Met Gala organisers were said to be left in a panic over a potential meeting of Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness at the event after they split after 27 years of marriage

The Met Gala 2025 is here and fashion fans are eager to see the styles on show. However, the organisers are said to have been left in a panic over a potential showdown between Hugh Jackman and his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness at the annual event.

Furness is expected to be in attendance at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for the first time since her bitter split from the Hollywood star. They went their separate ways in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage.

However, it’s claimed their could be tense moments if Jackman attends with his new girlfriend, Sutton Foster.

According to New Idea, it has left bosses with a headache. A source told the publication: “It’s a nightmare because no one knows if Hugh is bringing his girlfriend along.

“Hugh and Sutton have been talking for months about stepping out as a couple at the biggest night in fashion.”

They added that the event had always been the former couple’s “thing”. “It would be a PR nightmare if they crossed paths,” they went on. “Especially since they’re barely speaking.”

The Australian producer, 69, had been married to The Greatest Showman actor, 56, for 27 years before they announced their shock split back in 2023. Since then, Deborra is said to have remained estranged from her ex husband. Meanwhile, Wolverine star Hugh has gone public with his new girlfriend, American actress Sutton, 50.

Announcing their split at the time, Jackman and Furness released a joint statement. The estranged spouses told fans they had decided to “separate to pursue our individual growth”

They said: “We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage.

“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”

After confirming his new romance, several of Hugh’s friends from Australia were reportedly “disgusted” with his actions. At the time, sources told Radar: “Hugh’s friends in Australia are close to Debs too, and they’re siding with her in all of this.

“Even though Hugh hasn’t gone public with Sutton, it’s an open secret that they’re madly in love. It’s no wonder Debs feels like she got tossed aside for the younger model.”

This year’s Met Gala theme at the annual event is ‘Tailored for You’ in connection with the Costume Institute’s landmark new exhibition, ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’.
