Strictly Come Dancing’s Toyah Willcox dealt massive blow in run-up to Movie Week

While she secured a place in this week’s show, Toyah Willcox is now the most likely to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing.

Toyah Willcox and Neil Jones will be back in the ballroom this Saturday

The singer, 66, narrowly escaped elimination last week on the BBC One show, when she and her dancing partner Neil Jones faced Olympic swimmer Tom Dean and Nadiya Bychkova – and many fans of the competition were outraged to see make it to the next round as she was the favourite to leave the show.

This Saturday, October 5, Toyah Willcox is due back in the Strictly ballroom but odds have underlined the possibility she may not be saved again. Online bookmaker Betway has placed Toyah as favourite to leave the show this week.

Speaking to The Express this Friday, Betway spokesperson Chad Yeomans said: “Even after channelling her inner Tina Turner to avoid elimination last week, the spotlight remains firmly on Toyah Willcox as she’s still the 1/1 favourite to depart this weekend.” According to Chad, Neil’s choice of dance will likely be her downfall: “Toyah and Neil will be dancing the difficult Samba to ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ from The Little Mermaid, and many punters feel it may be a step too far for her to pull off convincingly!”

Toyah is closely followed by Paul Merson, who left many viewers scratching their heads when he also managed to earn a spot on this week’s show. “Next in the elimination betting is former footballer Paul Merson who finished last with just 15 points in week two, and now finds himself as the 3/1 second favourite to be shown the door on Sunday night.”

Betway has also placed Chris McCausland among the favourites to dazzle judges and viewers at home: “As we head into Movie Week, he’s set to jive to the Wayne’s World theme and remains the runaway favourite to win the show at 11/8.”

While fans vented on social media that Tom Dean’s elimination was a ‘fix’ and stars said the decision was ‘beyond comprehension’, Neil shared his support for his dance partner Toyah as the critics circled – but she also spoke out on the situation.

Taking to Instagram, Toyah appeared upbeat but admitted she was “overwhelmed” and insisted that it was up to her to “get it right”. Appearing in a bright red wrap top and black leggings, she said with much enthusiasm: “It’s Wednesday and I love Wednesdays because this is when Neil and I start to dance the complete dance over and over and over again. But this week, because we’re doing characterisations because we are characters from the movie The Little Mermaid, it’s another layer.

So I need to know certain lines and I need to know how to respond to them and act it while doing the Samba – one of the hardest dances I’m going to learn! So I’m really excited, I’m slightly overwhelmed but I see absolutely everything about Strictly is that I am being offered opportunity after opportunity and now it’s up to me to make the most of this and get it right!” Will she be back on the dancefloor next week?
