Reba McEntire set to star in new untitled sitcom… 11 years after last lead role on a series
Reba McEntire will star in an untitled sitcom for NBC Universal, as well as executive produce the project.
The country singer, 68, will play a character who inherits her father’s restaurant, later finding out her business partner is her half-sister she didn’t know about.
Filming has not yet began for the multi-camera sitcom and only the pilot has been ordered.
Reba will executive produce the project with Kevin Abbott, Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel – who were all the former executive producers of her previous show Reba.
In addition, Julie Abbott will also serve as an executive producer.
Reba most recently had a main role in Big Sky, a crime drama created by David E. Kelley, centered around investigators living in Montana.
Reba played Sunny Barnes in season three for 13 episodes.
Prior to that, Reba played June in six episodes of Young Sheldon.
She currently serves as a judge of The Voice, alongside Chance the Rapper, Dan + Shay and John Legend.
In 2012, Reba starred in the lead role in Malibu Country, a series that was created by David A. Stewart.
Reva starred as Reba Gallagher who is a former country singer that finds out her husband cheated on her.
She take her two kids and moves to Malibu after living in Nashville in order to start a new life.
Reba is best known on tv for her role in her self titled sitcom – Reba – which aired from 2001 until 2007.
The singer/actress played in 127 episodes in the hit series, centered around her character Reba Hart as she resumes life following her husband wanting a divorce and remarrying a younger woman.
Reba was Emmy nominated, airing on The WB and later The CW.
She starred alongside Christopher Rich, Joanna Garcia and Steve Howey on the show.
Reba sang the opening theme song – I’m a Survivor, which also became a hit song.
The artist began her career in 1975 after she signed a recording contract with a country music label.
Her first top 20 hit reaching the country music chart was I’d Really Love to See You Tonight/Three Sheets in the Wind – which she released in 1978 with Jacky Ward.
She earned her first Grammy Award in 1987, for her song Whoever’s in New England.
She also received a Grammy in 1994 for her collaboration with Does He Love You with Linda Davis, and her album Sing it Now: Songs of Faith & Hope in 2018.
Reba was nominated for a total of 17 Grammys in her six-decade long career.
