  • James Gunn’s extreme measures for his DCU team should be a wake-up call for Kevin Feige

James Gunn’s extreme measures for his DCU team should be a wake-up call for Kevin Feige

Kevin Feige’s Spider-Man 4 has lots of discussion ongoing, even before a script is ready for the film

James Gunn has been active on social media, posting regular updates about the DCU. He recently announced the beginning of filming of Superman and the casting of Milly Alcock as Supergirl. Besides the Superman and Supergirl films, one other project that audiences expect an update on is the announced The Authority project. When a fan asked about the casting of the film, Gunn had a perfect response that Kevin Feige should take note for the MCU.

James Gunn’s announced DCU project The Authority has no casting updates and he explains why (credits: DC Comics)

Gunn shared that the casting wouldn’t be announced unless the film has a finished script. Gunn shared that DCU prioritized quality first over other things. Meanwhile, the MCU is struggling to fix a script, director, or start date for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4.

James Gunn Schools Kevin Feige’s MCU, Saying DCU Prioritizes Quality First

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn says DCU prioritizes quality over everything else

James Gunn‘s Superman is currently filming and other projects like Creature Commandos and Waller will reach the audience before the David Corenswet-led film. The script work for Supergirl is currently underway and the writer of the film, Ana Nogueira, is also tasked with the script of the newly announced Teen Titans movie.

However, one of the DCU’s initially announced projects, The Authority, has yet to receive a major update, including the cast of the film. One member of The Authority team, Angela Spica aka the Engineer, will appear in Gunn’s Superman film. María Gabriela de Faría was cast in the role, making her the only announced casting in The Authority.

One fan asked the Guardians of the Galaxy director about the casting of the rest of the members of The Authority. Gunn replied that The Authority film has yet to receive a finished script. The production of the film and the casting will kick off only after the script gets greenlit. Gunn also added that it was the reason why some DCU projects were moving faster than others from their originally announced slate.

Gunn also threw a subtle shade at Kevin Feige’s MCU when he suggested that it was always going to be quality first for the DCU. The Suicide Squad director may have been hinting at Marvel Studios scrambling for a director for Spider-Man 4 when they couldn’t even agree upon a script for the film with Sony. Gunn shared via Threads:

“We won’t green light a film until we have a finished script we’re happy with and in general, we won’t cast a film until the script is finished. This is why some projects are moving faster than anticipated and others more slowly. It’s always gonna be quality first no matter what”

Earlier, it was rumored that Argylle director Matthew Vaughn will helm the film for the DCU. Vaughn reportedly dropped out from directing the next iteration of the James Bond films to join Gunn’s DCU.

    Kevin Feige’s Spider-Man 4 Production Is Troubled

Kevin Feige could use James Gunn’s lesson for his Spider-Man 4

Kevin Feige could use a lesson or two from James Gunn’s DCU, especially when it comes to the ‘quality first’ aspect. While other films in the MCU have their fair share of issues, one of the biggest headaches for the studio currently is their joint venture with Sony, Spider-Man 4. A script for the project is still in development, with both the MCU and SSU entering a tug-of-war regarding the setting of the film.

Jon Watts, the director of the earlier three films, has no part in this drama as he departed from the Spider-Man films last year. Other directors are considered for the film, which has no script or start date in place. Drew Goddard and Justin Lin are the frontrunners for directing the film, while some rumors also suggest that Sony is trying to convince Jon Watts to return for the fourth film.

While The Authority and Spider-Man 4 await further updates, James Gunn’s Superman will hit theaters on July 11, 2025, making it the first theatrical DCU film.

  • What The 3 Fan-Favorite DCU Batman Candidates Have Said About The Role

What The 3 Fan-Favorite DCU Batman Candidates Have Said About The Role

The Brave and the Bold, the DC Universe’s Batman reboot, has seen many actors rumored for Bruce Wayne, and three of them have become popular picks.

James Gunn’s new DC Universe is casting or will cast several of the comic book giant’s biggest heroes and villains, including Batman, and three actors have emerged as the fan-favorites for the role, with all of them commenting on the opportunity. Ben Affleck was the Dark Knight of the DCEU, with Michael Keaton and George Clooney returning as their versions of Bruce Wayne for the multiversal The Flash movie. Currently, the only ongoing live-action Batman actor is Robert Pattinson. However, the star will not be brought into the new DCU.

Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne for director Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II and more, but the franchise exists as an Elseworlds, meaning it is not canon to the DCU. Due to that, a new actor will take on the role of the Dark Knight in The Brave and the Bold movie. The Batman reboot will finally bring Robin to the big screen once again, with Damian Wayne and other members of the Bat-Family confirmed to appear. With casting for the new Batman in the future, three actors have been appointed by fans as perfect for the role.

Jensen Ackles Said Batman Is His Favorite Superhero

The Supernatural Star Has A Long History With Batman

While multiple names have come up as possible candidates to play the DCU’s version of Bruce Wayne, the most popular name currently for the role of Batman is Jensen Ackles. The actor is no stranger to the franchise, having been an important part of Batman’s animated legacy for some time. Ackles voiced Jason Todd/Red Hood in 2010’s Batman: Under the Red Hood, which is held highly as one of the best movies for the character. Recently, Ackles became the voice of Batman in DC’s animated Tomorrowverse continuity.

As the fan-favorite for the role, Ackles has been a fixture of multiple rumors regarding the film, which led to DCU creative chief James Gunn even denying once that Ackles had been cast as Batman, explaining that the script for The Brave and the Bold had yet to be finished, and Batman would be cast only after that. Still, Ackles remains a popular name for the role. Due to that, the star has been asked multiple times if he would want to be part of the franchise, and he has made his stance on the matter clear.

James Gunn has been very active on social media as DC Studios’ co-CEO, and he has debunked several major DCU rumors about Superman, Batman, and more.

Ackles has addressed his DCU Batman casting chances, saying, “I don’t know. Even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you. I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I wanna do it? Yes.” He then went on to joke about the situation before giving a definitive answer, saying, “Would I entertain the idea of playing my favorite superhero of all time? Nah, I’m good… I would love it. Sign me up.” With Ackles the fan-favorite for the DCU’s Batman and the actor being passionate about the role, he seems like a great fit; however, other major candidates could complicate things.

Alan Ritchson Fell In Love With Batman As A Child

Ritchson Has Played DC Superheroes Before

Alan Ritchson has become a popular candidate to become the new DC Universe’s Batman. After the release of Prime Video’s Reacher season 2, the actor received a major boost in popularity, with many comparing scenes where his character, Jack Reacher, acted as a detective or violently interrogated criminals to Batman, and given how popular the show is and the level of performance Ritchson turns in, it would not be a major surprise if the actor gets cast to play Batman. Ritchson also has the imposing physique to take to Gotham City’s rooftops.

Aiding his chances to play Batman is the fact that Ritchson has plenty of experience with DC in live-action.

Following rumors that he could be eyed for the coveted DCU role, Ritchson responded to getting fancast as Batman. The actor is honored to be considered by fans as a candidate for Batman, with Ritchson having revealed that he shares a childhood connection to the DC hero, saying, “It’s one of the first characters I fell in love with as a child.” While Ritchson acknowledges that he might be too old — 41 — to give life to the character, he would love to play Batman, saying, “It’s one of the coolest characters of all time.”

Aiding his chances to play Batman is the fact that Ritchson has plenty of experience with DC in live-action. The actor first played a superhero in Smallville, giving life to a young Aquaman in the Superman prequel series. Ritchson’s time as one of DC’s biggest heroes shows he would be able to do right by Batman. Adding to that, the actor played Hawk, a hilarious brawler of a superhero, in a few seasons of DC’s Titans series. The two roles were very different but helped show that Ritchson is adept at making his superheroes compelling and charismatic.

Jake Gyllenhaal Would Be Honored To Be The DCU’s Batman

Gyllenhaal Almost Played Batman In The Past

The latest actor to comment on possibly playing the DCU’s Batman in The Brave and the Bold and future projects on DC’s slate is Jake Gyllenhaal. The actor was already a popular pick among fans for the role, with Gyllenhaal’s filmography including multiple dark or physical roles that show why he would excel as the new Batman if given the chance. Now, Gyllenhaal has directly addressed his chances of playing DC’s new Batman, and to the fans’ delight, the actor is open if the opportunity arises.

During an interview with Screen Rant, Gyllenhaal got candid about possibly becoming the next actor to play Batman in live-action. The actor started by saying, “That’s a classic. It’s an honor.” Gyllenhaal then compared the long list of actors who have played Batman in live-action to other famous characters who have been played by different stars over decades, such as the character of Iago in Othello, whom Gyllenhaal will play. According to Gyllenhaal, he would be honored to play Batman, saying, “It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.”

