John then told Kamalei that he was “really into” his version and he found it beautiful.

He added: “The whole demeanor with what you carry yourself, with gratitude and your spirit, we feel that. It comes through in your voice as well.” He added: “I don’t know who Chance is going to choose but I know I have a steal left.”

Chance ended up choosing Maddi and as soon as Kamalei thanked his coach for his experience, here comes John and Reba McEntire pushing down their steal button. This gave Kamalei another chance to compete on the singing competition.

To convince Kamalei to choose him, John said: “You bring so much of you to this competition. This would be the most poetic outcome to this moment.” Reba was wiping away her tears after Kamalei’s performance and told the contestant that musicians usually do not touch her heart but Kamalei does and he shares it with people.

Viewers were also impressed with Kamalei’s performance. One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “Kamalei Kawa’a all heart, beautiful tone. Him bouncing thru it was too cute, possibly trying to feel his way through the emotion? Idk. It worked for him. He did most of the falsetto moments in head voice, lotta range.” Another person wrote: “Kamalei sang that song from the heart! #TheVoice.”
