Former Brexit Party chief Nigel Farage is reportedly on the verge of signing up for ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ and Janet Street-Porter has urged ITV bosses to do a deal

Viewers aren’t happy that Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter is demanding ITV bosses sign up Nigel Farage for I’m A Celebrity- and says that he once left her to pay for a cab they both shared.

The former Brexit Party chief is said to be advanced talks to head into the Australian jungle with telly sources confirming to the Mirror that Farage is one of a number of names in talks to appear on the show. The move would be sure to spark outrage similar to former health secretary Matt Hancock’s inclusion last year.

Speaking on the programme, Janet says the experiment should be repeated and wants to see the controversial politician on the show when it returns this winter. Farage has previously said he has been approached before but sounded unsure if he would sign up.

She told the panel: “I think it will be brilliant if he goes in. He’s super smart, even if I don’t agree with his politics. I do think he’ll be very entertaining if we can tolerate the wittering. We’ve already seen his other side, he is a very colourful character. I had dinner with him a few years ago at somebody’s house. He asked after if he could jump in my taxi and get it to drop him off at Charing Cross station. He never gave me any money for the fare! What does that tell you about Nigel Farage?”

Coleen Nolan then joked: “I think we should just stick them all in. I think we would find out more of the truth if we deprived them of stuff, threw horrible things at them – nobody writing speeches for them, then we can see them real people and the public can say ‘he’ll be a good Prime Minister’.”

Janet’s comments didn’t go down well after host Christine Lampard asked if it’s right to be treating politicians as celebrities. On twitter, one raged: “@loosewomen promoting Farage for I’m a Celebrity which of course is an ITV programme. Sick in the extreme.”

Another wrote: “Farage will be ‘very good viewing’… blimey, it’s like the constant promo of Love Island all over again #loosewomen” while a third pointed out: “If Nigel Farage was going to be on I’m A Celeb there’s no way ITV would be discussing it in a negative manner as it’s their flagship show.”

Some would be happy to watch him squirm, and posted: “It will be good to see Nigel Farage with a kangaroo’s anus in his mouth” and someone else had similar thoughts, writing: “If he is up for every single task I could live with seeing that face every day.”

Talking on his GB News show in November last year, Farage said: “Well there’s been a lot of speculation over the years about me going into the jungle. It’s appeared in all sorts of newspapers. I have been approached several times by I’m a Celebrity …Get Me Out of Here! and I’ve always ruled it out.

“I’ve never thought it would be a good thing to do. I thought it’s all rather humiliating, frankly. But I suppose you can never ever say never. I’d love to get actually some of your reaction, some of your feedback on whether you think I should be in the jungle, or whether you think we should leave it to people like Matt Hancock.”
