Strictly Come Dancing’s Toyah Willcox vows to “prove the doubters wrong” after a controversial dance-off last week.

The singer managed to see another week after she and her professional partner were in the bottom two last weekend. Olympic swimmer Tom Dean was sent home, which many viewers weren’t happy with.
But Toyah is coming back fighting as she says she will prove fans wrong this weekend during the show’s Movie Week. She is set to take the the dancefloor with Neil Jones by her side as they dance a samba to the song Poor Unfortunate Souls from the Little Mermaid.

Speaking to The Sun, Toyah said: “Everyone was completely shocked. Tom is an Olympian, but when it comes to a dance-off I’m going to give my best against anyone. They look at a tiny little 66-year-old who is either the same age as their mother or their granny – I fully understand that to young people I’m incredibly old, but I don’t behave like that.”
She added: “I also like that some younger people might not know who I am, because they might not know how strong I am.” Many fans of the competition were outraged to see make Toyah to the next round as she was the favourite to leave the show.
Taking to social media after the results show on Sunday, Neil shared snaps of himself and Toyah on the dancefloor, and wrote: “Ladies and Gentlemen when you ask me how my Saturday night went.”
Standing up for his celebrity co-star, he added: “I just want to say it’s week 2 @toyahofficial is not a dancer but every day she’s improving, each day I tell Toyah, it might not be perfect but you are improving and at the same time you are not losing who you really are and that is what @bbcstrictly is all about.”
He concluded: “You bring so much joy in our lives and I feel lucky that I have the opportunity to teach and guide you so we can both entertain.” Meanwhile, after being voted off, Tom expressed his sadness that his Strictly journey had ended so soon. He wrote: “Coming straight from the Paris 2024 Olympics into Strictly Come Dancing has been a whirlwind but I’m so so proud.
“The journey may have ended a little earlier than I hoped and of course I am so gutted, but I’m so grateful for all the amazing people I met, people I’ll be cheering on throughout and who I know will continue to smash it. And to my brilliant partner @nadiyabychkova , thank you so much for everything. You’ve been an amazing teacher and to have danced alongside you has been an absolute privilege.”