After the repercussions of the initial interview, Gyllenhaal doubled down on his Batman casting comments. According to the star, it is flattering to be in the conversation to play DC’s Dark Knight, saying, “Of course, I would be flattered. Anyone would be.” Gyllenhaal almost played Batman in the past, which could help him secure the role in the DCU. The actor was one of the names considered for the role of Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins, with director Christopher Nolan himself calling Gyllenhaal to tell him Christian Bale won the role in the end.

Why Jensen Ackles Is The Perfect Batman For The New DC Universe

The Actor Is An All-Around Perfect Choice For The Role

    Custom image by Sean Migalla

While Alan Ritchson and Jake Gyllenhaal would each bring exciting elements to the table as the DCU’s Batman, Jensen Ackles is the best option to suit up as the Dark Knight for the new shared universe. Ackles has the looks to play Bruce Wayne and the acting skills to bring both sides of the character — the billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne and the tortured detective Batman — to life. Ackles’ role as Dean Winchester in Supernatural showed that he is perfect for the DC hero.

Adding to his dark but charismatic turn in The CW series, Ackles’ more recent time as Soldier Boy in The Boys was proof that the actor could excel in a superhero property, with Ackles commanding the screen with his acting and ability to deliver engaging fight scenes. The actor is also the current voice of Batman in the animated Tomorrowverse, showcasing his talents to portray Batman in live-action. While the star is a great fit for Batman, casting for the hero is still some time away, as The Brave and the Bold’s script is still not finalized.

  • Lynda Carter Makes a Bold Claim About Wonder Woman 3 That James Gunn Must Address Soon to Avoid Controversy

Lynda Carter Makes a Bold Claim About Wonder Woman 3 That James Gunn Must Address Soon to Avoid Controversy

As James Gunn is busy building his DCU, original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter makes some audacious remarks on the character’s future.

Gal Gadot might have replaced Lynda Carter as the iconic superhero Wonder Woman, but Carter will forever be remembered for the role. Known best for the role as well as her advocacy for many crucial causes, the actress and singer returned to the land of DC in Wonder Woman 2.

Gal Gadot in and as Wonder Woman

Needless to say, fans were elated to have her, even though it was Gadot who donned the lasso of truth. Slated to appear in a third part as well, the threequel has been long dead. And while there has been no news of the character in James Gunn’s version of DC, Carter made some bold claims about Diana Prince which James Gunn should address soon to avoid any controversy.

Lynda Carter on the Fate of Wonder Woman in DC

Lynda Carter in and as Wonder Woman

Lynda Carter starred as the DC superhero from 1976 to 1979. And it was her charismatic portrayal that made the character popular. While Gal Gadot took over years after in Zack Snyder’s DCEU, Carter returned as the warrior Asteria in Wonder Woman 1984 and was also slated to be a part of the threequel.

After much anticipation and rumors, the threequel to the Gadot-starrer flick has been dead since 2020, despite James Gunn apparently promising Gadot that she would be brought back someday (see Variety). And now while talking to Yahoo Entertainment, the former Diana Prince stated the following about the fate of Wonder Woman in DCU,

“I don’t think they want to do it unless there’s enough pressure from fans. I just don’t think they have the mind to do it.”

Even Petty Jenkins, the director of both Wonder Woman movies, seemed to have made similar claims in an old X post and more recently while on the Talking Pictures Podcast. While the new head of DC, James Gunn has not made any comments about Jenkins or Carter’s comments, he must soon to avoid any potential controversy regarding the character or its inclusion within the DCU.

Fans React To Lynda Carter’s Comments about Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot in a still from Wonder Woman 1984

Lynda Carter described Wonder Woman as a fan-favorite character and that the movies starring Gal Gadot were a great franchise. While it is true that the character is well-loved and fans appreciated Gadot’s portrayal, the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, was a much-criticized feature (see Rotten Tomatoes).

And so after Carter’s comments went viral, fans, unlike how Carter would have wanted, seemed uninterested in the franchise or its now canceled threequel.

As the fans’ ‘uproar’ continues, James Gunn is busy rebooting the DCU. While there has been no announcement of the character making its way into his universe, a prequel series before the birth of Diana Prince is in the making titled Paradise Lost.

Meanwhile, Gadot’s Wonder Woman movies can be streamed on Max.

  • Suicide Squad First Impressions: Here’s What DC Fans Have To Say!

Suicide Squad First Impressions: Here’s What DC Fans Have To Say!

Why Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League Season 1 Flopped?

Not even The Joker can save Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad

Since Suicide Squad Season 1 has launched, fans have been very vocal on social media about their dislike on the update.

