Kate Middleton “fulfilled a long held promise” to her daughter Princess Charlotte, feeling “guilty” for not spending enough time with her due to cancer treatment.

The Duchess of Cambridge, an avid tennis enthusiast and patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016, is often seen at Wimbledon and is expected to grace the Royal Box once more this year.

Last year, Charlotte made her debut at the prestigious tennis event, fulfilling a vow Kate had made to treat her to the finals. Speaking to The Sun, royal biographer Ingrid Seward explained: “It was a long held promise that Kate would take Charlotte to the finals as a special treat.

“Kate felt guilty she hadn’t been able to spend as much time as she would have liked to be with the kids because of her exhaustion after her treatment.”

Seward also suggested that Charlotte’s presence helped to shift the focus from Kate, who, despite her health struggles, was “determined” to make it to Centre Court last year.

Young royal Charlotte was lauded by body language expert Judi James as Kate’s “wing-girl” during a public appearance.

Judi James told The Mirror: “Charlotte is still showing signs of being her mother’s wing-girl. She is now grown up enough to walk independently beside or behind her mother, with Kate only performing a small, loving touch on the back to bring her forward for her handshakes,” reports Gloucestershire Live.

Moreover, Judi observed: “Charlotte is so clearly still using her mother as her body language role model, too. She appeared to be tuned into Kate closely, changing her own pose to mirror her mother’s while they all stood chatting.”

Wimbledon commenced this Monday and is set to continue until Sunday, July 13. Royal sightings have become a huge aspect of the prestigious tennis event.

The tournament’s first day saw Sarah, Duchess of York, gracing Wimbledon with Princess Beatrice by her side, whilst Lady Gabriella Kingston made an appearance with philanthropist Robert Denning.

The grand slam also attracts a steady stream of celebrities, including newly knighted Sir David Beckham who was seen savouring the matches from Centre Court.

Hollywood A-lister Jessica Alba was spotted soaking in the atmosphere along with her daughter Honor Warren. Radio One’s Mollie King and England cricket star Stuart Broad were also among the attendees who added glamour to the sporting spectacle on Monday.
