Gorgeous in Green

Long coats have been a staple of Meghan Markle’s maternity wardrobe all winter long, but one was a total throwback to Princess Diana while she was expecting. Meghan completely channeled her late mother-in-law in a green Erdem jacket with floral appliques – just like one Diana wore during a visit to Bristol while pregnant with her first son, Prince William.

Blue and Belted

The Duchess of Sussex stunned during an appearance in Tonga back in October, wearing a sky blue shirt dress with a tie around her waist by Veronica Beard. The look was reminiscent of Princess Diana, who wore a similar dress – same length and belted waist! – about a month after William was born in 1982.

Meghan has worn stripes on several occasions during her pregnancy, like this green dress she sported in Tonga. Princess Diana also rocked stripes while expecting, including a red and white dress she wore to Wimbledon while pregnant with Prince Harry.

Meghan can’t get enough of her black jackets, and Princess Diana sported a similar look while preparing to welcome her first son.

Although Meghan’s go-to neckline has taken a backseat during the winter months, she sported a black off-the-shoulder dress during her visit to New Zealand with Harry. Princess Diana also rocked a bare shoulder look – in a gorgeous white and purple gown by Bellville Sassoon. (Diana famously dozed off during this outing – and it was revealed the following day that there was a good reason: she was pregnant!)

Princess Diana looked lovely in white during an outing at the Royal Academy while she was pregnant with Prince Harry. Holding hands with Harry as a father-to-be, Meghan channeled the look in a white evening gown in Tonga – and paid tribute to Diana by wearing her mother-in-law’s aquamarine ring!

Polka dots are a classic pattern, and both Meghan and Diana incorporated the style into their maternity wear. Meghan wore a spotted burgundy dress during her royal tour of Australia, while Princess Diana chose a green number by Catherine Walker while pregnant with William.

Meghan made a statement during a state dinner in Fiji during her royal tour in a blue caped gown. Diana also knew that blue was a perfect color for evening glam during her pregnancy, wearing a light blue dress for the 1984 London premiere of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
