Reba McEntire opens up about Kelly Clarkson’s divorce from her former stepson Brandon Blackstock: ‘You know, I love them both’
More than a year after Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock, her ex’s former stepmother Reba McEntire is speaking out.
The 66-year-old singer was previously married to Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 to 2015.
The country music legend opened up in a new interview with Extra where she spoke about the divorce for the first time.
‘You know, I love them both. Brandon’s my stepson, Kelly’s my good friend,’ McEntire shared in the interview.
‘I am pulling for both of them. I hope they’re happy and healthy and pull though this,’ McEntire added.
‘I pray everyone gives them the encouragement they can because they need it right now, both of them do. I love the both of them with all my heart,’ she added.
Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020 from Blackstock, citing irreconcilable differences.
Clarkson was also given primary custody of their two children, River Rose, 7, and Remington Alexander, 5.
The divorce was ultimately finalized in August 2021.
McEntire also spoke about her upcoming box set Revived Remixed Revisited, which features 30 of her biggest hits.
‘I’ve kind of lived with these for so many years, and then to get to go back into [the studio] and re-record them, re-sing them, I really enjoyed it,’ she said.
When asked what she enjoyed the most, ‘Just being back in the studio. I love the creativity of it. Even though it is songs I’ve recorded before, we’re doing it in a different way.’
She also spoke about her boyfriend Rex Linn, joking, ‘I’m Tater Tot, he’s Sugar Tots — we’re the Tots.’
She added he’s a, ‘great storyteller, total gentleman, hysterical,’ adding, ‘He loves to work, I love to work.’
‘We were both wannabe cowboys, cowgirls then got into the entertainment business. We have a lot similar loves and passions… We just get along so well. I’m so grateful,’ she added.
