Denise Welch snapped: “I’m talking” as Kaye Adams interrupted her during the latest episode of Loose Women as the panel discussed women wanting to work in their 60s

Loose Women star Denise Welch shut down Kaye Adams saying “I’m talking” during the latest episode of the ITV daytime show.

Kaye was back on presenting duty on Friday (March 21) with Denise, Nadia Sawalha and Kelly Brooke on the panel to discuss the latest topics.

They kicked off the show by debating “do women want to work in their 60s?” and Denise said: “People are working until their 68 and what’s happening is as well, and we discussed it on a show the other day…”

Kaye interrupted: “How old are you just now?” Denise replied: “I’m be 67 in May, thank you Kaye.”

Kaye interrupted: “How old are you just now?” Denise replied: “I’m be 67 in May, thank you Kaye.”

The Scottish host continued: “So can you see yourself retiring..” Denise hit back: “I’m talking. I’ve lost my thread now. It’s the fact.. I can’t even remember what I was saying.” Kaye and Denise’s co-stars and the studio audience were left in fits of giggles at the duo.

It comes just days after Denise opened up about her domestic abuse battle where an ex partner threw a table at a man for smiling at her.

During Monday’s (March 17) episode, the panel celebrated the first anniversary of their Facing It Together campaign and Denise shared some shocking details about the toxic relationship with an unnamed man.

She began: “I fell in love with this incredibly charismatic man, very, very good-looking, and I thought that my whole life had aligned and this was the person for me.

“Then, of course, you don’t realise what’s happening, so he started to chip, chip, chip away at my personality. Personality traits that I thought made me quite popular suddenly became detrimental, and he would say things like, ‘You know your friends aren’t laughing with you, they’re laughing at you.’

“‘You know, when you told that joke that they all laughed at, why did you tell that joke? It was rude. They were all rolling their eyes at each other,’ and you start to slowly believe.” She also revealed how her partner’s dysfunction and jealousy played a huge role in the abuse.

Denise was keen to share her thoughts on the working age

One particular instance stands out for Denise, who is now happily married to Lincoln Townley, which she described as a chilling moment in their relationship. She said: “Before I was on the telly, nobody knew who I was, we were sat in a restaurant together and I was facing the door.

“The door opened and a couple walked in, and we just made eye contact, so I smiled at them and they smiled at me. He saw, he turned around and he looked at the guy, and I’m not going to say exactly what he said, but the table went up and he said, ‘You want to… my girlfriend, right?’

When asked how these actions made her feel, Denise confessed the emotional turmoil she went through. She said: “You can imagine that any normal person listening to that story would say, ‘Why did you not just leave?’ But you are so desperate to change that person, and they make you feel like you are the centre of their life.”

  • Coronation Street’s Julie Hesmondalgh shares ‘dark’ time on project that felt ‘exploitative’

Coronation Street’s Julie Hesmondalgh shares ‘dark’ time on project that felt ‘exploitative’

Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondalgh has opened up about working on James Graham’s play Punch and how rehearsing one particular scene was “a really dark moment” for her

Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondalgh has said that she has faced the “hardest” experience working on the play Punch, which tells the real-life story of how the bereaved mother of a son who was killed by one punch met with his killer.

Speaking about rehearsing a scene in front of the parents of James Hodgkinson, who died in 2011, Julie told ITV’s Loose Women: “One of the hardest things I’ve ever done is doing a run-through of the play in a really well-lit rehearsal room with David and Joan sitting there and it was a really dark moment for me,” she said.

“It felt borderline exploitative – I was acting out some of the worst moments of their life while they were sitting there but because they are such incredible, very ordinary but incredible, generous and gracious people, they understood the need to tell this story.”

Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondalgh shares dark moment on project that felt ‘borderline exploitative’
“As we know from all these things and from Adolescence that I know you’ve been talking about a lot, telling these stories, this is why we need to fight for the arts constantly.”

Julie made her return to Loose Women on Thursday – 25 years after being a panellist herself on the show.

