £285 Parade green velvet blazer.

He wore it for the Earthshot Prize in London on October 17, 2021, and in Singapore, on November 7, 2023.

But Reiss, who is married with three children, has not let success turn his head: his only extravagance – apart from his Hampstead home – is a Bentley.

Princess Diana was the first member of the Royal Family to discover quirky bag designer Anya Hindmarch, who set up her eponymous company in 1987 at the age of 19.

She employed Anya, who was created a Dame in the King’s 2024 birthday honours list, to make satin clutch bags she could hold to her chest when she was stepping out of cars.

Anya embroidered the letter D inside the bags. Two decades later, her daughter-in-law Kate discovered the label, which became renowned for its limited-edition tote inscribed ‘I’m Not a Plastic Bag’.

She owns a £350 fan clutch bag, which she has carried three times, on her 2011 Canadian tour, at Wimbledon in 2014, and on her 2022 tour of the Caribbean.

    STRATHBERRY

    Turnover: £17million

Royal fans: The Duchess of Sussex; The Princess of Wales

Strathberry’s £17million turnover can certainly be credited to Meghan, who carried their £495 Tricolour Midi Tote on her debut walkabout with Prince Harry in Nottingham December 2017.

The bag sold out within 24 hours and phones rang off the hook, changing the lives of husband-and-wife team Guy and Leeanne Hundleby overnight and catapulting the fledgling firm into the big league.

But the Kate effect was equally potent.

When she carried out a visit to the closing ceremony of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2021, the £295 Multrees Chain Wallet she was carrying sold out within hours.

‘Any carry from royals would generate an interest in the brand and a surge in traffic to the site and potential boost to sales,’ Mrs Hundleby said diplomatically.

    Royal fans: Queen Camilla

Camilla, 77, has made no secret of the stress of royal walkabouts.

Her collection includes the £159 Carmen court shoes and the £159 Ingrid court shoes, which she buys in classic colours.

Camilla first wore a pair of Sole Bliss shoes – the Ingrid Camel leather block heels – at the Royal Cornwall Show in June 2018 and has since bought more than a dozen pairs, creating a ripple Camilla Effect.

‘I was relaxing after a day’s work at my factory in Italy when I first saw a photo online of the Duchess wearing my shoes,’ said founder Lisa Kay, who lives in north London with husband Roger.

Royal family fail to declare official gifts for past four years – despite past scandals including cash-for-honours and Meghan’s £500,000 diamond earrings

The royal family has been criticised for failing to declare official gifts which have been handed over for the past four years.

Buckingham Palace says records are still being updated and would be provided in future – but had been hampered by the change of reign, with Charles becoming King following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in October 2022.

Anti-monarchy campaigners say they should be held to similar standards as MPs who must declare ‘freebies’ – such as the Taylor Swift concert tickets and clothing recently revealed to have been donated to Sir Keir Starmer and Labour ministers.

The new concerns raised about an apparent lack of transparency on gifts to royal family members follow previous ‘cash-for-honours’ allegations.

And there was uncertainty over £500,000 ear-rings worn by the Duchess of Sussex at an event in Fiji six years ago – later revealed to have been given to her by Saudi Arabia‘s crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry. the Duke of Sussex, quit frontline royal duties in 2020 and moved to the US in a bitter split from the royal family.

There is no public register of gifts and hospitality received by members of the royal family, who are said to act on private secretaries’ advice on what to declare.

Guidelines were drawn up in 1995 and later updated, with the Palace announcing it would publish annual gift lists.

There was criticism after the then-Duchess of Cornwall, now Queen Camilla, who received lavish jewellery in 2006 from the Saudi royal family and which she wore during an official visit to the US in 2007.

And King Charles, when Prince of Wales, was said to have received £2.6million in bags from a Qatari politician for the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund.

The most recent annual list of official gifts given to all working members of the royal family was published back in April 2020, the Observer has reported.

No list of wedding gifts for the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, was published when they wed in 2011.

And only a few official presents given to the late Queen Elizabeth for her platinum jubilee in 2022 were publicly revealed – while it remains unclear whether any were received by Charles for his coronation last year, the newspaper added.

This was in contrast to how 2,500 items went on display to the public after being gifted to Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen, when she wed Philip Mountbatten in 1947 and a lengthy list was published.

Graham Smith, chief executive of campaign group Republic which wants to replace the monarchy with an elected head of state, said: ‘It is vital that the public knows about any possible conflicts of interest or attempts to curry favour with royals, as they have direct access to the highest levels of government.

