David and Victoria Beckham plan ‘super cellar’ to store 3,000 bottles of wine at £6m Cotswolds home

DAVID and Victoria Beckham are getting into the Christmas spirit by building a wine “super-cellar” to house 3,000 bottles of plonk.

In the last couple of years, the family have spent Christmas at their £6m Grade II listed converted barn in the Cotswolds – and next year looks to be even merrier.

Posh and Becks asked West Oxfordshire District Council if they could amend the original plans to create a wine cellar underneath their garage, which would be linked to the main house by an underground tunnel.

But now they want to abandon the idea of a below-level passageway and make the plonk basement bigger, measuring 117.5 sq metres instead of 81 sq metres.

This is the equivalent of a cellar approximately 36 x 36 ft – big enough to store 7,315 bottles of vino!

According to the Royal Institute of British Architects 2011 The Case for Space Report, it will be bigger than the average size of a three-bed newbuild home in the UK, which is 88 sq metres.

Access to the cellar will be from a staircase next to the garage, which is also being extended to fit in four of their luxury motors.

The Design and Access Statement says that the new plans will have only a minor affect on their original application, which was approved in June, stating: “The proposed changes include some amendments to the arrangement of the doors, windows, rooflights and flues of the approved garage outbuilding.

“The proposed amendments are minor in nature and do not affect neighbouring properties or have any impact on the setting of the adjacent listed building.”

The pair have also been given approval to build a gatehouse for their 24-hour security guards and a 91-metre lake, which they now want to extend and plonk an island in the middle of it.

They began working on the lake in September and  face a race against time to get the beauty spot built.

The Sun previously revealed that the couple had been warned that workers can only be on site between August and February to protect nesting birds.

That means if the work isn’t complete by February 2021, the workers will have to stand down for six months.

Posh and Becks had to file a raft of reports on how the water feature will be lit and managed before work was allowed to start, and they were also required to carry out a bat survey.

Victoria Beckham gives rare glimpse into family’s Christmas with matching PJs, David cooking lunch and festive songs

The Beckhams spent much of the year in their Cotswolds home after deciding to spend the bulk of the UK’s lockdown in the countryside instead of London.

David and Victoria enjoyed months of quality family time with their three youngest children; 18-year-old Romeo, 15-year-old Cruz, and nine-year-old Harper.

Oldest son Brooklyn also returned to the home in the summer with his new fiancée Nicola Peltz having previously isolated with her family in the US.

However, couple are now back in America – with Victoria “devastated” that they plan to spend Christmas overseas with the actress’ family instead of in England.