Holding out for the past two months, hoping this new update would bring new life to Suicide Squad, for it to only cause more frustration within the community.

The update itself includes a number of changes, including new missions, weapons, skins, and, of course, the Elseworld Joker. Rocksteady also balanced certain gameplay mechanics to make it more streamline and fixed a ton of bugs.

Despite what it may look on the surface, Season 1 of Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has not provided much to the players who expected more from this update. There are no new story missions, Joker isn’t unlocked at the start, and there’s more grinding.

To unlock Joker, players must first reach Season Rank 35, which will require them to grind out 15 to 20 missions. For Rocksteady to not have the Joker unlockable at the start is bizarre, to say the least. On top of the lack of new story content, this update was destined to fail.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League Season 1 Fan Reactions

Fans are upset and angry over Suicide Squad‘s Season 1 update

DC fans have taken to social media to discuss the problem plaguing Season 1 of Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. Paul Tassi, Senior Contributor for Forbes, has stated how bad this update is by listing off its problems, such as no story missions, grinding 20 missions to unlock Joker, and the reuse of old content.

Other fans have taken to Reddit and shared their disappointment with Suicide Squad Season 1. Outright calling this new update “baffling” and calling Warner Bros. Games the new EA.

There are countless other DC fans voicing their frustrations at r/SuicideSquadGaming where Rocksteady Studios has fumbled the ball. Only time will tell if Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has any more life in it as future updates get released.

  • James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy Just Received a New, Most Unimaginative Title

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy Just Received a New, Most Unimaginative Title

Here’s to hoping the entire DC reboot won’t be as bland as the movie’s new name.

The DCEU hasn’t been doing exactly great in the past… Many years, to put it lightly. After the most embarrassing series of flops, enough was enough, and the entire cinematic universe was passed over to new heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran, who immediately announced its complete reboot.

Superman: Legacy was supposed to be the first official movie of the new DCU, but in his recent update, Gunn casually revealed that the film’s title had been changed… And we can’t say it was a change for the better, really.

Gunn’s New Superman Name Is Just Lame

Recently, James Gunn gave an update on Superman: Legacy on his Instagram page, announcing the start of filming. Apart from that, the director revealed that Superman: Legacy wasn’t even called that anymore: the title had been changed.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29. <…> When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025,” Gunn wrote in his post.

A movie about Superman called Superman but in all caps? That’s quite an…uncreative creative choice. The previous title, Superman: Legacy, had substance to it and felt like something that would, indeed, begin a new era of DC. But names aside, it’s the end result that counts, and we’re hoping that the title change will remain the only creative loss the upcoming movie suffers from.

Fans Are Optimistic about New Superman

Batman knows the DC cinematic universe has been in dire need of a reboot, and Gunn and Safran can become its absolute saviors. Considering the former’s track record at Marvel, fans are expecting the new DC co-head to perform a miracle.

The news of the new Superman movie starting production saw fans cheer, praising the director for “bringing DC back to life.” Prematurely so, of course, but the excitement is palpable, and no title change is enough to stomp the audience’s high hopes. James Gunn and Peter Safran have the full support of fans, so they ought to aim high and shoot even higher with Superman: Leg… Sorry, just Superman.

  • Steven Spielberg Sparks Concern Among Fans by Stepping Back from Sequel to 2018 Sci-Fi Blockbuster

Steven Spielberg Sparks Concern Among Fans by Stepping Back from Sequel to 2018 Sci-Fi Blockbuster

Will Player as ready as the first time he entered the game?

Six years ago, Ready Player One, a science fiction action film based on the novel by Ernest Cline, presented a futuristic world where people prefer to escape in a virtual reality program called Oasis and fight for the prize, the clues for which were left by its rich founder. It marked Steven Spielberg’s successful directorial return to teen-oriented fantastic movies, grossing $607 million worldwide with a budget of $155-175 million.

The movie was remarkably filled with allusions to pop culture entities, which were partly present in the original book, while others were added deliberately for the movie, as its creators gained rights for callbacks to DCU, Stephen King ’s novels and other IPs.

Given the second novel, Ready Player Two, released in 2020, as the movie’s success left its author no chance but to continue the fantastic story of the Oasis, Warner Bros. didn’t forget about their massive sci-fi success, having the sequel already in the works.

In a recent interview at the Oppenheimer Oscars party, Spielberg was asked about the continuation of his banger movie, he stated it’s already in active development by the WB studio, even though he is only involved as a producer, stepping aside from its direction.

