Meghan Markle accused of orchestrating smear campaign against half-sister in dismissed lawsuit

In a recent legal saga, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, found herself entangled in a defamation lawsuit filed by her half-sister Samantha Markle.

The lawsuit, which alleged Meghan’s involvement in a “smear campaign” against Samantha, was ultimately dismissed by the court, leaving both parties at odds.
Samantha Markle’s case, filed in March 2022, contended that Meghan had tarnished her reputation by contributing to an unauthorized biography and discussing their relationship during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Samantha further accused Meghan and Prince Harry’sNetflix docuseries of perpetuating damaging falsehoods about her.
Samantha Markle plans to file an appeal
Court documents revealed the strained relationship between the half-sisters, citing instances where Meghan allegedly distanced herself from Samantha, particularly after her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017.
Despite Samantha’s claims, the court ruled in favor of Meghan, dismissing the defamation charges with prejudice.
Peter Tickton, Samantha’s lawyer, expressed disappointment with the court’s decision and announced plans to appeal.
“We do not need to show that the judge misused her discretion, just that the judge did not read the complaint right as a matter of law,”Tickton stated, hinting at their strategy for the appeal process.
