Reba McEntire Must Choose Between Two Heroes In ‘The Voice’ Music March Madness

Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton may not keep in touch, but the two Queens of Country are forever connected. The two met in 1977 during Reba’s first performance at the Grand Ole Opry. Since then, Dolly, 78, has been “like a big sister” to the “Fancy” singer, 69. In recent years, the pair even collaborated on a renewed version of Reba’s 1993 hit “Does He Love You.” So when The Voice coaches filled out their brackets for Music March Madness, the Reba star’s top choice was clear.

Along with fellow The Voice coaches John Legend, Chance the Rapper, and Dan + Shay, Reba made several choices between two of music’s biggest names to fill out her bracket. The “Turn On the Radio” singer stayed true to her country roots, and at the end, only Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton remained.

It was a tough call for Reba, who referred to both Dolly and Cash as her “hero” at various points of the video. Ultimately, the GRAMMY winner felt she was honoring the late Man in Black’s wishes with her decision. “I think even Johnny would say, ‘Reba, go with Dolly,’” she said. “So I’m going with Dolly. Congratulations, Dolly. You win!”

Stevie Wonder, Freddie Mercury And Beyoncé Also Took the Crown

Stevie Wonder came out on top for both John Legend and Chance. Legend called Wonder “one of my biggest influences.” “I’ve even sung with the guy a few times,” he said. The EGOT winner chose the funk icon over Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin — but it wasn’t easy.

Wonder topped Whitney Houston in Chance’s bracket. “I gotta go with my gut on this,” the Chicago rapper said. “He’s our greatest living artist.”

Coaching duo Dan + Shay had a hard time choosing between Queen Bey and Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. “It’s both. They’re joining as a duo,” joked Shay Mooney, 32.

The country-pop twosome must reach a unanimous decision on The Voice. Those rules didn’t apply here. Dan Smyers chose Beyoncé, while Shay went with Mercury. “Everybody wins,” Smyers said.

While losing weight is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions out there, Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney is already on the other side of his weight loss goal. The singer dropped more than 50 pounds over the course of 2022, explaining that he was motivated by a desire to improve his mental and physical health.

Mooney began the new year by posting side-by-side “before” and “after” shots documenting the dramatic change, and he also told fans the key to his success.

“Consistency,” the singer writes in the caption of his post. “I changed my entire world in 6 months. No gimmicks or fads. Just consistency.”

He adds a note of encouragement to anyone else on a similar weight loss journey, pointing to his “before” picture and noting, “If that tired guy on the left can do it, so can you.”

Fans and fellow country artists poured into the comments section of Mooney’s post with messages of support. Carrie Underwood — a fitness buff herself, who even has her own line of activewear called Calia — applauded Mooney, writing, “You should be proud!”

Thomas Rhett added a particularly personal message, nodding to the fact that his kids and Mooney’s kids go to school together: “Hardly even noticed you in the drop off line at school the other day! Congrats brother … incredible,” Rhett says.

John Legend shares a photo with his new baby.

John Legend shared his first photo with newborn daughter, Esti, on social media.

The singer and his wife Chrissy Teigen recently welcomed Esti Maxine Stephens, who shares Legend’s birth surname.

Legend is holding the baby in the picture, captioned, “Our new love.”

Teigen commented, “eeeee I love her.”

“Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson added a line of heart emojis.

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” wrote “Congrats fam!!”

Teigen had shared her first picture with the public of Esti’s face earlier this week, writing, “Look at u out here lookin like a baby. (sic)”

Last week, Legend shared a picture of the baby bundled up with sister Luna and brother Miles, writing, “On Friday, we welcomed Esti Maxine Stephens to our family, and our house is overflowing with love and joy. I’m in awe of Chrissy’s strength and resilience and I’m so thrilled to see how Luna and Miles embrace their baby sister. I’m so, so grateful, but that doesn’t seem like a big enough word.”

John Legend’s baby says ‘Dada’ for first time in adorable video

John Legend has shared a heartwarming video to his Instagram featuring his daughter Esti.

While on vacation with Chrissy Teigen and their family, the celebrity couple has been keeping fans updated on their new kids, Esti and Wren.

Their third child together, Esti, was born through IVF in January this year, while Wren was born via surrogacy in June.

In his latest post, Legend, 44, shared the incredibly special moment when Esti learned to speak for the first time.

