ITV Loose Women star shares health update as she returns to show after collapse

The Loose Women panel welcomed back one member of the team after she was ‘hospitalised’

The Loose Women panel welcomed back their colleague as she returned to the programme after taking time out to focus on her well being after collapsing and being hospitalised.

Denise Welch, 66, has been noticeably absent from the ITV programme for some time now and host Ruth Langsford introduced the the actress as she made a comeback on Tuesday (February 11).

On the show, the former Coronation Street actress who can curently be seen in Celebrity Hunted, bravely spoke about her ordeal after she “collapsed” before doing her pantomime performance in December.

The former soap star had to pull out of playing Captain Hook in the 2024 Peter Pan pantomime at Nottingham Theatre Royal due to ill health, with Richard Winsor needing to step in to replace her.

Having battled with depression for decades now, Denise detailed how she’d recognised some of the signs and symptoms that she was about to become poorly.

She’d felt a “tingling sensation” in her arm and also recalled a “metallic taste” in her mouth, knowing that something bad was about to happen, and then it did.

Denise drove up a side street the wrong way and was greeted by an angry motorist behind the wheel of another car, who was shouting at her, instead of responding she just knew something was deeply wrong.

Denise bravely opened up about her absence from Loose Women
At the same time, Denise also noted that she had a number of personal struggles going on in her life, one being her stalker’s release from prison early.

Opening up the show, Denise said: “I ploughed on and I started the pantomime, within three days I collapsed in the foyer of the hotel I was staying in and I got back to the room and I said to my agent ‘you’ve got to pull me out’.”

Denise Welch returned to Loose Women
Denise had to take time off due to poor mental healthShe went on to say: “My agent Bex and my husband, who have been amazing, phoned the company manager of the Panto and the first thing he said was…”

Denise struggled as she became emotional, then relaying her manager’s kind offer: “‘Is she on her own?’ and ‘does she want me to go and be with her?’”

Despite trying to battle on, it all became too much for Denise and she ended up “collapsing” before the pantomime kicked off, resulting in the star being replaced from the production and taking a back-step from her Loose Women duties too.

Denise explained that she was also due to return to her ITV post last week but as she readied to come back was once again taken ill and to hospital, with acute peratinital perforated diverticulitis.

She was treated with an intravenous drip as medics deliberated on whether she might need to have surgery, fortunately this turned out not to be the case.

Holding her hand over her face she stated: “So I’ve been in hospital on a drip for a b****y week,” the Corrie star added: “Excuse me,” before confirming: “Anyway they didn’t have to do surgery, they got it with antibiotics.”

Loose Women airs on ITV1, from 12:30pm.

Stacey Solomon reveals she will spend evenings with Joe Swash ‘not talking’ to each other

Loose Women star Stacey Solomon has opened up on the concept of “self-care”, insisting that she doesn’t like to put any unnecessary pressure on herself and when she does achieve it, it’s not through the means of a “bubble bath”

Stacey Solomon has confessed that she and her husband Joe Swash often spend evenings not speaking to each other as a way to prioritise “self-care”.

The Loose Women presenter, 35, and Joe have a blended family of six children – Harry, Zachary, Leighton, Rex, Rose, and Belle – and reside in their countryside home, Pickle Cottage, regularly sharing glimpses into their lives on Instagram.

In a recent interview, Stacey shared her thoughts on “self-care”, revealing that she doesn’t believe in adding extra pressure to achieve it. She also admitted that her self-care routine doesn’t involve indulging in a relaxing “bubble bath”.

Speaking to Grazia, Stacey said: “I think we all put ourselves under a lot of pressure to be like, ‘Don’t forget you! ‘ and ‘Don’t forget to fit your self-care in or you’re going to go down the drain.’ Sometimes in life, it’s just not possible.”

Stacey told the publication about the importance of being flexible and not putting too much pressure on oneself. She then described what self-care looks like in her household, which usually takes place after the kids are tucked in, reports the Manchester Evening News.

She mentioned the moment when she’s finished with work for the day, sharing that she enjoys playing cards with her family. However, there comes a point when she and Joe choose not to interact with each other.

Stacey added: “Or Joe and I will sit on the sofa and not talk to each other and watch some mind-numbing TV. That’s self-care for us. It’s not a bubble bath, I’m lucky if I have time to wash my important bits in the shower!”

Joe, who’s recently got into batch cooking to feed his big brood, including two dogs and four ducks, spilled the beans to OK! about the challenges of parenting, branding it “difficult bringing kids up”.

