King Charles DID ‘offer to put Harry up in royal residence’ for UK visit but he ‘turned it down’

According to fresh reports, King Charles is said to have ‘offered to put Prince Harry up in a royal residence’ for his UK visit last week but he ‘turned it down’ and stayed in a hotel

According to sources, King Charles DID in fact offer Prince Harry a place to stay when he came back to England last week, but the Duke “turned it down”.

Last Tuesday, Harry touched down in London after flying back to the United Kingdom from California. The Duke of Sussex came back to his former country of residence for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, with him attending a service at St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday.

The Duke of Sussex is reported to have stayed in a hotel on his brief UK visit, which came after he and his wife Meghan Markle handed back the keys to Frogmore Cottage last summer after they were evicted from their England home.

Sources have claimed that Harry’s father, King Charles, had agreed to let his son stay in a royal residence for the trip, but Harry turned it down to stay in a hotel. Charles is said to have agreed because he knew that his son no longer had an official residence in the UK, The Sunday Times reported.

Shortly after touching down in London last Tuesday, it was revealed that King Charles was too busy to meet with his son after weeks of speculation that they could meet. On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Duke said: “It, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

And now friends close to Harry have insisted that he did try hard to arrange a meeting with his father, which comes after the Sunday Times, reported that insiders close to the Monarch alleged it would have been more practical to arrange a meeting between the father and son should Harry have opted to stay at a royal residence instead of a hotel.

But despite sources saying Harry tried hard to arrange something with his father, according to reports, a friend of the King has claimed that Harry never asked to see his father, nor did he invite him to the Invictus Games event.

“It’s all very sad,” a friend of the King told the Sunday Times, they went on: “While it is true that the King is understandably wary about meeting with Harry, given the publicity circus that seems to surround all such visits, he did of course agree to see his son at the most vulnerable moment of his illness [in February], and at very short notice.

“While he was hardly going to roll out the red carpet the moment this Invictus trip was announced, with doctors advising him to focus on his treatment and recovery, the idea that he refused to find space in his diary … well, let’s say recollections may vary once again.”