‘Charles and senior royals have access to government papers, can have secretive meetings with ministers and the prime minister and they have leverage to pressure government to do favours for them and their friends.

‘The royals have form when it comes to blurring the lines between what’s theirs to keep and what’s an official gift, so full disclosure is needed on what’s been received and where those gifts are now.

‘If we demand high standards from politicians, we must demand those same standards from the royals.’

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We will publish the details when the records are up to date following the transition of reign.’

Representatives of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been approached for comment.

There are strict guidelines around accepting gifts as a member of the Royal Household.

The official policy, in place since 2003, makes clear that royals should think carefully about the reason for the gift and not accept it if it could be seen to put them under obligation to the donor, or if the donor expects something in return.

Members of the family can only receive personal gifts, which they can keep, if they meet strict conditions.

They must be given by people known privately to the member of the Royal Household and not in connection with any public duty – or they must be worth less than £150 and come from bodies or individuals with whom the member of the Royal Household has an established relationship.

Otherwise they are classed as ‘official’ gifts, which are not the personal property of individual royals.

The Saudi royal family has regularly given jewellery to their British counterparts.

Royal jewellery expert Lauren Kiehna has previously told how Princess Diana received a suite of diamond and sapphire jewels from Crown Prince Fahd as a wedding present in 1981.

Queen Camilla received three suites of jewellery during her official visit to Saudi Arabia in May 2006.

Meanwhile, it was revealed last month that a society fixer embroiled in a royal ‘cash for honours’ scandal had been disqualified by the charity watchdog following an investigation into donations to the King’s Foundation.

Michael Wynne-Parker was deemed unfit to serve as a charity trustee and disqualified from holding a senior position or trustee role in any charity for 12 years.

The move came after The Mail on Sunday revealed that the 78-year-old had told wealthy donors he could secure dinner with King Charles and an overnight stay at Dumfries House in return for six-figure sums.

Mr Wynne-Parker was an advisor to Saudi billionaire Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz and a trustee of his charity the Mahfouz Foundation, which has been under investigation since 2021.

The Charity Commission found that almost £200,000 in donations meant for the King’s Foundation were transferred to Mr Wynne-Parker’s private company’s bank account.

The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation in 2022 following claims that the King’s right-hand man Michael Fawcett had fixed an honour for Dr Bin Mahfouz. Dr Mahfouz had previously denied any wrongdoing in 2021.

Mr Fawcett was accused of helping to secure the Saudi tycoon a CBE that was handed over by Charles in a private ceremony in 2016.

Mr Fawcett resigned as chief executive of the-then Prince’s Foundation in the wake of the allegations in 2021.

It was then announced two years later in 2023 that detectives would be taking no further action.

It also emerged in June 2022 that former Qatari prime minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani donated £2.5million to the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF).

Three donations of nearly £900,000 a time – in 500 euro notes – were stuffed in carrier bags and a holdall.

The donations from the sheikh, who was prime minister of Qatar from 2007 to 2013, were said to have been personally accepted by Prince Charles.

On one occasion around £900,000 was said to have been handed over in carrier bags from luxury shop Fortnum and Mason.

Another time, the sheikh was reported to have been in a private meeting with the prince at Clarence House, in 2015, when he gave him £850,000 in a holdall.

A Clarence House spokesperson said at the time: ‘Charitable donations from Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim were passed immediately to one of the prince’s charities, who carried out the appropriate governance and have assured us all the correct processes were followed.’

Former Mayfair home of Princess Diana’s stepmother, Raine Spencer, sold to Indian business tycoon for £8.5million

The former Mayfair residence of Countess Raine Spencer has been bought by an Indian business tycoon for £8.5 million.

While the countess§ achieved a number of accomplishments during her 87-years – including becoming a Westminster City Councillor in 1955 – she is best known to many people as being the step-mother of Diana, Princess of Wales, which she became in 1977, tying the knot with the then-15-year-old’s father, Earl John Spencer.

Although the two women are said to have eventually enjoyed a very close bond, speaking daily as trusted confidantes, when her father initially married his second wife, Diana did not like her, famously branding her ‘Acid Raine’. Their relationship was said to be fraught for many years, until it thawed during the last few years of the royal’s life.

Before her marriage to Earl John Spencer, Raine was wed to the Hon. Gerald Legge, the heir to the Dartmouth Earldom, with the couple becoming husband and wife in 1948. At that time, they used the two bedroom apartment at 47 Grosvenor Square as their London pied-a-terre, with the with interiors done by then up-and-coming designer David Hicks.

