With the Christmas holidays just a few weeks away, it now seems safe to assume that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be staying stateside. According to a royal insider, Meghan and Harry have been snubbed when it comes to celebrating Christmas at Sandringham per tradition, and though it’s been years since they gathered with Harry’s family for the holidays, this time, it appears they weren’t even given the option if they wanted to.

According to what an insider told People, the couple did not receive an invite to Sandringham, where the royals famously take their Christmas walk every year as they celebrate the holiday. Both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have declined to comment on the situation.

That walk was more than a year before the Sussexes would announce that they were walking away from royal life entirely ahead of their move to California, which is now their home base. Though Meghan and Harry have traveled back and forth between the United States and the United Kingdom for bigger royal events in the years since, the Christmas holidays have never been one of them.

They also weren’t invited to Trooping the Colour over the summer, as People pointed out — and it doesn’t seem that they’ve spent much time with the royals at all, even though Harry has found himself in the UK multiple times in the past several months.
For Harry. it reminds him that he doesn’t have any of his side of the family to celebrate with,” the source said. “The kids won’t be seeing their cousins, and that was one of his favorite things growing up — all the cousins playing together at Sandringham. It may well even hurt seeing all the royals together, going to church and just enjoying each other’s company

They both really wish that they could have all their families together and have a huge Christmas but they know that will never happen,” the source added. “So they have to make new memories and traditions with their children and those close to them.”
