HBO has revealed the three news stars of its upcoming Harry Potter reboot who are set to play the titular wizard, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger
The three new stars of Harry Potter’s upcoming TV reboot have been confirmed – and the actor playing the titular wizard already has a BBC show under his belt. HBO announced today that Dominic McLaughlin will be playing Harry Potter, while Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will be starring as Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley respectively in the new show.
While all three young actors are newcomers, it won’t be Dominic’s first TV role – as the future Harry Potter is also set to appear in new BBC action-adventure series Gifted. The children’s show is set in Edinburgh and tells the story of a diverse group of young Scottish teens as they discover their own unique superpowers

Dominic will also be appearing in the BBC’s new series Gifted
He is also set to appear in the film Grow, alongside Bridgerton’s Golda Rosheuvel, Ted Lasso’s Jeremy Swift, Shaun of the Dead’s Nick Frost and comedian Joe Wilkinson.
Meanwhile, Arabella – who has been cast as Hermione – has experience on the West End, having played the titular role in Matilda the Musical.
Alastair will be completing the trio as Harry’s best friend Ron, with the actor having only previously appeared in an advert for potato producer Albert Bartlett.
Harry Potter’s executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod said in a statement that they are “delighted” to announce the show’s new stars after an “extraordinary search”, which began back in September last year.
“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” they said.
“We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
Based on JK Rowling’s hit novels, the TV series will be a faithful adaptation of the books, according to HBO. “Each season will bring Harry Potter to new and existing audiences,” the broadcaster has teased.
The three young stars will be joining the already stellar cast, which includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Snape and Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall.
Conclave and Shrek star John will be the first-ever American actor to play Dumbledore within the Harry Potter universe. The role was played in the films by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, while Jude Law and Toby Regbo have played younger versions of the character in the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs.
