Prince Harry is currently in Africa on his latest solo tour without his wife Meghan Markle.
Prince William is expected to visit South Africa shortly after his brother was there
Prince William has hinted at an upcoming visit to South Africa in November, which would come just weeks after his brother Prince Harry completed his solo tour of the region.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ official social media account, @KensingtonRoyal, posted a message saying: “There are just five weeks to go until we’re in Cape Town for the fourth annual @EarthshotPrize!”
The tweet, which was accompanied by a video of William discussing the Earthshot Prize alumni, featured an enthusiastic sign-off: “Can’t wait to be in South Africa this November #EarthshotCapeTown.”
Despite the excitement, the post stopped short of explicitly confirming whether William himself will attend in person.
However, as the driving force behind the Earthshot Prize, William has attended every award presentation since its inception.
This year’s event in Cape Town promises to continue the momentum, following successful ceremonies held in Singapore last year, Boston in 2022, and London’s Alexandra Palace in 2021.
The 2024 Earthshot Prize awards will be held during Earthshot Week, beginning on November 6.
The week aims to highlight the best environmental innovations, culminating in a ceremony that will see five winners each awarded £1 million to scale their impactful solutions.
The event will also feature Earthshot+, a day of discussions designed to maximise the impact of the prize winners and finalists.
While the Earthshot Prize has always been a collaborative effort, it appears that Princess Kate will not join her husband in South Africa this year.
The Princess of Wales is recovering following her recently completed cancer treatment and did not attend the awards in Singapore last year due to family commitments.
Nevertheless, she was present at the events in 2021 and 2022, showcasing her commitment to the cause
Prince Harry is currently on tour in the Southern parts of Africa
Prince William’s hint about traveling to South Africa comes as his brother, Prince Harry, has been actively involved in his own charitable initiatives in the region.
Prince Harry is visiting Lesotho for the first time since 2018, attending a series of engagements in support of Sentebale, the youth-focused charity he co-founded with Lesotho’s Prince Seeiso nearly two decades ago.
Harry’s visit was aimed at driving forward initiatives focused on digital and economic inclusion for young people, while also addressing broader social issues like health, wealth inequity, and climate change.
In Johannesburg, Harry and Prince Seeiso are set to meet with South Africa-based stakeholders, including a panel discussion focused on philanthropy that goes beyond financial donations.
This event will further spotlight the Duke of Sussex’s efforts to bring meaningful change through Sentebale, which was initially founded to help children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS but has since expanded its mission.
