Coronation Street Joel Deering discovery leaves character reeling as truth about death ‘revealed’

Dee-Dee Bailey may be proven right as a bombshell discovery will put Joel Deering’s supposed death into question next week.

Could Joel Deering have gone on the run?

After tormenting Lauren Bolton and forcing her to secretly flee from Coronation Street, the duty solicitor played by Calum Lill was exposed for his vile deeds, leading him to be charged and lose his fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), who has been relentlessly working to bring him to justice.

But in recent scenes of the ITV soap, Joel vanished from the cobbles and on Monday (September 30), DS Lisa Swain broke the news to Dee-Dee that Joel had most likely committed suicide after finding a note in his abandoned car, on the outskirts of Weatherfield.

However, Dee-Dee refused to believe Joel was really dead, particularly after finding his getaway car near the spot his vehicle had been found and spoilers have confirmed there’s a chance she and fans who have agreed with her could be right.

In scenes due to air, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), downloads the files from Joel’s laptop and he is horrified by what he finds, which prompts him to call Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) to offer an update. However, later on, Kit admits he’s struggling to make any headway with the Joel Deering case.

Luckily for him, Dee-Dee soon brings him some news and it could help him in his efforts to bring Joel to justice. In the cafe, the solicitor confides in Kit that she phoned the wedding venue and the holiday company to find out that Joel has already recouped their deposits – the perfect money plan for a criminal on the run?

Viewers of the Manchester-based programme have speculated that Kit Green could be Joel’s secret accomplice for several weeks. On Twitter, now X, theories swirled as one user speculated, “Looks like Joel gonna be back for xmas revenge storyline #Corrie”, while another declared, “#Corrie ah yes – Joel faking his death! ” A third suggested, “Kit has a hand in this Joel business. Mark my words. #corrie” Another voiced distrust: “Kit helped orchestrate that #corrie” and yet another expressed scepticism, “Don’t trust Kit at all… #corrie.”

Calum Lill was announced to be on his way out of Weatherfield during the summer. The former Hollyoaks actor joined the ITV soap last year as the duty solicitor and a new love interest for Dee-Dee Bailey and while he made a good impression on the fan favourite, viewers were immediately suspicious of him.

In recent months, it was then revealed that soap fans were right to doubt him as he was the cause of Lauren Bolton’s disappearance, tormenting the cash-strapped teen and fathering her new-born son. It has now been confirmed that the storyline will culminate in Joel’s exit from Weatherfield as the actor has quit the long-running show.

“Calum has made a huge impact as Joel over the last year but he always knew it would be for a fixed term”, a source told The Sun. Calum’s last scenes in the Manchester-based programme are due to air in the coming months as the insider continued: “He’s been great playing Joel but all good soap villains must get their comeuppance and Joel’s is coming very soon.” But has he gone on the run never to be heard from again?
