Big Brother 2024: First look at brand new Diary Room chair as illness threatens ITV launch show

It’s almost time for a new series of Big Brother and a brand new Diary Room chair is waiting for the new batch of 16 new housemates.

The Mirror enjoyed a tour of the Big Brother house in London on Friday, offering a sneak peek before the grand launch on Sunday and now, as fans count down the hours until the new series, ITV have also shared a snapshot from inside the Diary Room.

In line with the rest of the house, the chair is vibrant and colourful, perfectly complementing the new Big Brother eye. It’s a kaleidoscope of colours, featuring blue, pink, orange, and yellow, with melted dripping plastic creating a puddle effect on the floor.

Don’t be deceived by its appearance – the chair is massive and extremely comfortable, making it the ideal spot for contestants to sit and contemplate their nominations.

Big Brother’s upcoming season debut might be missing its star hosts, as Will Best and AJ Odudu are both feeling under the weather. Will and the former Strictly Come Dancing star could possibly sit out the premiere this Sunday due to illness. During a chat on Capital Breakfast Thursday, Will shared an update on their health struggles just days before the new series kicks off.

Detailing his own woes, he said: “I’ve got a stiff neck. It’s a bit better today, yesterday was bad, I’ve got an emergency physio in a couple of hours after this.” Lampooning the timing, he quipped: “It’s always good to just before the biggest show of the year, when you’re going to be live for six weeks, with all kinds of mad stuff, to not be able to move.” Moreover, he disclosed AJ’s battle with a hoarse voice: “AJ’s lost her voice as well. I saw her yesterday, we did a podcast record. That’s why she’s not doing radio today.”

Will has previously committed to delivering a Big Brother season that outshines all others. Expressing his anticipation, he remarked to The Sun: “I’m excited about the tasks, I think the tasks this year, maybe some learning not learning as that makes it sound like there were things that could have been better as the tasks were phenomenal last series. But I’ve been speaking to a few members of the team and I think they’ve raised the bar even further this series. I think the tasks have been taken up a notch.”

Set to kick off on Sunday night, the latest series will track a varied band of Brits under round-the-clock observation for 36 days straight. Last year’s champion was 26 year old legal whizz Jordan Sangha from Scunthorpe. His connection with fellow contestant Henry Southan flourished into love after the show. Their relationship turned romantic post-show, following their close-knit journey during the 20th season watched by fans. Having hinted at potential wedding bells earlier in summer, Henry playfully told The Sun in August: “Who knows, I love him to bits.”
