Huw Edwards scandal to be developed into ‘shocking’ documentary by firm behind true crime shows

The scandal of disgraced BBC presenter Huw Edwards’ fall from grace is set to be turned into a bombshell documentary, according to reports.

A documentary about Huw Edwards is reportedly being produced

The firm behind shows about Myra Hindley and Fred West is said to be ready to produce the programme and has reportedly been interviewing alleged victims of the former newsreader. The company behind the production, Blink Films, is seemingly set for a bidding war once it is complete, with Channel 4 and Netflix said to be among the frontrunners.

Ahead of the production, an insider said: “There is a long line of people who claim to have suffered as a result of Huw’s behaviour.”

They continued to tell The Sun: “This will see many of them speaking on screen for the first time and it’s likely to produce some particularly shocking new revelations.”

The company has already produced to documentaries that have aired on ITV. One focused on serial killers Fred and Rose West, while another showed the awful case of child murderer Myra Hindley.

The apparent Edwards documentary comes just a month after the former BBC man, 63, was given a suspended jail sentence. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court last month for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children in July. The disgraced presenter was given just six months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a requirement to complete a sex offender programme.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring also declined to make him the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, saying he “did not pose a risk to the public”. He said, however, that Edwards would be on the Sexual Offenders’ Register for seven years.

Mr Goldspring told the ex-News at Ten presenter: “The impact of child sexual abuse can be severe and lifelong.” He then told Edwards his “reputation is in tatters,” while starting his sentencing remarks. Mr Goldspring said: “Perhaps it does not need saying that you are of previous good character having enjoyed a very successful career in the media You were highly regarded for your dedication and professionalism, perhaps the most recognised journalist in the UK. Your reputation is in tatters.”

He went on: “I accept that your mental health at the relevant time and you had no memory of viewing any particular image and do not know whether you did. You did not store the images, you did not keep them and you did not distribute them.”

The sentence came after father-of-five was arrested in November 2023 following the findings of South Wales Police that he had been involved in a sick WhatsApp conversation with convicted paedophile Alex Williams, 25. The felon was said to have sent Edwards 41 images of child abuse between December 2020 and August 2021. Seven of the indecent images were Category A, which is the worst category of its kind.
