During the show, the Hold The Sunset star discussed getting into drama school, filming Gavin and Stacey for the final time and whether she would be watching the Christmas finale.

Alison told the hosts that she had loved every minute of filming.

She said: ‘[It was] so emotional because we all love filming it so much and we had a great time being back together, and that final wrap…’

She added that the show had been a big part of her life and she would miss it dearly.

She also described the fan chaos as they filmed in South Wales.

The star told Alison and Dermot that hundreds of fans gathered at the filming locations to catch a glimpse of the cast in character.

This Morning’s Alison then asked the Shirley Valentine actress whether she was ready for the popularity of the BBC sitcom when it first came out.

Alison confessed: ‘Well I knew when I first read the script it was really good, I just knew it was tops but you can’t anticipate it’s going to be as popular as it is.

‘But gradually as things were moving along, I thought “this is really going places”‘.

And the star proved that the show is just as popular in her home as it is with the rest of the UK.

She confirmed she would be watching the special on Christmas day, revealing she hadn’t seen it yet because they only finished filming on Monday.

She then let slip that there would be a cast and crew screening for everyone to watch it together.

Larry Lamb admits to losing voice because of Gavin and Stacey party

Larry said filming the finale was ‘so emotional’ as he teased a ‘beautiful’ ending to the series.

He admitted the process was even more poignant than usual because they shot the final scenes on the last days of filming.

He said: ‘It was a trip down memory lane. Because suddenly there we are, and we’re facing the fact that effectively this is the end of this adventure – it’s the end of this journey and it was so emotional.

‘On the last day of filming, we were filming the end of the story which is so unusual because nine times out of ten you find that you’re doing the end on the first day and you’re doing the beginning right at the end of it all.

‘So what we were filming was the end of the story on the very last day and there was just this mental tick, tick, tick going on all the time and the emotions just kept building and building and building … [the ending] is just beautiful.’

Gavin and Stacey co-creators James and Ruth shocked the nation earlier this year by revealing the programme is to return for a finale, which will be the first episode since a 2019 Christmas special.

While the upcoming Christmas special has been widely billed as the last-ever episode, Larry admitted he would be up for starring in another episode.