The star, who is best known for her role as Hayley Cropper on Coronation Street appeared as a panellist when the ITV daytime show was filmed in Manchester.

The star appeared in the Manchester based soap from 1998 to 2014, making her debut in January 1998 and her final scenes airing in January 2014. In heartbreaking scenes, soap fans saw Hayley end her life after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.

She’s not the only Coronation Street star to have graced the Loose Women panel, as Eileen Grimshaw star Sue Cleaver became a regular panellist last year, following her guest stint in 2024.

It came shortly before Sue announced she’d be departing the soap after 25 years on the cobbles.

In a statement last year, the star said that the door “is still firmly open” to return to the soap but that she’s ready for “new adventures”.

“I’m leaving now – I’m 61 and this is what my new book is all about. I think we get to an age where society wants us just to shuffle off quietly and I really want to encourage other women that we have so much more to give,” she said during an interview on This Morning.

It was recently announced her on screen son, Jason Grimshaw played by Ryan Thomas would be making a return for her exit storyline.

Amanda Abbington eyes up role on huge ITV show after Strictly scandal

Actress Amanda Abbington is ready to move on the Strictly Come Dancing and Giovanni Pernice bullying row as she reveals she’d be up for joining one of ITV’s most popular shows

    Amanda Abbington
Amanda has her eye on a coveted spot on a huge ITV show

Actress and former Strictly star Amanda Abbington has revealed she has her eye a role on a major ITV show after enduring what she described as “one of the hardest years of my life”. The 51-year-old Sherlock actress became embroiled in the major Strictly Come Dancing bullying row after being partnered with the show’s now axed pro Giovanni Pernice for the 2023 series.

Since withdrawing from the competition early citing “personal reasons”, and later making a formal complaint about the “toxic environment” she experienced, Amanda has been largely absent from mainstream TV, but that could be about to change if she gets her wish of a place on the Loose Women panel.

When asked if she’d consider joining the likes of Coleen Nolan and Charlene White on the daily panel show, mum-of-two Amanda reportedly said: “Yes, totally. It’s nice to have women’s views on things, and I think as long as we don’t paint ourselves as miserable old hags.

“I think women of a certain age tend to get painted as miserable and moaning and complaining, and I think it would be good to get up there and have fun. They’re great women, and I know a few of them, like Denise [Welch], I love her.”

According to The Sun, the London-born actress very much sees her career and life here in the UK, and would rule out a move Stateside, despite the success of shows like Mr Selfridge and Sherlock, which also stars her ex husband Martin Freeman.

“I like my career here, and I’m happy to do theatre and telly here, and just be,” she told Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard. “I’m a bit of a homebody. I like to be at home with my family and friends – America has never really appealed to me. It’s just not my cup of tea, especially now.”

The actress also recently revealed she’s also about to take a major step in her personal life by marrying her long-term partner Jonathan Goodwin, a retired stuntman who once appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.

Chatting about her wedding plans on This Morning, Amanda revealed the fallout from her time on Strictly was still “hanging over” them, but they plan to tie the knot in 2026.

The couple started dating in 2021 and Jonathan is believed to have popped the question after their first date in Vienna.

“We want to get this year out the way and then focus fully on having a wonderful celebration next year,” she said. “I love him with all my heart. He has been such a rock and is so incredibly inspiring every day.

“Even when he’s negative he’s positive. He’s wonderful and even last year, going through everything I went through, he made me laugh every single day. He has my heart.”

Comedian Tom Allen was shocked after discovering his long-lost relative. The comedian, who is among the presenters of this year’s Red Nose Day, appeared on ITV’s DNA Journey back in 2022 alongside fellow comedian Joel Dommett and the pair headed on a road trip to learn more about their families. During the episode, Tom revealed his shock after it was discovered that he had a connection to Loose Women icon Gloria Hunniford.

The show revealed that the pair were cousins through Tom’s mother’s maternal line. In one sweet moment, Gloria met with Tom and Joel in a restaurant, with Tom admitting: “I’m so nervous…It’s really intimidating the whole thing. What if they’re slightly irritated by me? It’s exciting. I can’t rest.”

