Bob Mortimer returns to hit BBC show after two years as fans prepare for ‘TV gold’

Would I Lie To You fans are ecstatic ahead of tonight’s episode, with comedy legend Bob Mortimer returning for his twelfth appearance on the BBC One panel show with Rob Brydon

Bob Mortimer is set to return to Would I Lie To You for his twelfth episode on the BBC One panel show – and fans can’t wait for the comedian’s stint.

Hosted by Rob Brydon, Would I Lie To You sees team captains David Mitchell, Lee Mack and celebrity guests take it in turns to tell stories as the opposing team try to work out whether it’s a truth or a lie.

Tonight’s episode sees Bob, 65, return to the show alongside Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies, comedian Michelle de Swarte and comedian Chris Ramsay. However, fans are hoping for yet another wild story from Bob – who has earned a reputation for getting into wacky scrapes.

“I’m not saying I’m old and boring. But discovering a new Bob Mortimer #WILTY is on absolutely makes a perfect Friday evening,” one fan wrote. Another said: “I don’t watch much terrestrial television these days, but will always make an exception for Bob Mortimer when he’s on ‘would I lie to you’.”

Another tweeted: “Bob Mortimer returns to Would I Lie To You? tonight. Which is always TV gold!” A fourth said: “Bob Mortimer back on would i lie to you – life is worth living.”

Bob’s previous visits to Would I Lie To You have seen the comedian claim to be able to break an apple in half with his bare hands, state that he performs his own dentistry work and reveal that he lost teeth while eating a KitKat Chunky – all of which turned out to be true.

Bob is best known as half of the double act Reeves and Mortimer with Vic Reeves, while in recent years, he has delighted fans with his BBC Two series Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing.

Would I Lie To You may not be the only BBC show that Bob takes part in, with the comic telling The Mirror in an exclusive chat that he wants to do the Celebrity Traitors.

“It’s the only show of its kind on TV that I would agree to get involved with but, yes, definitely count me in, I’d love to do it,” he said. “I watch the American, UK and Australian versions of The Traitors. I think they’re all great, it’s a brilliant format. And Claudia is the best of the presenters.”
