Prince George’s Christmas list speaks volumes about his upbringing

The Royal Family embraces a blend of festivities at Sandringham Estate, where they uphold German traditions, such as opening presents on Christmas Eve. Despite their unique heritage, it appears that the likes of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis still revel in the delights of Father Christmas’s visit on Christmas Day.

But what gifts do you get for the royals who seemingly have everything? Prince George’s wish list from 2017 might give us a clue, indicating that Royal desires aren’t so different after all. During a trip to Esplanade Park in Finland back in 2017, proud dad Prince William presented George’s Christmas list directly to Santa, showing that the four year old Royal simply hoped for a toy police car.

Prince William met Santa Claus during a two-day visit to Finland in 2017A nostalgic photo of this moment has since resurfaced, capturing the hearts of Royal enthusiasts. Fans on social media have been vocal about young George’s refreshingly ordinary request. Comments ranged from one admirer saying: “I like a boy who knows his own mind. And I adore that the future king’s wants are so much like any other child’s,” reports OK!.

To another jokingly remarking: “A dad who knows Santa personally, I wanted that! ” And yet another responded: “How lovely Prince William was for giving George’s letter to Father Christmas.”

Prince George’s request for a police car showed he was following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, who once had a different career aspiration. Despite being born into a life of royalty, William had considered a career as a policeman, inspired by a desire to protect his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

George requested a police car for Christmas in a letter given to SantaAccording to Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton, William had expressed this ambition in a conversation with his mother and brother Harry. He wrote: “William and Harry were aware of their destiny. On one occasion, the boys were discussing their futures with Diana.

“‘When I grow up I want to be a policeman and look after you Mummy,’ said William. Quick as a flash Harry replied, with a note of triumph in his voice, ‘Oh no you can’t, you’ve got to be king’,” Andrew continued.

Years later, William revealed that George had developed a similar fascination with the police. At a reception at Kensington Palace, Police Commissioner Jayne Richardson mentioned the need for more officers in the area, joking: “We are recruiting, actually, so if George and Charlotte are keen?” William chuckled and replied: “[George] is obsessed, actually, by the police… cars, toys, everything.”