While she babbled on the sofa, Legend asked, “What’s my name”, and Teigen, 37, added, “What’s Daddy’s name?”

The proud dad watched in awe as his daughter exclaimed “Dada!” and was met with huge cheers.

Legend spun the camera around and beamed, shouting “Caught on tape!”, which seems to confirm this was one of the first times Esti has spoken clearly.

Esti was rather overwhelmed by the excitement and began to cry, leaving Legend to turn off the camera before presumably calming her down.

“DADA! Then I got too excited and scared her [laugh emoji],” he wrote in the caption.

Is John Legend Leaving ‘The Voice’ After Season 25?

NBC’s The Voice Season 25 continues with the Live Shows, and fans watch as coaches Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, and John Legend coach the fantastic singers on their team. Legend hopes to take home the big win this season, as he hasn’t won since season 16. So, is he rejoining the coaches in The Voice Season 25? Here’s what to know about Legend’s future with the show.

Is John Legend leaving ‘The Voice’ after the current season?

The Voice Season 25 wouldn’t be the same without John Legend. Legend joined the show in season 16 and won his rookie season with Maelyn Jarmon. He went on to coach from seasons 17 to 22 before taking time away from the show for season 23. He returned in season 25 to coach alongside Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani, and newbie Reba McEntire.

So, what are Legend’s plans for future seasons? Thankfully, he plans on rejoining for The Voice Season 25. The other three coaches next season include McEntire, Chance the Rapper, and newcomers Dan + Shay.

We can’t wait to see Legend return with another season under his belt. McEntire’s first season is the current one, so she’ll join the following season as a more experienced coach. As for Chance, he joined in season 23 during Legend’s off-year. And country singers Dan + Shay mark the show’s first duo coaches. With this in mind, Legend heads into season 25 as the most experienced coach, so fans might expect him to win it all.

He’s left ‘The Voice’ before season 25 in the past

    https://youtu.be/7_1zc7KTKLI

The Voice Season 25 welcomes John Legend after he didn’t coach season 23. At the time, he promised fans he’d return — and he made good on his promise.

“My family’s growing, I have a new album out, I’m gonna do a little bit of touring, and so it’s probably better that I take a break,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time. ” … But I’ll be back on The Voice, just not this coming season.”

While Legend loves Blake Shelton, he was happy to see him gone for season 25, as it leveled the playing field for the other coaches. “It’s season 25. I was gone for a season, OK? But now that Blake’s gone, I am the king of The Voice now!” he said in an exclusive clip from NBC.

“This is my eighth season though, so I feel like it’s my show now. You know what I’m saying?” he told the other season 25 coaches. To the camera, he admitted he missed his time as a coach. “I feel so happy to be back on The Voice. … I really love the competition. I love the inspiration that I get from The Voice,” he added.

John Legend has a 25-show residency in Las Vegas in 2025

While John Legend will stick with The Voice after season 25 concludes, his schedule in 2025 remains jam-packed. Legend reportedly has a 25-show residency in Las Vegas that plays at the Zappos Theater between April and October.

According to Legend, he’s playing a “full career show,” featuring songs from across his entire career, which began in 2004 with his debut album, “Get Lifted.” We’re excited to see what Legend continues to do as he coaches the reality TV series.

The Voice Season 25 airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

With Team Niall besting Team Blake on season 23 of The Voice, it seems Niall Horan has secured eternal bragging rights over the country star.

The “Heaven” singer, 29, opened up to PEOPLE ahead of his intimate Spotify gig in New York City about his time as a coach on The Voice, and revealed the hilarious quip Blake Shelton made immediately after Horan and Gina Miles’ victory.

“When we left the seat, they announced the winner and I stood up, and then he came for a big hug,” Horan recalled with a laugh. “I gave him a big hug, and he said, ‘I taught you everything you know.’ That’s all he said, not congratulations or anything.”

Still, the One Direction alum knows he’s made a friend for life in Shelton, 46, whose 23rd season on the NBC competition series was his last.

“I’m going to miss him. He is not one of those famous friends, in my eyes. I think if I had met him outside of The Voice, I would have probably been friends with him anyway,” Horan said. “Weirdly enough, we’ve got a lot in common, we’re quite similar people. Though not in dress sense.”