However, things went smoothly for the group. As Tom greeted the TV legend, he said: “I hear you’re my cousin,” before joking that he thought Gloria would be disappointed that it wasn’t Joel she shared a connection with.

Several months after the clip aired, Tom appeared on Lorraine where he recalled the moment he learned that Gloria was his cousin.

“I got this text message saying that I was related to Irish TV royalty and I thought, ‘Well there’s not many options with that really other than Graham [Norton] or Gloria.’ But I was still surprised,” he said.

Gloria then joined the conversation via video, calling Tom “the loveliest cousin that I’ve just discovered”. She said: “When somebody says to you on a TV programme we’ve discovered a cousin of yours and he is very well known, you’re like ‘Who could it be?’ Well it turned out to be you Tom.”

She added: “I’m so thrilled and I know we’re going to meet up with your mum soon because your mum comes from Northern Ireland and I’m very much looking forward to that.”

During his appearance on ITV’s DNA Journey, Tom also paid tribute to his late father. In 2021, the Apprentice star’s beloved father Paul sadly died at the age of 80 after suffering a heart attack.

“I’m so sad to report that my wonderful dad has died. It was a total shock. He was with mum and he had a heart attack last night,” he wrote on social media.

“He said things like ‘You can never run out of love’ and ‘Always go into everything with a good heart’. He was also inclined to write ‘shove it’ in a birthday card.”

The TV personality added that he wanted to open up about his loss in order to help his own “grieving process”.

He continued: “It feels like part of the grieving process that I wanted to tell you: He was a wonderful kind man and we love him very much.”

While on the show a year later, Tom took a moment to remember his father. “I got booked to do the Royal Variety Show and they had tickets in the front row under the royal box,” he reminisced.

Tom then took a moment to compose himself and became emotional. “The day after, my dad said ‘oh, if my family had seen you up there on that stage, they wouldn’t be able to believe it’,” he added. “But I suppose it’s, I don’t know, it just sort of feels like there was a ghost there.”

Matty Healy is preparing to do what he does best – command a stage and stir up headlines. The 1975 frontman will lead the band through a highly anticipated Pyramid Stage set tonight, performing in front of thousands of fans. But among the sea of faces, there’s one he’ll be looking for; proud mum, Loose Women star Denise Welch, watching from the side lines.

Appearing on Loose Women, Denise shared her excitement, saying: “For those who don’t know, my son is the lead singer for The 1975 and they are headlining Glastonbury on Friday. Obviously, I’m an incredibly proud mum.

“You’ve got to remember the band has been together for 23 years. They started in our garage as 12 and 13-year-old boys. Some of the songs they’ll be playing, Matty was writing at 15 and 16,” she added, before admitting she still doesn’t know all the lyrics.

Despite not being a festival person, Denise joked she’ll be there to cheer her son on though “as VIP as possible.”

A picture of Denise and her sons
The family dealt with a lot causing a strain on their bond(Image: Mirrorpix)

Their bond is stronger than ever now, but it wasn’t always this way. Denise has spoken candidly about her struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, and the impact it had on her family.

“I did lots of things wrong. Matty and I had to have a come-to-Jesus about the things I was in denial about how my behaviour had impacted him,” she shared. “But he also said, ‘Then again, Mum, if our house wasn’t a bit rock and roll, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing’.”

Denise also opened up about suffering postnatal depression after Matty was born. Just days after bonding with her newborn, she spiralled into panic attacks and numbness.

“I couldn’t love anything. I felt nothing,” she recalled. “I didn’t hate the child, I didn’t want anything to happen to him. It was just like, why is this child here?”

With the support of her own mother, she was eventually able to rebuild that connection. Years later, Matty would write She Lays Down, a song inspired by her experience.

“I told him when he was older that depression robbed me of the ability to love, and I used to lay down on the bedroom floor and pray for the ability to love my children again,” she said.

