Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming trip to Nigeria this month could backfire as the British public “sees through” their plans, claims a royal author.

Speaking to Sky News Australia, royal author, Phil Dampier thinks Harry and Meghan are doing more harm than good with their visit to Africa by confusing the public.

He explains: “It’s ironic that the late Queen wanted Harry and Meghan to very much be her ambassadors throughout the Commonwealth and spread goodwill among its fifty or so nations, but they didn’t want to do it as royals.”

The royal expert added: “They are in effect trying to set up a rival court, their own royal roadshow, and I think people can see through it.”

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that the Sussexes will be heading to Nigeria in May. During their visit, they will meet with Service members and participate in a range of cultural activities.

Prince Harry is first set to visit the UK next week for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games – a sporting event for injured and sick military personnel and veterans. He will be at the service of thanksgiving at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8, where he is expected to give a reading.

Prince Harry’s arrival to the UK for the Invictus Games will mark his first time in the country since he visited his father for quick-stop visit in February when King Charles’s cancer was announced.

The King has recently returned to royal public duties after responding well to his cancer treatment and medical staff have been “encouraged” by the progress made so far.
