Princess Diana ‘s former Royal bodyguard has claimed she would have “accepted” Charles and Camilla’s relationship if she were still alive.
Ken Wharfe, who protected the mother-of-two for years while serving as a Scotland Yard officer, has opened up about his views on how Diana would have felt about her ex-husband marrying the now Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles.
His comments come as throngs of Royal enthusiasts gathered at Diana’s previous home, Kensington Palace in London, to commemorate the 27th anniversary of her death by laying flowers.
Speaking in an interview, Ken remarked: “Part of Diana’s problem was that she naively believed that the relationship with Camilla would fade away.” He continued, recalling his time with Diana from the mid-1980s: “But let’s be honest, Camilla was there from day one. Camilla from my time, I went there in the mid-1980s, was very much the discussion at the time.”

“And (with) Diana’s openness she felt it necessary to give me the complete low down of the relationship. I questioned that at the time, but actually having listened to her, it made me understand Diana a lot better. And she naively believed that it would end. There is no doubt in my mind that Diana did love Charles. I mean, she said that to me repeatedly.”
Diana tragically died at the age of 36 in a car accident in Paris on 31 August, 1997 five years after separating from then-Prince Charles, with their divorce finalised in 1996. Camilla and Charles went public with their relationship two years following the tragic car crash that claimed Diana’s life.
Mum-of-two Diana famously spoke of their tumultuous relationship during her TV tell-all with Martin Bashir, stating: “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.” Ken has voiced his opinion that Diana and Charles would not have resumed their romance even if she had lived. On potential reconciliation, he opined: “From my own experience in life, you move on and you change, you mellow slightly, and you deal with situations in a much calmer way.”
He continued to reflect: “And I’m sure Diana would have done that. She was very good at that.” Reflecting on the passage of time and its healing effects, he said: “Time, as everyone says, is a great healer. Diana was angry with the Prince of Wales, angry with her circumstances, angry with Camilla, angry with everybody.”
Nonetheless, Ken believes in change over time. He added to The Sun: “But you know you know, things heal. And as time progressed, she would have been in her 60s now, she would have accepted.”
