Celebrity Big Brother’s booing fans slammed for ‘sick’ reaction to Trisha Goddard exit

Trisha Goddard, 67, joined the ITV’s Celebrity Big Brother to show her audience they should ‘not be scared of living’ despite her terminal stage four cancer diagnosis

Celebrity Big Brother fans have slammed those who booed Trisha Goddard as she became the second housemate to leave the show last night. The 67 year old veteran broadcaster had joined the ITV reality competition with a mission to inspire her audience not to fear life, despite battling terminal stage four cancer.

After a nine-day stay, she exited the show. In the public vote, Trisha was up against fellow housemates Patsy Palmer and Jack P Shepherd. As she left the iconic house in London, Trisha was met with a chorus of boos from some of those in the crowd outside.

Viewers watching at home were sickened by the backlash. “Yes Trisha is opinionated and sometimes talks too much about herself but she’s certainly not worthy of being booed, especially when she has terminal cancer like the crowd can F off with that #CBBUK,” one penned on Twitter (X).

“Regardless of whether or not you find trisha likeable, booing a woman with stage 4 cancer is a genuinely terrible thing to do and this audience should be embarrassed #cbbuk,” another added as a third wrote: “Trisha saying she likes the distractions in the house and there are losers booing her- I don’t care how annoying she is, don’t be heartless #cbbuk.”

Upon her exit, Trisha confessed feeling “a bit sad” but also reflected positively on her stint in the house. In conversation with hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best, she brushed off the reasons given by her fellow contestants for nominating her – especially singer Chesney Hawkes’ remark that conversing with her felt like being on her talk show.

“That’s actually a great compliment,” Trisha responded. She further added: “No, because we all said we were all scratching around in the dirt to find something negative to stay around each other.”

Earlier in the episode, Trisha had an emotional chat in the diary rook where she revealed how much she’d enjoyed the Big Brother experience for giving her a break from the gloom and pain of her ongoing cancer treatment. She likened her time on the show to a “holiday” from the constant worry of her condition, and said it felt incredible to act like “a child again”

She expressed: “It meant a lot – it was respite… I didn’t have to think of the next scan.” The former chat show icon opened up about her cancer, mentioning that discussing the disease was a brief respite from constant thoughts about it. Having been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer 20 months prior, Trisha is now under palliative care.

During her stay on the show, she was allocated a private room and always had her “bag full of meds” with her as part of her continuing care regime. Trisha’s stint on Celebrity Big Brother sparked its share of disputes.

In a recent episode, the show found itself at the centre of a race-related controversy following an incident involving Trisha and fellow participant Michael Fabricant. This occurred during a task where Michael gave his take on immigration, which led to Trisha confronting him after she sensed potential Islamophobic tones in his speech, which he fiercely denied.

“Hang on! Are you slipping into Islamophobia?,” Trisha challenged, triggering divided reactions from viewers – some backing her stance, others deeming her accusation “uncalled for”.

Elsewhere in the house, tensions flared due to Mickey Rourke’s forced exit on grounds of “offensive and inappropriate” behaviour. The veteran screen star, aged 72, faced a financial blow as his substantial £500,000 fee was reported to have been cut by 90% following his departure, amid discussions about the adjustment to his earnings.
