TV icon Noel Edmonds has proposed to his wife so they can get married for the fifth time, popping the romantic question: “Deal or no deal?” The loved-up couple just need Mr Blobby to turn up as the Best Man and this could be the most iconic wedding ever. Noel, who has been divorced twice, met Liz Davies while she was working as his make-up artist when he hosted C4’s hit teatime game show Deal Or No Deal, and they got married – for the first time – 16 years ago in July 2009. Since then the couple have found themselves being married in random situations three more times, one of which Noel can’t even remember, and now he wants to marry again in their new Kiwi home.

Noel says: “We’ve been married a lot. We got married in a civil ceremony in the Cotswolds, then we went to our home in France and an Anglican minister who I knew very well came over and he was going to bless us and he did the whole thing again. So this became a bit of a joke with our friends. Oh yeah, we were filming on a cruise ship and the captain married us again. We’ve done four. But we want a Kiwi one. And there’s a compelling reason why we should get married again, in New Zealand. We own a chapel. So why wouldn’t we?”

The 76-year-old, who ruled the radio waves and Saturday night telly for decades, turned his back on showbiz in 2018 to move to New Zealand with 55-year-old Liz and start a business together in the quiet town of Ngatimoti. River Haven, with the strapline ‘Positively Together’, boasts a vineyard, coffee cart, general store, a wellness sanctuary, energy garden, a restaurant and pub, called The Bugger Inn, and, most importantly, a chapel. In scenes to be shown on Noel Edmonds’ Kiwi Adventure on ITV1, Noel shows groundsman Jason the rundown building.

Noel says: “I have a chapel. I acquired a chapel with the farm and as you can see, it is in desperate need of restoration. It’s a fly and wasp cemetery. But my project, starting early next year, is to restore it completely and then Liz and I will get married for the fifth time.” He adds: “The day I met Liz it changed my life forever.

We were never going to get married and then I took her to Russia for a little break, and when I went down on bended knee in -6 degrees in St Petersburg in the snow at Catherine Palace, luckily she said ‘Yes Noel, I will’. So to restore the chapel, to have all our friends here, somehow it’s a really important milestone on this journey we have here. Cor, I don’t half love Mrs Edmonds. I finally found what love really is.”

Cameras capture the big proposal, which happens when Noel and Liz have a romantic evening and are chatting in their outdoor jacuzzi. Noel says to Liz: “It makes me think of the three most wonderful things in my life. You’ll be pleased to know you’re at no.1, by some margin. Way down at no.2, helicopters. Nudging no. 2, topiary.”

Then, holding her hand, he says: “I’ve had an idea. We have never been married in New Zealand, our home. I propose that we restore the chapel on our farm and on our wedding anniversary, I want to walk you down the aisle of our own chapel and have the wonderful Russell, the local minister, marry us again. Deal or no deal?”

A completely stunned Liz asks: “Really?” before saying: “Go on then, alrighty.” Noel, ever the showman, then makes a comedy effort to go down on one knee as he says “Will you marry me?” while blowing bubbles half underwater. “How could I refuse?” says Liz, welling up as the couple kiss. “That’s something else to organise.” She adds: “He’s not scared of showing his emotions. He’s a big romantic, which I’m pleased about because after almost 20 years he still wants to marry me.”

*Noel Edmonds’ Kiwi Adventure concludes on Friday 11th July, ITV1 at 9pm. The series is available to stream on ITVX.