These days, Denise regularly shares her pride for Matty and the band, reflecting on how far they’ve come – from teenage gigs in their garage to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. And after everything they’ve faced together, their bond is stronger than ever, with Denise cheering the loudest from the VIP section as her son takes his biggest stage yet.

Another EastEnders exit is on the way, with one star leaving the BBC soap after two years.

Anna Knight will leave Walford, as actress Molly Rainford is confirmed to be leaving the soap later this year. A BBC spokesperson confirmed the news to The Mirror, while it’s not known when the star’s final scenes will air exactly.

According to a source it was a mutual decision between actress Molly and soap bosses, following new Executive Producer Ben Wadey taking over the soap. It’s claimed Molly is ready for new ventures, while details on Anna’s exit remain under wraps for now.

The BBC told us on Thursday: “We can confirm that Molly Rainford will be leaving EastEnders later this year, and we wish her all the best for the future.” Anna’s biggest storylines have included her being spiked, being revealed as Cindy Beale’s daughter, and her love triangle with Bobby Beale and Freddie Slater.

A source confirmed the decision behind the exit, and said to The Sun: “New boss Ben Wadey is making sweeping changes on the show and his decision coincided with Mollie deciding she wanted to pursue other challenges.”

They added: “New boss Ben Wadey is making sweeping changes on the show and his decision coincided with Molly deciding she wanted to pursue other challenges.

“She’s hugely talented and wants to spread her wings and see what else is out there for her.” Molly’s character Anna arrived in 2023 as part of the Knight family, with dad George, sister Gina and stepmother Elaine Peacock. They took over The Queen Vic, and soon it was revealed Anna was Cindy’s secret daughter.

Anna’s love interest Freddie, played by Bobby Brazier, is also leaving the show but it’s not clear if the characters will depart together. Also leaving are cousins Bernadette Taylor and Felix Baker, played by Clair Norris and Matthew James Morrison.

As for Molly, an insider added: “Molly came into the show two years ago, and in that time has been trusted with some great storylines.

Clair's exit was also reported by the same publication

“It’s just so happened that when Molly was considering other options in her career, a meeting was held to discuss the future of the character, and both parties were in mutual agreement that it was the right time for Anna Knight to wave goodbye to Walford.”

Clair’s exit was also reported by the same publication. A source recently told The Sun: “Every time a soap gets a new boss they want to make their own changes – it’s nothing personal. The writing has been on the wall for Bernie for some time so it wasn’t really a surprise to Clair.”

“She was the last Taylor standing and it’s time to close the chapter on them and let Clair go on to do other things.” While another insider told the publication that “characters have to leave for new stories to begin” but that Clair will be missed.

Kate Garraway says it’s tough to ‘balance the budget’ after racking up between £500,000 and £800,000 of debt while caring for her late husband, Derek Draper.

Talking at the King’s Trust Awards with TK Maxx and Homesense, the Good Morning Britain presenter said of the cost of care, “It’s definitely tough to balance the budget, I feel like carers often don’t have a voice so I’m here to shout about it and the costs that go unnoticed.

“I wouldn’t want to be the chancellor right now with the costs going on overall right now.”

Broadcaster Kate, 48, cared for her husband Derek for four years as he suffered from an agonising health battle after contracting Covid-19 in 2020 and being left with long Covid, with the family faced with sky high costs to look after him.

Kate's husband Derek died last year
Kate was left with crippling costs after her husband Derek’s skyhigh cost of care during his battle with long covid

“Derek’s care costs more than my salary from ITV and that is before you pay for a mortgage, before you pay any household bills, before you pay for anything for the kids, so we are at a crunch point,” Kate said before Derek’s passing.

Kate returned to work on Good Morning Britain weeks after Derek’s death in January last year, and has since been an advocate for carers across the country.

“I think some people are probably a bit tired of me going on about carers and the lack of support, but I won’t because they need a voice,” said Kate.

The broadcaster has been supported by several of her colleagues amid the difficult time, and detailed her close relationship with former co-presenter Ben Shephard.

