Inter Miami president David Beckham and co-owners Jorge Mas and Jose Mas completed the signing of talented midfielder Federico Redondo, 21, son of former player Fernando Redondo, last week.
However, Federico Redondo was still unable to play in Inter Miami’s match against LA Galaxy (1-1 draw) on February 26.
“Federico Redondo is completely fine. He has just finished the 2024 Olympic qualifiers with the Argentina U.23 team, so he is in perfect physical condition.
We have been monitoring and observing Federico Redondo very closely, he will soon train with the first team.
The delay in his ability to play is due to paperwork issues, not due to physical problems or changes in environment,”
coach Tata Martino explained, in response to questions from the American press after Inter Miami drew LA Galaxy away on February 26.
According to AS (Spain): “Federico Redondo will soon complete the paperwork this week. Inter Miami Club President David Beckham has good relationships with the MLS organizing committee, so this is not too big of a problem.
Even from the impact on the promotion of Inter Miami Club and the influence of Messi, as well as through the recruitment of Federico Redondo as a promising talent, American football officials met this week to discuss plans to change the transfer rules, allowing clubs to spend more money to buy top stars to the MLS”.
Federico Redondo signed a contract with Inter Miami under the “MLS U.22 Initiative” for youth teams, including a term until 2027 and an option to extend the following year. The contract value is 8 million USD, but if the team of former player David Beckham transfers Federico Redondo in the future, they will have to pay back 15% of the value to the player’s old club, Argentinos Juniors (Argentina).
Federico Redondo also said that choosing to join Inter Miami is to play alongside famous player Messi as he dreamed.
This dream is about to come true, when Federico Redondo will definitely be promoted to the Inter Miami first team and can play in the match against Orlando City SC at 4:30 a.m. on March 3, in the third round of the 2024 MLS tournament. After this match, Inter Miami will enter the regional arena with the first leg of the round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Nashville SC (USA) or Moca (Dominican Republic) at 9:00 a.m. on March 8.
Therefore, the addition of Federico Redondo to the Inter Miami squad will strengthen the team, helping former player David Beckham’s team aim to conquer championships including MLS, CONCACAF Champions Cup, Leagues Cup and US Open Cup.
