Meghan Markle keeps a close connection to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana by wearing pieces from her jewellery collection, gifted to her by husband Prince Harry.
When Diana died, her private jewellery was divided up between her sons, and Harry appears to have gifted many pieces from the collection to his wife Meghan during their six-year marriage. Notable pieces include an Asprey emerald cut aquarmarine ring, Cartier diamond tennis bracelet and Cartier watch as well as a diamond cross necklace, which Meghan was spotted wearing during her recent Nigeria trip alongside Harry.

Sources told Page Six that the never-before-seen necklace was gifted to Markle by her husband and was from his mother’s private collection. A source told the outlet : “Diana remains a prominent force in Harry’s life and as a result, Meghan’s. So much of his work is inspired by his mum, and it’s evident how much she still means to him. A gift to his wife that once belonged to his mother is incredibly meaningful and that isn’t lost on his wife.”
However, the cross necklace is thought to have sparked intrigue as Diana wasn’t known for wearing religious motifs, so it’s thought this piece could be a rarely worn find from the late Princess of Wales ‘ collection. Diana, who died aged 37 in August 1997, was never pictured wearing the piece of jewellery in public.

Yet the necklace is just one of many of Diana’s pieces that Meghan has been spotted in. On her wedding day six years ago, Meghan paired her evening bridal look with a piece of jewellery previously owned by her late mother-in-law. Meghan opted to accessorise her outfit with an aquamarine cocktail ring, thought to be a gift from Prince Harry to his new bride. The stunning Asprey Emerald cut aquamarine ring, surrounded by small solitaire diamonds and set in 24-carat yellow gold, was pictured on Diana in the final year before her death in 1997. on her right hand at her evening reception.
At another royal event alongside husband Prince Harry, Meghan chose to accessorise a red grown with a diamond tennis bracelet thought to be worth £17k. The diamond tennis bracelet by Cartier, which was previously owned by Diana, has been sported by Meghan on numerous occasions, including during her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. Meghan first wore the elegant jewellery during a state dinner in Fiji in 2018 and to observe Commonwealth Day in 2019. She has paired it with various outfits since.

Another Cartier piece, Princess Diana regularly wore a gold Cartier Tank Française watch for engagements in the 1990s. The watch gifted to her by her father on her 21st birthday, was believed to have been given to Meghan by her now-husband Harry in the early days of their relationship.
In 2018 during their royal tour of Australia, Meghan wore butterfly earrings which were a notable favourite of Diana’s. The pieces were thought to be a gift from Harry to mark their happy baby news after they announced they were expecting their son Archie. The Duchess paired the earrings with a gold bangle, which is also believed to come from Diana’s collection.

Meanwhile, Princess Kate has Diana’s engagement ring, a 12-carat blue oval sapphire, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, set on a white-gold band of 18 carats. The stunning ring was gifted to her by Prince William when they became engaged in 2010. However, Meghan’s engagement ring from Harry is thought to have a subtle nod to Diana too. Meghan’s ring features two diamonds from Diana’s collection and another from Botswana, where Harry does a lot of charity work. In recent years, Meghan is thought to have ‘upgraded’ her ring with changes such as replacing the yellow gold band with a delicate diamond-studded band instead.