He even owned up to his once-messy ways before Stacey stepped in, confessing: “It took Stacey a while to whip me into shape, to be fair.”

Joe went on to share: “It involved a lot of making me go back and tidy up the mess I’d left behind. A lot of, ‘This is how the cupboards are meant to look,’ and ‘I don’t want it to look different to this’.”

The pair have been an item for over ten years, sparking up a romance post-Stacey’s I’m a Celeb victory in 2010 and tying the knot at Pickle Cottage in July 2022.

On their festive BBC programme last year, ‘Stacey Solomon’s Crafty Christmas ‘, where Stacey showed off her creative flair with decorations and gifts, she couldn’t resist giving away that Joe was a total softie on their big day, mentioning: “Your mum had to come out and warn me. I could see your tears from the beginning of the aisle.”

To which Joe quipped: “Well at least one of us got emotional at the wedding eh. Oh ice queen.”

  • Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden reveals real reason for leaving soap after 18 years

Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden reveals real reason for leaving soap after 18 years

Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden has revealed why it was time to leave the show, and the reason being the stern backstage rule being the reason why.

Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has revealed why it was time to finally leave the show after 17 years, and the stern rule backstage being the reason why. Announcing his plans to leave in August, 2023, Matthew accepted the lead role of Buddy in Elf the musical in London’s West End which ran for eight weeks.

Producers of the ITV1 soap told the actor he had to choose between the show and the musical as there was a strict ‘no panto rule’, despite Matthew asking for a short break, wanting to return. Wolfenden told The Sun that this was a major problem for him as the show does not “let people out at Christmas to do panto” as an exception would result in many actors opting for it. The actor said production’s “reasoning is if [they] left one person out, [they]’ve got to open it up to everyone and could lose half [the] cast at Christmas.”

    Matthew at the Elf premiere
Matthew left his role of 17 years for the eight-week job of Buddy the Elf
ImageConfirming that Elf was not a pantomime, Matthew stated that “it was a big West End musical, over panto season” and the producers were unwilling to budge on the steadfast rule. “If we set a precedence to let you out for three months to do that we’ve got to let other people out too” recalled Matthew, who “absolutely understood”.

Exiting the show officially in April, 2024, the now West End star recalled his contract “coming to an end” and being left with the “big decision” – asking himself: “Do I leave an 18 year job to do an eight week show?”. Upon reflection, Wolfenden called his decision “to leave a well paid job to go and do an eight week run” “a little crazy”.

Matthew’s character David Metcalfe left Emmerdale’s village after uncovering son, Jacob, in a relationship with his ex, Victoria – the overwhelming betrayal being Matthew’s way out. “I’m 44 now, I was 43 at the time and I thought if I don’t do it now then I’ll never do it.” Additionally, this exit avoided the ‘killing off’ of Matthew’s character, allowing the actor a future opportunity to return to the soap in the future, which is a potential he has left open.

Emmerdale still before Matthew left the show
Matthew’s exit from Emmerdale included a heart-breaking storyline where he discovered his son and ex’s affairMatthew received a “lovely email” from “big boss”, John Whiston, which said: “Look, we’re not going to kill you off, [but] that is not me saying you can come back”. Wolfenden labelled this “lucky” and stated that they “obviously can’t say that, but the door will be left open for the character of David, which was very nice”.

“It does give you that option, you never know, I might go knocking on the door and say ‘Can I come back please’ it’s such a great place to work. It’s on my doorstep and the people are fantastic”. Matthew “absolutely adored” the set and his decision to leave had “nothing to do with the fact that I wasn’t enjoying it anymore”. His only reason being that he wished to “spread [his] wings” after 17 years of one show and “do some more musical theatre”.

Matthew had previously been in West End for nearly five years before landing the part of David Metcalfe. He assumed it would be a short role for “three months” and planned to see his parents during the filming, and then head back to London’s theatres. “Three months turned into six months and then 17 years later I was still there!”. The Elf star admitted that musical theatre has been his forever passion and that the want to return has always been in the back of mind – 2023 being the time he finally “bit the bullet”.

Several months after making the decision to leave, a scandal broke out accusing Matthew of cheating on his wife. The couple split up around November 2023, to which Matthew denied the rumours and took to Instagram to state that the affair was a “lie” being told. Shortly after the split with Charlie Webb, the mother of their three children, Matthew posted pics of his new girlfriend – Heather Scott Martin, who is a personal trainer and musical theatre actress which he reportedly met during the production of Elf.