Horan is set to return for season 24 next year, and will compete alongside Reba McEntire, John Legend and Shelton’s wife Gwen Stefani.

“I’m going to miss [Blake], but I get to work with the other half of that marriage,” he says. “I met Gwen at the afterparty for this season’s Voice. She came and surprised Blake on the last night, and she was so funny and so cool, so I’m excited.”

As he coached Miles to a win, Horan said he was able to look to his own past as a contestant on a similar show, The X Factor. The Irish star entered the British competition series in 2010 as a solo artist, and eventually placed third as a member of One Direction.

“[The X Factor] did come into play more than I thought it would, or more than I thought I would allow it to,” he said. “Being there with the contestants every week, picking songs, keeping them calm — because it’s crazy how talented these young kids are, and with that level of talent comes a level of seriousness, and I was always trying to get them to enjoy it.”

He continued: “Having come from a show like that, it felt normal to be doing The Voice to me. If I was just a singer and I hadn’t been on a show like that before, I’m sure I would have been a bit more deer in the headlights, but I knew what I was getting myself into, and I think it was helpful.”

Horan is currently gearing up for the release of his third album, The Show, which will hit shelves on Friday.

He gave a select number of fans a sneak preview of the album on Tuesday at an intimate gig in New York, where he played hits both old (“Slow Hands,” “This Town”) and new (“Meltdown,” “You Could Start a Cult”).

“I’ve tried different sounds, but the record doesn’t feel like it’s anyone else’s record, it still feels like a Niall Horan record, which is a good thing,” he told PEOPLE. “I’ve been able to develop, but not scare too many people away I don’t think. Although the album’s not out yet, so we’ll find out!”

A contestant named Talakai shocked the vocal coach during Monday night’s episode of the reality competition series

John Legend met his match on The Voice — literally!

On Monday night’s episode, a 34-year-old contestant named Talakai impressed the judges with his vocals and striking resemblance to Legend, 44, who is among the vocal coaches on the reality competition series.

The singer from Sacramento, California chose to do a rendition of Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” and captivated Legend with his soulful voice after only several verses. As soon as the “All of Me” artist turned his chair around, he smiled, instantly recognizing that his look-alike was performing before him.

Reba McEntire also ended up hitting her button and swiveling her chair to see the vocalist, but Legend made sure to tell costars Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan to brace themselves before turning around. “Wait until you see his face,” he said. “I’m looking at myself! Like, a taller, more handsome version of myself.”

“What’s up, Twin!” Talakai joked from the stage.

The Grammy winner appeared genuinely flabbergasted in the moment. He shared, “On the internet, a lot of times people will send me pictures of people that they think look like me. Most of the time, I’m like, ‘Not really.’ Then I turn around and look at you and we have the same haircut. I’m like, ‘He really, legitimately looks like me.’”

Talakai admitted that he’s gotten the comparison more than a few times. “Every day at work, I get it. In school, they used to sing ‘Ordinary People’ down the hallway all the time,” he said.

“I’m sorry I’ve been haunting you,” Legend joked. “But now you’re on The Voice and I would love to have you on Team Legend.”

While Horan, 30, offered a thoughtful critique, McEntire, 68, shared how impressed she was with the singer, despite knowing he would end up going with Legend as his coach. “I’ll tell you: I absolutely love your voice, your range,” the country music star said. “I know I don’t have a chance against John. I just wanted to come out and watch you. I’m already a huge fan, so welcome to The Voice.”

The aspiring star did in fact go with Legend, who jumped up from his seat to celebrate and take a selfie with his doppelgänger.

John Legend meets doppelgänger Talakai on 'The Voice' Season 24

According to NBC Insider, ahead of Talakai’s audition, he opened up about being raised by his grandparents and ending up in the foster care system when they died. “I’ve been in about 10 homes. I went through physical and mental abuse. Throughout that time, I would always turn to music and that helped me through those dark times,” he revealed on the show.

The Voice kicked off its 24th season on Sept. 25, with new episodes airing every Monday on NBC.

PEOPLE spoke to McEntire earlier this year about joining the show and replacing Blake Shelton, who left the series after Season 23.

She shared, “The country lane — I’m taking over for Blake so I’m gonna represent country music. [He’s got] big boots. I don’t know what size those boots are, but they’re big, so I’m gonna really work hard to make him proud.”