The property at 47 Grosvenor Square, which boasts 2,145 sqft (199.24 sqm) of living space, is said to need ‘substantial refurbishment and modernisation’ in order to ‘become a magnificent apartment overlooking London’s No.1 garden square’, by the estate agent Wetherell, which says it sold the 5th floor home as a ‘shell and core’ unit.

After this work is carried out, says the agent, the 5th floor apartment will have ‘two bedroom suites, both with dressing areas and luxurious ensuite bathrooms, and a triple reception room, spanning the entire width of the apartment, with four tall sash windows offering views over [the square]’.

In addition, it will feature ‘a spacious family kitchen/breakfast room and a separate pantry/utility room’.

However, this type of property in one of the country’s most prestigious locations comes at a significant cost. In addition to the £8.5million for the pad itself, the agent has calculated that the refurbishment and refurnishment could cost an additional £1.5million. After this, Wetherell speculated, the grand apartment may be valued at up to £10.5million.

Anyone viewing the photographs of the stunning home is likely to be shocked that to learn that such costly work is needed, However, as the agent noted, it is selling it as an empty shell.

In order to ‘give buyers an understanding of how the interiors could be transformed into a magnificent new residence’, Wetherell commissioned luxury design studio Casa e Progetti to create an artworked floorplan and portfolio of CGI interior images to ‘show buyers how the apartment could look once refurbished’.

According to Wetherell, Casa e Progetti used CGI technology incorporating the signature techniques of Raine’s favourite interior designer David Hicks as inspiration to create the interior concept pictures.

Not only was the Grosvenor Square residence styled by David Hicks, when the couple moved to a grand Mayfair family house on Hill Street in October 1962, the interiors were once more created and dressed by the designer.

But before that, Raine became a Westminster City Councillor in 1955, and she used the 47 Grosvenor Square apartment as her office and political base.

Raine is said to have ‘adored entertaining and illustrious guests at their dinner parties included Viscount Furness, Lady Pamela Mountbatten, Mrs Reginald Vanderbilt and the Marchioness of Douro’.

The daughter of romantic novelist Dame Barbara Cartland, Raine wed three times, first to the Hon. Gerald Legge, who she divorced in 1976, then to Earl Spencer, who died in 1992, and finally to Count Jean-Francois Pineton de Chambrun. The couple tied the knot in 1993, divorcing just two years later, in 1995.

She became a countess in October 1962, when her then-husband Gerald succeeded to the Dartmouth Earldom, and they moved their main London pad to the Hill Street house.

According to Wetherell, the sale of Raine’s previous home in Grosvenor Square is the ‘latest in a trio of home sales in Mayfair the agency has done with Indian buyers’. The estate agents note that ‘ultra-high-net-worth Indian buyers have been the most active overseas purchasers in Mayfair’s property market this year, especially for homes priced above £15 million’.

They account for 25 per cent of all international buyers in Mayfair, say the organisation, noting that ‘there are over 656,270 Indians living in London and some 3,000 Indian families own or annually rent holidays homes in Mayfair’.

Wetherell adds that the Indian buyer influence in the London property market is projected to grow, and that ‘over the next five years there will be a 50 per cent rise in the number of ultra-high-net-worth Indians and by 2028 some 20,000 Indians will be worth more than $30 million’.

According to the agents, the ‘Indian super rich typically own multiple homes across the globe, with 37 per cent of the wealth of Indian UHNWIs allocated to primary and secondary properties’.

And their preferred locations for investing in overseas real estate are London, Dubai and Miami. Reportedly among the prolific London property owners are Harish Ahuja, the chairman of Shahi Exports, an Indian apparel manufacturer and exporter, who is believed to have bought a £21 million Notting Hill home.

Meanwhile, last summer billionaire Ravi Ruia was said to have invested in a £113 million mansion overlooking Regent’s Park and vaccine tycoon Adar Poonawalla is understood to have bought Aberconway House in Mayfair for a reported £138 mllion.

‘The apartment was purchased as a ‘shell and core’ unit but once refurbished and interior designed, it will serve as an excellent long-term investment and London residence.’

He added that in 2024, Mayfair has ‘had its strongest year in almost a decade’, with 71 sales deals made between January and August – 11 of which, he noted were ‘trophy homes priced above £10 million’.

In comparison, in 2023, over the course of the entire year, they made 80 deals, of which just five were for deals over £10 million. This means, he said, that ‘the trophy home market has doubled in size this year’.

‘During the final quarter of 2024 deals in Mayfair look set to beat the record for the last eight years,’ Wetherell said.