Strictly Come Dancing pro Amy Dowden was joined by her BBC co-star Carlos Gu as the duo appeared on Loose Women ahead of their upcoming tour, Reborn.

Strictly Come Dancing pro Carlos Gu got choked up as he praised his co-star Amy Dowden. The dancing duo made an appearance on Loose Women this week in anticipation of their Reborn tour, which kicks off at the end of March.

The inspiration behind this title, according to Amy, stems from both her experience battling cancer and Carlos’s journey of self-discovery since moving to the UK

She told the ITV panel: “Carlos came up with the name of Reborn, and something we’ve both been through the last few years, obviously my cancer journey.

“But also Carlos, he’s been on his own journey since moving to the UK, being able to be true to himself, his sexuality and how the UK has just opened him up.”

Carlos became visibly emotional as he celebrated their bond, revealing how Amy helped him find his footing in the UK.

Carlos’s voice cracked as he recounted how Amy used dance as a lifeline throughout her diagnosis, describing her as someone with a profound passion for the art, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Overcome, Carlos said: “Amy is the person that I’ve met who has so much passion for dancing. I know that was the only thing that could support her and get her through. She needs dancing, she needs Strictly and she needs to be alive and to feel herself again.”

He’s become one of the Dowdens.”

The 34-year-old dancer confessed she was heartbroken when she had to withdraw from the last season of Strictly, but now that she’s wrapped up the Strictly tour, she’s looking ahead with optimism.

She expressed: “I finished the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour last night, and I was so proud of myself, being able to do 10 shows a week, because I wasn’t sure my body was ever going to be capable of it.

Despite appearing confident, Amy admitted she’s had her share of struggles. Amy added: “I look confident, but I’ve really not been… I’ve spent most nights crying at your [Carlos] house, saying, ‘My body feels different, my dancing’s not as good, I don’t look or feel the same’, But actually, I really feel like Amy again, and I’m so proud of how far I’ve come.”

Amy candidly discussed her aspirations to become a mother and her IVF journey. She revealed: “I had a hormone cancer so I have been put into early menopause and it would be too dangerous now [to fall pregnant], but I really want to be a mum, I’ve always wanted to be a mum.

“We do have five embryos, I hope one day, if it’s safe to do so, I do get the privilege and honour to be someone’s mummy.”

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s public display of affection branded ‘nauseating’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s public display of affection branded ‘nauseating’

Meghan Markle clutched Prince Harry’s arm and grabbed his face for a public kiss at an event at the Invictus Games, a oment some lauded as tender and affectionate

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s public display of affection during the Invictus Games has been branded “miscalculated and nauseating”.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, was snapped clutching the royal’s arm and grabbing his face at one event during the Games in and near Vancouver, Canada. Yet, hours later Meghan left Harry to it and departed the country in a private jet for their Californian home.

The loved-up display was praised by fans as being affectionate and romantic – days before Valentine’s Day – but it has also led to some to wonder why Meghan’s trip was seemingly cut short. These may have included journalist Amanda Platell who, writing before the Duchess of Sussex left, launched scathing criticism at the PDA.

The former press secretary to William Hague, the then leader of the British Conservative Party, wrote: “We had a fawning Meghan making doe eyes while looking up at him, clutching his arm and grabbing his face for a very public kiss. No photo-op went unmissed.

“Megs was determined that she and their love affair would take centre-stage, whatever we thought about the heroic men and woman this event was actually celebrating. In all my many years as a journalist and former political spin doctor, I cannot recall a more miscalculated and nauseating public display of affection.”

Harry is now carrying out the duties solo

    Image:
    Humphrey Nemar)
In her take, published by the Daily Mail, the reporter also claims the PDA was not welcomed by the wounded soldiers and their families at the Games. Ms Platell added: “Another source emphasised that veterans rejected the couple’s stance, stating: ‘Unlike them, veterans and their families do not see themselves as victims.’

“The volunteer added that they were ‘overshadowing the veterans who should be at the centre of it all. This event should be about the veterans, not a royal spectacle…there is a growing frustration over how Harry and Meghan have dominated the narrative.’.. How appalling it is that Harry seems to have to hijacked the ceremony in this way.”

Yet Meghan had always been planned she would leave the event early, it is understood. The Games have come after a tough time for the Sussexes, who were branded ‘disaster tourists’ in the wake of visiting victims of California wildfires. They were also the subject of a scathing Vanity Fair article about what it is really like to work for them.

