The Wanted’s Max George has opened up about his feud with One Direction – and how Niall Horan was the “chilled one” in the band.
The singer opened up about how One Direction were The Wanted biggest rivals who always pipped them to the post the charts.
A row broke out between George and Zayn Malik after Malik called George a “geek” after he posted a photo of himself at a party with Usher.
Opening up about the spat, George told Ladbrokes Live: “Our rivals were One Direction and certainly at the start because we came before them. “We were the ones up for all the awards and having number ones and then they came along and cleaned up. We had a spat with Zayn and Louis, starting off online.
“We were offering to fight each other at Madison Square Garden and I was all pumped up waiting for him at the bottom of the stage. For me this wasn’t just an online spat. Security kept them at a fair distance…there was about twenty security there.
The row began during the Twitter spat between George and Malik.
“Does that mean I’m ‘in’? George responded, to which Malik replied: “I’m not sure why your still talking to me mate conversation ended when I called you a geek.
“Your display [picture] just how’s how much of a wannabe you are.”
George’s bandmate Tom Parker got involved, tweeting “I think “1 stripes” got his knickers in a twist bro”
Malik responded: “Mate, if I had a face like yours my hair would be the last thing I’d worry about.
“Let’s not even start discussing vocal ability boys. Would love to chat gotta run though rehearsals.”
George responded: “Enjoy rehearsals. Stay off the bud… It clearly makes u cranky,” before Malik said: “Alright chlamydia boy ;).”
One Direction member Louis Tomlinson then told Parker to “pipe down bad boy”, Parker responded by calling the One Direction member a “sass master”.
George later tweeted: “Tell me you’re problems without the 8 security in NYC… The only problem I have with you is the s**t banter. Grow up son.”
“I’d f**king love to, see you in new York big man ha u clown,” Malik hit back.
But now George said he looks back on the row and “laughs about it”, saying Liam Payne was a huge support to him after Tom died in 2022.
“I look back at it now and we laugh about it. I have gotten to know Liam and we speak and send each other little videos and updates now and again.
“Liam has been so supportive since Tom died and he came to his funeral. I have seen all the boys since that night and we just laugh now and think, “F**king hell, what were we at.”
“We were the older lads and thought these lads were piping up a bit and thought ‘Hold on a minute, calm down boys’ and then it got out of hand.
“Niall, Harry, and Liam were the chilled ones, whereas Louis and Zayn were the feisty ones and myself and Tom had a couple of those clashes with them. The four of us were like ‘alright let’s have it’,” he added.