PEOPLE also recently caught up with all four judges ahead of the premiere. When asked what’s been most surprising about the new season, the “Slow Hands” artist joked, “How mean Gwen Stefani is to me. It’s honestly truly shocking.”

Stefani, 54, got in on the joke, too. She added, “All of the girls in the whole world are going to be so mad at me! We’re playing. It’s a joke. He likes it.”

North West, 10, leaks video of mom Kim Kardashian in bed yawning as preteen zooms in on star’s wrinkles and pores

NORTH West has once again shared a rare unedited look at her famous mom Kim Kardashian on social media.

The 10-year-old had no problem showing fans a different look at the Hulu star, this time while Kim was ready to sleep.

North took to the TikTok account that she shares with her mom to post the short video featuring Kim in bed.

The 15-second clip kicks off with Kim – wearing a black robe – opening her mouth wide to yawn, soon followed by North zooming in on the mom-of-four’s face to put her pores and wrinkles on display.

Kim’s eldest child zooms in and out of the star’s face while the reality star seems unbothered.

“Taking random videos of my mom when she doesn’t know,” North captioned the clip.

This is hardly the first time that North has playfully mocked her mom on the platform as it has mainly focused on capturing Kim in rare, unedited moments.

Earlier this month, North shared a batch of unseen moments from her seemingly busy life, and one snap included a snap of Kim wearing a Balenciaga jacket, and clearly not aware her photo was being taken.

In the pic, the Skims founder star had her hair slicked back in a ponytail and had her face all done-up, however, the angle of the photo gave Kim an unflattering look.

North clearly enjoys pushing the boundaries with her world-famous mom, as in February she decided to leak an unedited screenshot of Kim during a Facetime call.

The shot had Kim’s face almost covering the entire screen except for a small box in the bottom of the right which featured North showcasing her best scared impression.

Kim’s lips looked wonky and her eyes were bulging in the shot, however, North gave no context as to what the two were discussing in that moment.

When a Kardashian fan shared to screenshot to a popular online thread dedicated to the family, fans were quick to respond.

“How botched is she that anyone thought this was a good photo,” one person asked, perhaps unaware of North’s hijinks.

“And what is going on with her lips?” another user asked.

“All North does is drag her mom on the internet,” a fan reminded, as one added, “What is this!”

    BUSY LIVIN’

North isn’t just all about leaking photos of Kim left and right, she is also busy trying to become the next big thing in rap.

The young star is featured on her father Kanye West’s song, Talking/Once Again, and she is gearing up to release her own album titled, Elementary School Dropout.

The title is a tribute to her dad’s 2004 The College Dropout, which reeled in plenty of accolades.

Not much is known from North’s upcoming album, but she did reveal her famous father will be on some tracks.

North shared the info during an interview at the Rolling Loud Music Festival in Inglewood, California.

Fans, however, thought North looked nervous during the chat, and even claimed she was “forced into the limelight.”

“She’s too young to be doing all of this. Go home and do your homework,” one person raged at the time.

So, he called a friend.

“My father, Michael, got a hold of Reba McEntire in the middle of the night and told her the situation,” Tre Twitty writes. “Reba said ‘Go to the airport, my plane is waiting, take it as long as you need it. I’ll call my pilot now.’ My dad went and got on Reba’s plane and flew to Springfield. They all got there and got their chances to say their goodbyes before Poppy passed on the morning of June 5th. Later that day they all flew back to Nashville on Reba’s plane, their world forever changed.”

When Michael Twitty called McEntire to discuss what they owed her for the use of the plane, Tre Twitty shares, “Reba said, ‘Your daddy took me on tour and gave me $5,000 a night when I wasn’t worth $500, you don’t owe me anything. I loved him.’”

Why Reba McEntire Almost Quit Singing After Mother's Death

Twitty says in his Facebook post that he’s been “waiting for 26 years” to meet McEntire and thank her for her generosity. “I’m publicly telling this story because she is far too classy and modest to ever mention it,” he adds.

“Country Music is all about family,” Twitty concludes. “Thank you Reba for being there for mine.”

As Twitty and Lynn, Tre and Talya have been touring to honor their grandparents with a show full of their songs and their family’s stories. According to her granddaughter, Loretta Lynn put down her foot as only she can and insisted that the act be billed as something other than a tribute.