And according to PR expert Edward Coram James, the CEO of Go Up, Meghan should have rethought going to the Invictus Games altogether. He told the Mirror : “Meghan should leave the Invictus Games to Harry. It’s his project, and he’s more than capable of drumming up support and publicity for this incredible cause. Their joint brand has become tainted over the years — not through any fault of their own, but due to woeful PR.”

The royal, 40, raced schoolboy Hamish Greenstreet down the slopes in Whistler before celebrating with a triumphant “yes!” at the finish line. Hamish, whose dad is competing in the Games for Team Australia, met the Prince and Meghan alongside his mum Angela and brother Taj at a friends and family event in Whistler on Tuesday morning.

He admitted he had been “a bit nervous” to race Harry, but described the experience as “really fun” and “exciting”. When asked if he had ever met a prince before, he exclaimed: “Hell no!”.

Hamish had earlier urged Meghan: “Go down the thrill lane!”. But the mum-of-two made clear she was too scared and responded: “No way!”. The duchess later completed a ride on the slower lane, before putting her hands on her head and exclaiming: I mean! You guys! Well, we did it!”.

Speaking about her husband Harry, she added: “Meanwhile he’s racing on the thrill lane with a ten-year-old!”. Meghan, 43, had earlier squealed as she set off own the snow-covered ramp, admitting: “No, no I really don’t want to do this.”

It comes after it was revealed that the Duchess won’t be joining Harry at the rest of the Games – instead travelling back to Montecito to see her children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

Speaking to Hamish’s brother Taj, the duchess asked: “Did you go down the thrill lane?” “No, I went down the chill one,”. Their mother, Angela Greenstreet, became tearful when asked what Invictus has meant to their family.

Speaking to royal writer Elizabeth Holmes, who was given special access to the event, she said: “It’s been a lot of therapy for my husband, just getting into sport and doing things and realizing it’s OK to not be OK. I’m very grateful to Prince Harry for speaking out about mental health. He’s not a normal guy. Prince Harry’s the prince.

“But he suffers just like everybody else, so it’s truly amazing that everybody suffers, no matter where you come from. Everybody is touched by the military. We’re very grateful he’s spoken out and made Invictus what it is.”

Meghan and Harry were filmed walking hand-in-hand to the start of the tube run before she left Whistler shortly afterwards in order to return to California to care for their children Archie, five, and Lilibet, three.

She landed back in California on a private jet on Tuesday afternoon local-time after spending five days at the multi-sport competition after arriving in Vancouver alongside Harry, 40, on Friday.

Real reason Donald Trump won’t kick Prince Harry and Meghan Markle out of US

Donald Trump described Meghan Markle as “terrible” this week but the world leader confirmed he would not seek to deport Harry amid an ongoing legal battle over his immigration status

Donald Trump’s decision not kick Prince Harry and Meghan Markle out of the US was influenced by King Charles, an expert has claimed.

The President confirmed last week he would not seek to deport the Duke amid an ongoing legal battle over his immigration status, despite having previously suggested he might do so. In a scathing dig, Mr Trump said Harry, 40, ” has enough problems with his wife,” branding Meghan “terrible”.

But Mr Trump has made the U-turn not to deport the Duke of Sussex because of his “warm relationship” with King Charles, it is believed. The President, 78, reportedly understands the move would cause the Royal family significant distress. A source said: “Having him back in the UK is actually harder than having him kept away in the USA.”

Mr Trump and our monarch struck up a unlikely bond during Mr Trump’s first term, during which he travelled to the UK on a state visit in 2019. King Charles is reportedly in regular communication with the US President and the monarch is known to write many letters to America, including a message of support after Mr Trump survived an assassination attempt in September last year.

When father-of-two King Charles revealed his shock cancer diagnosis at the start of last year, Mr Trump said he was sending prayers for a speedy recovery to someone he “got to know well.”

The two men have previously met twice and got on surprisingly well given their differing views on a number of world issues, including climate change.

And The Sun reports royal experts understand Mr Trump does not want to jeopardise this friendship so reached a decision to allow Harry to remain the US. However, in the past, Mr Trump has called Prince Harry “whipped” and said he “betrayed the Queen” with his tell-all memoir and Netflix show.

The Duke of Sussex’s right to live in the US is the focus of a court case over whether or not he lied about taking cocaine, marijuana and hallucinogens on his visa application.
