Bookies had suspended betting on the pair splitting after wild gossip circulated among thousands of Twitter and Facebook users that they were set to announce the end of their marriage.

But a spokeswoman for 44-year-old Spice Girl Posh told The Sun it was untrue.

She said: “There is no statement due, no divorce, and a lot of Chinese whispers and fake social media news.

“This is all very bizarre and an embarrassing waste of time.”

A spokesman for ex-England ace David, 43, then described the rumour as “laughable” — adding: “It’s a crock of s**t.

Bookmakers then fanned the flames still further by suspending betting on a break-up.

A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “We’ve decided to suspend betting on the separation between Posh and Becks.”

William Hill’s spokesman said: “The rumour mill has gone mad and we think there is probably something in this.”

But fashion designer Victoria had addressed the rumours by posting a gushing Instagram ­message to her hubby, who is in China at a football summit.

Writing alongside a snap of herself with their youngest child — six-year-old Harper — she said: “Morning cuddles x So much love. We love and miss u @davidbeckham.”

In January The Sun revealed the couple’s marriage was under strain over David’s decision to create a football team in Miami, where he would be based while the family remained in London.

A source told us at the time that Posh was “seething, devastated and furious”.

In January last year, David dismissed the idea they were together only because of their earning potential.

He told Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs: “People have talked about, ‘Do we stay together because it’s a brand?’
