Coronation Street Gary Windass star ‘lets slip’ exit date after shock coma twist

Mikey North has opened up about his future on Coronation Street with fans fearful that favourite character Gary Windass could die in shocking scenes set to air in the coming days and weeks

Mikey North has opened up about his future on Coronation Street amid fears his character will die. Mikey has played Gary Windass for nearly two decades but there are real fears he could be leaving.

During a chat on This Morning about the big storyline with Gary, Mikey made a cheeky admission about his time on the Cobbles. He told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, “Gary’s walked out and has gone missing. We find him in hospital in a coma.”

When soap expert Sharon Marshall joked that Maria was the ‘black widow’ of the Cobbles as those paired with her usually die. Mikey then said: “I think I’ve been with her five or six years counting, so I’ve probably got about six months left.”

Gary has been part of a huge storyline as of late – and is currently lying in a coma in hospital after being brutally attacked and left for dead. He disappeared from screens a while back after clashing with his wife Maria.

Lou had framed Gary and made it seem like he was having an affair. He left the Cobbles, saying he was going to stay with his mum Anna Windass – but Maria soon realised he had left her’s and returned home, only for him to be nowhere to found.

Gary is currently in a coma in hospital after a harrowing attack – but what happened to him and will he be ok?

Asked if he was going anywhere, he said: “I hope not … If I am, it’s been a pleasure being on this show.” They also chatted about the Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover and Mikey said he’d love to take on Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

It was also revealed that there will be a flashback episode to explain what happened, as he teased “anyone” could be responsible. A mystery woman will be at Gary’s bedside but has told everyone his name is Chesney. Who is she though?

Mikey also revealed that he previously auditioned for another role – Chesney’s brother – but he didn’t get the role as he was too young.

Mikey previously opened up about filming the big fight scenes with Mick actor Joe Layton. Speaking about the arrival of Mick and Lou, he said: “They’ve been great. Their arrival reminded me of the Windass arrival all those years ago – coming in and ruffling a few feathers! I’ve been lucky down the years; I tend to get involved with a lot of new people who come into the show for short periods of the time. They’re always playing characters that, like I say, are there to ruffle feathers – the Pat Phelans and the Rick Neelans.”

He loves doing stunts himself and jumped at the chance to do the fight scenes with Joe.

“I’ve always said, ‘I’m probably not really an actor, I’m just a frustrated stunt man!’ I love doing all that, it’s my favourite part of the job. Whenever I get to do a stunt or a fight scene, that’s definitely my favourite part, and that was another good one,” he said.

“We enjoyed it, Joe was great as well – we certainly got stuck in! I realised the other day that I think I love it so much because I used to love WWE as a kid. I’m sure that must be where it all comes from – picking up the moves from watching that.”
