One Emmerdale star has teased his villainous character might be redeemable after all, as we see them in a new way onscreen.

Joe Absolom has teased that if his sinister character Ray managed to escape his criminal life and his “troubled” past, there could be a future for him on the show. Fans were introduced to the character not so long ago, and he was soon revealed to be a dealer.

Dragging teens Dylan and April into his dodgy schemes, he’s manipulated the pair leading to some worrying moments. But it all led to the big reveal that the mastermind behind the whole operation was in fact none other than farmer Celia.

Not only that, but she is Ray’s ‘mother, having raised him since he was youngster on his own. She took him in and brought him up, dragging him into her secret criminal schemes to the point he is now trapped.

But actor Joe told The Mirror that there could be some rather unexpected twists on the way. Not only might we see Ray in a new light that could see him be redeemable, but Joe teased some new characters will be caught up in his ongoing storyline.

On whether Ray could be redeemed, he shared: “Yeah. I think he’s had a bit of a troubled life. And I think he’s got an interesting set up with his mum. And I think when he comes to Emmerdale, the village, he finds characters that challenge that and make him question that.

“I think that he’s slightly more human at times. I think as everybody is, there’s many different facets of everybody.” Adding that there’s a different side to Ray when he’s with Celia, he told us: “It’s quite an interesting dynamic to to explore.”

With currently only Ray, Celia, Dylan and April involved in the County Lines plot, more characters will soon be caught up in the drama. Joe teased his character will be exposed, leading to residents finding out what he’s been up to.

He said: “I’m intrigued how that sort of comes out because basically April is a Dingle, so she has all that weight with her. I have stuff with Marlon and Rhona. And eventually that leads to scenes with Cain.

“People start tweaking that this isn’t just a sort of mother and son. These people are new to the village and these people are bad news.” But Joe’s loving playing a baddie.

He said: “It’s been good, yeah. It’s good to be bad. It’s good to be evil. It’s good to be a little bit snidey. It’s easier to be snidey and horrible than it is to be happy.”