“Ben and I are great friends, I always see him in the studio on Thursdays because I’m in for GMB and he’s in for This Morning, so it’s lovely. He’s actually not happy with me right now because we’ve been meaning to go for lunch and haven’t yet. I owe him a lunch!”

Hot off the heels of visiting Buckingham Palace a day prior to the King’s Trust Awards, Kate said she was grateful to His Majesty for his continued support of her. “The king has a very charming personality and he’s always been so kind to me. He’s looking really well and healthy too, which was really nice to see,” shared Kate.

“The Kings Trust Awards is always a very special occasion and now Good Morning Britain is part of an award too so I feel like I can get involved anymore,” she explained, referencing the show’s involvement in the volunteer of the year award, which was won by Nabilla Zulfiqar.

EastEnders’ Julie Bates returns after 27 years as Nigel story takes heartbreaking turn

EastEnders have confirmed that Karen Henthorn is reprising her role as Nigel’s wife Julie Bates this summer – 27 years after she originally left the BBC soap

    Julie Bates

Karen Henthorn is set to reprise her role as Julie Bates this summer, EastEnders have confirmed. Julie was last seen on the Square in 1997, and is set to return as her husband Nigel Bates’ (Paul Bradley) dementia worsens.

When Nigel returned late last year, he told everyone he had separated from Julie. Later, he admitted that he didn’t want to become a burden to his wife, as he decided to leave to deal with his dementia alone. Viewers have seen Phil Mitchell looking after his friend, however, things have taken a heartbreaking turn as he struggles to cope with Nigel’s deteriorating condition alone.

As Kat saw Phil struggling earlier this week, she told him he needed to call his wife Julie. Although Phil was initially reluctant to go against Nigel’s wishes, it looks like Kat may have persuaded him, as Julie’s return has now been confirmed.

    Julie and Nigel
Karen has already started filming alongside Paul(Image: BBC)

It’s been 27 years since Karen last filmed on set – when Julie and Nigel moved to Scotland to start a new life together.

She says it’s been “delightful” to reunite with Paul Bradley. “It’s very surreal to be back in Albert Square after 27 years and working with the delightful Paul Bradley again – it’s scary how fast the time has gone!” she said.

“Julie has got some awful surprises ahead of her after the initial relief she feels to discover Nigel is still alive. It’s been great to film with Paul and Steve (McFadden), who are such lovely actors, as Julie discovers Nigel’s dementia diagnosis and why he chose to hide it from her.”

Speaking on Julie’s return to the Square, Executive Producer Ben Wadey said: “We are delighted to have Karen Henthorn returning to reprise her role as Julie, who arrives looking for Nigel.

    Karen Albert Square
Karen will be making her return to the Square after 27 years away(Image: BBC)

“Julie hasn’t seen Nigel in almost two years and is unaware of his diagnosis and reasons for leaving, so her arrival will pose questions for the pair of them.”

Despite last being seen on the Square almost three decades ago, Julie’s voice was heard earlier this year, as Nigel listened to a voice mail from his wife. Julie’s voice could be heard saying: “Nigel, it’s Julie again. I don’t know if you got my last message or…

“Listen, Nigel, I promise I’m not cross, whatever reason you walked out and disappeared, I just really need to know if you’re alright mate.”

It’s not yet been confirmed when exactly Julie will appear onscreen, but as Karen has started filming, fans can expect to see her in the coming weeks.

How will Nigel react to her return?

Jamie Oliver on marriage ‘rut’ with wife Jools after she admitted her friends ‘can’t believe’ how much they argue

They’ve renewed their vows at least twice since…

Jamie Oliver previously spoke out about the “rut” in his marriage with wife Jools.

TV star Jamie is one of the UK’s believed chefs. Since shooting or fame, he has not slowed down one bit. Away from the TV shows though, Jamie – who is hosting What To Eat This Week this weekend (June 28) – is all loved-up with wife Jools. The pair share five children together.

However, back in 2011, Jamie confessed that their marriage was in a “rut”, with his wife admitting that he ‘drives her mad’.