It’s quite a curious and at the same time disappointing update, as Spielberg handed over his director’s chair only twice before: in the third movie of the Jurassic Park franchise and in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which both came out controversial.

Fans, wondering why the acclaimed director made such a decision, claim that such distancing can be presumably caused by the poor content of the overlong second book, which can result in the low quality and eventual flop of its adaptation too.

When the news about the development of Ready Player Two was aired, the idea of it gained lots of criticism, mostly regarding the negative reception of the second novel.

“No no no… <…> It’s a parody of itself and it’s just poorly written and does an injustice to the first novels material,” expressed fans’ worries the X-user @crisiscrespo.

Though such a concern among the sci-fi lovers’ community is quite reasonable, it’s necessary to remember that the first movie altered some aspects of the novel adapting it, so nothing prevents the creators of Ready Player Two from making a decent sequel.

Ready Player One is now available for watching on Netflix .

  • The Star of Prime’s Top Show Comes Clean About His Viral Workout Photo

The Star of Prime’s Top Show Comes Clean About His Viral Workout Photo

Invincible’s J.K. Simmons reveals the truth behind his pumped up form.

The second part of Invincible Season 2 recently premiered on Prime, starring the acclaimed J.K. Simmons, who voiced Nolan Grayson aka Omni-Man – the most powerful superhero on the planet and the father of the main character, who is only developing his powers.

In this connection, the actor’s 2016 photo, featuring him strongly jacked in the timeline of filming his Justice League and evoking a back-then Internet sensation, has resurfaced – remember those times?

The point was that the Commissioner James Gordon’s actor had become a topic of rumors which assured that he would appear in Zack Snyder’s superhero banger in such an excellent form and that his workouts were the part of his preparation for this very role.

However, his character, the head of the Gotham City Police Department, appears in the movie wearing a trench coat all his screen time, which left fans surprised.

It has been recently revealed in the actor’s interview with ComicBook.com that the reason for his training was drastically different. It turned out that after his participation in his wife’s movie I’m Not Here he lost much weight and needed to get back in form, returning to the regular workouts in the gym and obsessing with it. When he reached his strongest form, his training pal took a few pictures of him and posted them online.

Later, he got lots of the press and netizens’ questions, concerning his potential preparation for Justice League, as the photo simultaneously went viral in the Internet and, especially, among DC fans, building their theories of his character’s appearance.

“It was just coincidental timing with me trying to reclaim my distant athletic youth and trying to stay fit and give my wife some eye candy,” Simmons cleared this situation.

Despite such an easy explanation, it’s impossible not to recall the speculations made by Redditors on that occasion. Apart from admiration for the 61-year-old actor and jokes about his character winning everyone in the DCU, there were even amusing statements about Snyder’s tendency to choose muscled actors for his movies.

“I thought it was Zack ruining Gordon with his obsession with ripped dudes,” jokes user @Mister_873.

These days you can enjoy the actor’s work on his similarly pumped up animated character in the second season of Invincible, which is now streaming on Prime.

  • Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star Could Play This DC Character Because of One Little Similarity

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star Could Play This DC Character Because of One Little Similarity

Sometimes looking alike is really everything.

Karen Gillan’s career skyrocketed in the US after she appeared in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy as Nebula — and since 2014 she appeared in nothing less than 7 of the MCU’s superhero movies.

Now that Nebula’s story is over and Gillan is free to sign up for any project she wants, she was thinking in particular about another famous superhero franchise — which is the MCU’s biggest rival.

Though it doesn’t really mean a possible feud — quite the contrary.

In one of her recent interviews the actress revealed that she’d be down to play Poison Ivy, especially if the plot essentially comes to the character’s intimate relationships with Harley Quinn. As she specified herself, Gillan’s personal interest for Poison Ivy doesn’t really have a deep meaning — just the fact that both of them have red hair.

So far there’s nothing to say about the actress’s chances for portraying the DC character, but her shift from the MCU to the DCU may be more possible than it seems to be. DC Studios is currently run by none other than James Gunn who directed all the recent films for Guardians of the Galaxy’s universe.

This implies that Karen’s good relationships with the director she already worked with may help her bring her dream role to the screens; on top of that, in another interview the actress admitted she’d love to collaborate with Gunn on yet another movie.

One more reason to cheer up for Karen is that James Gunn has already hired some of his MCU’s colleagues for working with him on a DC film — the fact that brings the actress even closer to a potential big role.

Though Gillan confessed she hadn’t yet talked to Gunn about her possible arrival to the DCU universe, the chances are that they’ll eventually come to this conversation anyway.
