A catalogue from an auction of Princess Diana‘s dresses that was held just two months before her death is expected to sell for up to £5,000 later this month.

The auction took place on June 25, 1997 – just weeks before the royal passed away following a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, France.

The limited edition book from the event – where more than 79 designer gowns raised £2.57 million for charity – is expected to fetch between £3,000 to £5,000.

Purple, Moroccan leather-bound guides were created for the sale, which soon became a collector’s item.

The 250 books were all signed and personally numbered by Princess Diana and she also inscribed that the ‘wonderful’ gathering was inspired by her son Prince William, who was 15 at the time.

The number 104 catalogue will be sold alongside an official invitation to the ‘Dresses’ from the Collection of Diana, Princess of Wales’ auction, and other related papers, including the printed sale results.

Elena Jackson, vintage fashion specialist at Ewbank Auctions, described the book as a ‘treasured keepsake’ that is in ‘excellent condition’.

‘This is a wonderful reminder of what a caring person the late Princess of Wales was,’ she explained.

‘And just how skilled she was at creating an event of this type for the benefit of the vulnerable.

‘This treasured keepsake of one of the final acts of charity that she brought to the world has been kept in excellent condition and is very rare indeed’.

Luxury items from designers Louis Vuitton, Yves St Laurent and Hermès will also be going under the hammer on January 26.

Designs by leading names in British fashion, including Ossie Clark, Zandra Rhodes, and Biba will also be up for sale.

It comes after it was revealed last year that Princess Diana’s iconic ‘revenge dress’ is set to go up for auction early this year.

Worn by Diana on the same evening that the then-Prince of Wales admitted adultery on national television in June 1994, the custom-made replica of the black, off-the-shoulder dress by London-based designer Christina Stamboulian is likely to fetch between £,8,000 and £12,000.

Left Bank Pictures, the production company behind the historical drama, is selling the objects at Bonhams in February.

Taking place in London on Wednesday, February 7, the sale will come after the sixth and final series of the popular Netflix show has aired.

The first half of the sixth series of The Crown, covering the period from Diana’s death in 1997 up until the marriage of Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005, was released on Thursday, while the second part will follow on December 14.
