Coronation Street to air sinister discovery on Joel’s laptop – and it’s bad news for DS Swain

Coronation Street airs a sinister twist next week, as the data from missing Joel Deering’s laptop reveals a dark murder plot.

It could end badly for DS Swain for a number of reasons, as the discovery is linked to her and her daughter Betsy Swain. Viewers know Betsy blackmailed Joel for money weeks ago, and soon she got caught up in his crimes.

Betsy confessed to her mother and the police recently that he got her to call up a health clinic and pretend she needed abortion pills. He later used these pills to try and kill Lauren Bolton’s baby son Frankie, with Frankie born prematurely and left unwell.

Joel went missing this week after his crimes came to light with him headed for court. The police found his car abandoned and a note, with him also leaving ex Dee-Dee Bailey a message on her phone.

The police think Joel has taken his own life, but viewers are convinced he isn’t dead or that if he is, someone has killed him. Amid Dee-Dee speculating he’s on the run, a discovery by Kit Green next week leaves him and Swain reeling.

Lisa is called into the office by colleague Kit who says the data from Joel’s laptop they obtained has been retrieved, and sent over to him. Something he has found on the laptop has worried him, and soon Lisa is left gasping and on the verge of tears over what she sees.

In a preview clip for Monday’s episode, Kit tells Swain she has to see what he’s found and that it’s linked to Betsy. There are text messages discovered, with a thread between Joel and Swain’s daughter.

Swain is visibly reeling as she reads them, and it reveals Joel threatened to murder her daughter. He tells Betsy he will kill her for her betrayal, after she told the police about the pills.

Betsy tells him she isn’t scared and that her mum is a police officer. It’s then that Joel warns: “She can’t help you if you’re dead,” sending teen Betsy death threats – threats that she never told her mum.

Swain lets out a gasp, horrified about the messages and the fact if Joel had done as he had threatened to, she could have lost her daughter. It’s surely not going to end well if Joel is alive – could he come after Betsy or even Lisa?

Dead or not, could the messages lead to Swain being at risk on the case now that she’s heavily linked to it? Might she be thrown off it? Also there’s the fact that fans think she may have killed Joel after she was shown in pain this week, so could she already have known about the texts, and might this be her motive?
