The Princess of Wales is a master at the curtsy…
Princess Kate Middleton performs a perfect curtsy every single time, but the royal was forced to do it four times during the recent French state visit.
The mum-of-three is a master when it comes to greeting other members of the royal family. She’s often praised for setting an example of how to welcome King Charles and Queen Camilla when they see each other.
However, during the recent state visit where President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte spent time in the UK, Kate Middleton had to curtsy four times almost back to back.

Princess Kate Middleton’s curtsy for King Charles and Queen Camilla
Kate Middleton performs the dip well, and was seen completing the curtsy multiple times shortly after welcoming the Macrons to the UK.
After she and Prince William welcomed the couple – where Emmanuel ‘kissed’ the royal – they travelled to meet the king and queen in Windsor.
While the president and first lady greeted Charles and Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales hung back to give them room.
But a video shows Kate Middleton performing a curtsy for both Charles and Camilla. However, as they were chatting to the Macrons, they didn’t notice the gesture.
Therefore, when Kate and William came over to talk with them, she repeated the gesture again. This time so that they could see it. After greeting His Majesty she greeted Camilla and they exchanged a kiss on the cheek before Kate Middleton performed her fourth and final curtsy.

Royal protocol
While Prince William is second in line to the throne with Kate by his side, they often follow royal protocol. For men, they bow, and women curtsy – something Kate Middleton has mastered for some time.
Although it’s clear the king and queen appreciate the gesture, it’s said the couple are more laid-back over royal rules. They are often seen giving a kiss on the cheek and a hug to close friends and family members.
Similarly to Duchess Sophie making a mistake when she curtsied to the monarch last month. Charles hung on to his daughter-in-law and they embraced afterwards.

A kiss for a princess
Royal policy was brought into question shortly after Macron landed in the UK, when he was seen giving Kate and Camila a kiss on the hand. However, it came to light that the president was merely gesturing towards it and there was no contact.
While some eyebrows were raised, the royal family themselves say there are no strict rules when you meet royals.
On their website, they write: “There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms.
“For men, this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way.”
However, it seems the Princess of Wales wants to uphold this tradition. She, as well as her children, are often seen following the protocols during royal events.