“It’s actually called A Salute to Conway and Loretta because Memaw says that she’s not dead yet, and that’s what a tribute show is,” Tayla Lynn tells Moose Jaw Today. “She said she ain’t having it.”

Reba McEntire has shared a list of her dream collaborators, and fans will likely be excited with her picks. The country superstar admits she’s a longtime fan of Cher’s and says the idea of a collaboration has been on her mind for a while.

“I’m a huge Cher fan, I have been forever,” McEntire tells People.

Relive Reba McEntire’s 10 Best ACM Awards Moments:

“Wouldn’t that be fun?” she says of a potential collaboration. “It seems like a natural to me.” If the two stars were to unite, it wouldn’t be the first time a country artist has worked with the pop icon. Dolly Parton performed as part of the famous Cher … Special that aired on ABC in 1978, performing her crossover hit “Two Doors Down.”

“Dolly Parton and Cher? Of course, that’s a given,” McEntire notes. The “Fancy” singer also picked two major modern pop acts as dream collaborators: Pink and Bruno Mars.

“There’s people you want to go work with — that might be two things you wouldn’t ever think of,” she says. McEntire hasn’t been shy about her admiration for Mars in recent years, sharing her love for the “Uptown Funk” superstar on the Bobby Bones Show. She’s actually seen him in concert three times!

While we patiently wait for these incredible collaborations to unfold, McEntire will release her highly anticipated new album Stronger Than the Truth on Friday (April 5), two days before she hosts the 54th annual ACM Awards in Las Vegas. The ACMs air Sunday (April 7) at 8PM ET on CBS.

The former Commodore started his amazing solo career with the platinum selling pop single “Endless Love” with Diana Ross in 1981. Then, he dominated pop and adult contemporary radio with “My Love,” “All Night Long” and “Hello” before pitching “Stuck on You” to country radio. The song peaked at a modest No. 24, but his follow-up with Alabama on “Deep River Woman” climbed to No. 10. Prior to his surprise appearance on the country chart, he wrote the huge country crossover hit “Lady” for Kenny Rogers in 1980.

From there, the Michigan native’s career began to take a purely country turn — he even went on the road with Brantley Gilbert.

Fans fell in love with Mother Monster through her singles “Poker Face” and “Just Dance” and from there, there was no stopping her. Lady Gaga has experimented with other types of music since, including an album of jazz standards with Tony Bennett … and she even made a country version of her song “Born This Way”! We know, it’s shocking.

Perhaps the biggest country crossover to date, Darius Rucker was Hootie to the Blowfish in the ’80s and ’90s, but he really found his stride when he signed with Capitol Records in 2008, going head first into country music. Today? He’s a staple, making songs like “Wagon Wheel” his own and sharing his “Homegrown Honey.” Where would we be without him?

The legendary “White Christmas” crooner made a surprise leap onto the country chart with the jukebox favorite “Pistol Packin’ Mama,” written by Al Dexter. According to the Western Music Hall of Fame, which inducted Crosby as a member in 2008, Crosby was responsible for “exposing a large and very receptive audience to Western music and laying the groundwork for its acceptance among fans beyond the country genre.”

In 1980, he inspired another country themed soundtrack for Any Which Way You Can, featuring the hit “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma,” recorded by David Frizzell and Shelley West. The biggest surprise came in 1980, when Eastwood actually sang a song with Merle Haggard titled “Bar Room Buddies.”

    Bon Jovi

You could almost guarantee that any Bon Jovi fan who was rockin’ out to 1986’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ On A Prayer” was not listening to Randy Travis and the Judds, the hottest names in country radio at the time. However, as country music evolved and changed, so did the many rock ‘n’ roll fans, who suddenly became a part of country music’s growing demographic. In 2006, Jon Bon Jovi and his band made an easy transition to country with “‘Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” his duet with Jennifer Nettles.

The Red-Headed Stranger then began the search for his unlikely singing partner to propose the idea of recording “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before.” In no time, Iglesias accepted the offer and traveled to the United States to record his vocals. The song rode up the country charts to No. 1 and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard pop chart.

Then, after his rock ‘n’ roll success dwindled, he released a successful string of country hits throughout the ’60s and ’70s. In all, the thumpin’ piano player racked up 49 Top 40 Billboard country hits, and even played the Grand Ole Opry.
