Oscar winners 2025 in full as Emilia Perez suffers huge loss after record 11 nominations

The Oscars 2025 provided some huge wins for hit movie Anora – but it was a difficult night for Emilia Perez, who won just two out of the 11 categories they were nominated in

Anora was the big winner at the Oscars 2025 – as Emilia Perez suffered a tough night.

The 2025 Academy Awards went without a hitch this evening, with it being a great night for Sean Baker and Anora as they won no less than five awards including the coveted Best Picture and Mikey Madison picked up Best Actress in a Leading Role. Anora’s director Sean Baker also won in his category whilst the film picked up Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing.

Meanwhile, it wasn’t such a good night for Emilia Perez. The movie had been nominated in a whopping 11 categories this year, with it picking up two of those awards – with Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Zoe Saldaña and Best Original Song for El Mal.

Elsewhere, The Brutalist took home three awards including a Best Actor in a Leading Role win for Adrien Brody, whilst they also triumphed in the Best Cinematography and Best Original Score category. Wicked picked up two awards in the Best Production Design and Best Costume Design categories and Dune: Part Two won Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.

There was an emotional tribute to Gene Hackman, who died just a few days ago, whilst the show’s host Conan O’Brien didn’t mince his words when it came to controversial Emilia Perez star Karla Sofia Gascon.

Collecting the Best Picture award, Anora’s producer Alex Coco said: “We made this movie independently. If you’re trying to make independent films, please keep doing it. We need more. This is proof.”

Fellow producer Samantha Quan added: “We made this with very little money, but all of our hearts to all of the dreamers and the young filmmakers out there. Tell the stories you want to tell. Tell the stories that move you. I promise you you will never regret it.

Director Sean Baker then said: “I want to thank the Academy for recognising a truly independent film. This film was made with the blood, sweat and tears of incredible indie artists and… long live independent film!”

When Mikey Madison picked up the Best Actress role, she admitted it was “very surreal”. Speaking to the stars packed into the Dolby Theater, she said: “Wow this is very surreal. Forgive me, I’m nervous so I’m going to read off a paper. Thank you so much to the Academy. I grew up in Los Angeles but Hollywood always felt so far away from me, so to be here, standing in this room today is really incredible … Thank you to my incredible family, my mom and my dad, and my sister and my little brother and my twin brother Miles, thank you for being my best friend, not that you have a choice…

“I also want to recognise the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful and breathtaking work of my fellow nominees. I’m honoured to be recognised alongside all of you, this is a dream come true and I’m probably going to wake up tomorrow. Thank you so much to Sean [Baker, director], I adore you, this is all because of you, thank you.”