He continued: ‘For Mayfair homes priced up to £15 million, the most active buyers in the market are UK based […] who comprise around 40 per cent of all buyers, the balance (60 per cent) are from overseas.

‘For Mayfair homes priced above £15 million the market is being driven by wealthy buyers from America, India and the Middle East (led by purchasers from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar). For the most expensive homes in Mayfair it is buyers from the Middle East and India who are most prevalent.

‘Grosvenor Square has always been the most sought after address for Indian buyers in Mayfair, and this is reflected in the fact that of the three deals Wetherell have just done with Indian buyers in Mayfair two of these sales have been for homes in the Square, both two bedroom lateral apartments purchased by Indian families as their London base.’

Meanwhile, Robert Dawson, Sales Director at Wetherell added: ‘This Grosvenor Square sale shows that there are some fantastic opportunities to be had in Mayfair if buyers are willing to take on “a project”.

‘The buyer remained open minded in their search, determined to get what they wanted, where they wanted, at the price they wanted, even if it meant investing the time, money and effort into a refurbishment of a “shell and core” unit.

‘As a result, they will end up with one of the best flats on Grosvenor Square without paying the price for someone else’s specification and internal fit out.’

  • Lady Colin Exposes the Shocking Truth Behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Divorce

Lady Colin Exposes the Shocking Truth Behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Divorce

Lady Colin Exposes the Shocking Truth Behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Divorce
Rumors surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage have resurfaced, fueled by comments from Lady Colin Campbell, who has intensified speculation that the couple may be on the verge of separation. Recent reports and statements from royal insiders suggest that the Sussexes are reportedly leading increasingly separate lives, with some experts hinting that Meghan might soon make Prince Harry her next target for a breakup.

According to Radar Online, Meghan has distanced herself from various relationships, including family, close friends, and, notably, the British royal family. This behavior has led palace insiders to dub her the “Duchess Difficult,” citing her high standards and strong opinions. Meghan’s decisions to sever ties with family members, including her father, and her dramatic exit from royal duties—referred to as “Megxit”—underscore a pattern of decisiveness and a willingness to leave relationships behind.

Royal biographer Hugo Vickers commented on Meghan’s habit of taking a hard line with relationships. He pointed out a history of ending ties when they no longer serve her, referencing her past breakups with her first husband, Hollywood producer Trevor Engelson, and former friend Jessica Moroney, as well as her distancing from her father and other royal family members. Vickers noted that people generally act in character, suggesting Meghan could potentially do the same with Harry. As he explained, “She dumped her father, she dumped her first husband, she dumped a Canadian chef lover, she dumped Jessica Moroney, and she then dumped the entire British royal family. So, who’s going to be next for the chop? I think inevitably it’s probably Prince Harry. There will come a time when she thinks that she doesn’t need him.”

The biographer also speculated that if a split were to happen, Meghan might frame the narrative to position herself as the wronged party, casting Harry in a less favorable light. Recently, signs of independence have become more apparent between Harry and Meghan. While Harry embarked on a charity trip to the UK and attended events in New York, Meghan was notably absent from these appearances. Even on his milestone 40th birthday, Harry reportedly chose to hike with friends instead of celebrating at home with Meghan.

Lady Colin Campbell has voiced her own suspicions, noting that rumors of the couple’s rocky marriage have surfaced while King Charles and Queen Camilla are away in Australia. In response to the speculation, Lady C suggested that while Prince Harry may still be welcomed back into the royal fold by his father, it could take a significant shift for others to accept him. “I suppose they could have some form of rapprochement, but it would always be superficial. I understand that Catherine feels betrayed by Harry and would never trust him again. Charles loves his son and will always have a door open for him, especially if a divorce does happen.”

Lady C and other royal experts have echoed sentiments that Prince Harry’s influence outside the royal family has not met his expectations. While Meghan’s advocacy and media endeavors have kept her in the spotlight, Harry’s separation from royal duties has notably changed his public image. According to Lady C, without the royal platform, “Harry’s no global superstar; at best, he’s a global sensation.”

Former magazine editor Tina Brown also weighed in, describing the couple’s departure from the royal family as a disaster. While critiquing Meghan’s tendency to seek advice only to ignore it, she maintained a slightly sympathetic view of Harry. Some speculate that Brown’s restrained comments may be an attempt to keep communication channels open with the palace. Lady C suggested that Brown might be positioning herself to assist Harry if he decides to return to the royal fold in the event of a divorce.