Jamie and Jools were high school sweethearts and met when they were just 17. Fast forward to 2000, and the lovebirds tied the knot at the historic All Saints Church in Rickling, Essex.

Jamie and Jools have gone on to have five kids together: Poppy Honey Rosie, Daisy Boo Pamela, Petal Blossom Rainbow, Buddy Bear Maurice, and River Rocket Blue Dallas.

And back in 2011, after 11 years of marriage, Jamie spoke out about marital life. But according to Jools, her friends “couldn’t believe” how much she and Jamie “bickered”.

He drives me mad because he never listens to me.

“I’m not a worrier but she is a worrier. I don’t need that and she doesn’t need that, so we’re in a bit of a rut,” he told The Times.

Jamie’s wife also spoke out about their frequent arguments. She explained: “We bicker all the time. A lot of my friends can’t believe how much. He drives me mad because he never listens to me and I drive him mad because I can be horribly selfish.”

    ‘She’s my rock’

Meanwhile more recently, in 2021 Jamie opened up on the lessons he had learned following more than two decades of marriage.

He told Now To Love: “I think you learn to love in lots of different ways.

“You learn to love the person you married but also, it’s exciting because the roller-coaster of growing, becoming parents, getting older, having grey hairs and wrinkles, you can love all those bits. You don’t just love one bit.”

Gushing about his wife, Jamie went on: “I feel very lucky. I started dating Jools when I was 18. She’s been a really solid and utterly important part of my life and my job’s quite exciting.

“It expects quite a lot, and she’s my rock. She allows me to do my thing but then comes home and lets me be me … And I think she still quite likes me, which is really nice.”

The couple also renewed their wedding vows last year. He announced they’d got “married again” during a trip to the Maldives. Earlier this year, they did it again. This time, Jools wore cowboy boots for the wedding which took place in Las Vegas.

Looks like the found their way out of that “rut”…!

The remarks came during an on-stage chat at the NEXUS Global Summit, where he addressed an audience of 350 potential philanthropists and investors, on Friday. Harry reflected on his personal journey from being born into a life of service to discovering his own purpose and about transitioning from having to serve to wanting to serve.

And he also emphasised that the Archewell Foundation, which he established with his wife Meghan, 43, in 2020, operates on principles of “compassionate leadership” and dedication to “something greater than ourselves”.

Harry, 40, said: “The thing that gives me the most hope is the grassroots approach. Many of you here today are connected and involved with so many community solutions, because it’s what energises all of you, and that service part is really what energises me as well.”

In 2021, after the couple stepped back from royal life, the Queen confirmed they would not “continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service”. In a response at the time, Harry and Meghan issued a terse statement saying: “We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

During his latest comments, Harry also urged attendees to “take care of each other and our children in the future” and to “tackle the systems instead of the symptoms keeping us down.”

And he encouraged the audience to consider their desired legacies and align their investments with that vision, while also using their platforms to foster meaningful collaboration and change.

He added: “As the world gets harder, as people’s lives become harder, compassion can shrink. My wife said to me very early on in our relationship ‘if you live your life by truth, it’s the most efficient way to live. We will continue to live our life by truth and we will continue to stand up for what we believe in – the difference between right and wrong.”

Speaking to Rachel Gerrol, co-founder and CEO of NEXUS Global, Harry spoke about the thinking behind campaigning for online safety. He said: “It wasn’t something that was sexy, it wasn’t something that we were necessarily passionate about.

“But it became very clear to us very quickly, speaking to a lot of experts, that for all the work we are collectively doing, and all the progress we are achieving – if the digital world is not done responsibly, it’s going to turn back that progress. And we can see that with climate change.’

He added: “We started to meet a lot of parents who had lost their kids to social media – the majority through suicide – and that’s when it really started to make sense to us.

“One of the reasons why the digital world was so important to us is because my wife, in 2018, was the most trolled person in the world. There was a lived experience, but at no point did we suddenly think ‘OK, well, let’s take this industry on’.”
