Prince Harry shares reason for William snub as he plans to see King Charles on Invictus Games visit

The Duke of Sussex is set to visit the King as he continues his cancer convalescence during a trip to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games but he is not expected to meet Prince William

Royal fans hoping to see Harry and William heal their fractured relationship were dealt a blow with news they will not meet when the Duke comes to London.

King Charles has 'no time' to see Prince Harry during UK trip

While Prince Harry ’s reunion with his dad will be a welcome sight as the King recovers from cancer, the gesture will not extend to his brother. The Duke will be flying in from the US to attend a ceremony on Wednesday at St Paul’s Cathedral marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which he set up for injured servicemen and women to compete in a variety of sports.

A source said: “Harry has kept in regular contact with his father on several occasions and made no secret of his desire to see him when he can. He has been especially concerned about him and hopes the King will be well and able to see him as planned.” Royal sources insisted that despite having a busy diary next week, Charles intends to see his estranged son.

But an insider said of Harry’s snub to William: “Their relationship remains extremely fractured. Harry has privately expressed a wish to sit down with his brother but now is not the time.” Harry, 39, is due to arrive in London on Tuesday and stay three days. It will be his second time in Britain this year, after February’s trip to see his dad a day after it was announced Charles had cancer.

Harry managed to see his ailing father for just 30 minutes at Clarence House. It marked a healing step in their relationship that was dented after Harry and Meghan quit royal life in 2020 and moved to the US. Charles, who returned to public duties this week, is expected to be in London on Tuesday for cancer treatment.

Aides said his movements are dependent on how he is feeling on any day. Harry’s contact with his dad has “remained positive”, a source revealed. The Duke has sent messages of support during his cancer battle. In a recent US TV interview Harry said he hoped the King’s diagnosis can have a “reunifying effect” on the family.

The Prince will meet up with Meghan on Thursday in Nigeria, where the couple were invited to take part in cultural activities. They are expected to meet military staff during the trip, which is linked to the Invictus Games. It is their first trip to the African nation, which holds a special place in Meghan’s heart having revealed last year she is “43% Nigerian”.

The couple will later fly home to the US and not stop in Britain. The King is to become patron of the Royal British Legion after a major review of more than 1,000 royal patronages since the Queen’s death.
