Why Nicola Peltz skipped Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday as rumours of a feud are reignited

Nicola Peltz skipping Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday party has reignited rumours that their feud is back on.

The designer and former Spice Girl celebrated the milestone with a star-studded bash in London, along with her husband David Beckham, their four children Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 19 and daughter Harper, 12, as well as many famous faces, such as Tom Cruise and Victoria’s fellow Spice Girls. However, there was one face missing from the celebrity guest list, and that was Victoria’s daughter-in-law Nicola.

The actress, 29, married Victoria and David’s oldest child Brooklyn in a lavish ceremony in Miami back in April 2022, but their nuptials reportedly sparked a bitter rift between the two women. And Nicola has seemingly reignited that feud by being notably absent from the party, instead choosing to spend time with her elderly grandmother in the US. Taking to social media to explain her absence, Nicola uploaded a snap of her hugging her grandmother, who was sweetly given the title of maid of honour at the actress’s wedding.

“My world in my arms,” she wrote, before uploading a shot of Victoria posing with her family ahead of the epic 50th birthday bash at private members’ club Oswald’s. “I’m so sad I’m not there to celebrate you and hug you! Sending all my love from me and Naunni,” she wrote, tagging Victoria in the post on Instagram Stories. “I miss you all so much!”

However, fans speculated that the bitter feud between Victoria and Nicola was back on, almost two years after it first started. It began when Nicola was due to wear one of the famous designer’s creations as her wedding dress, but many were stunned to discover she had actually chosen a Valentino gown instead at the last minute. Victoria was reportedly “thrilled” at the time that her then-future daughter-in-law had agreed to have her design a couture creation for her wedding day, and was reportedly heartbroken when Nicola opted for another fashion house.

It was also reported that Nicola was becoming agitated with Victoria wanting to be involved in the planning of her wedding, and “communication was minimal” between the two in the run up to the big day. During the wedding reception, Victoria and David were also snubbed by Nicola, who chose to have her family – as well as groom Brooklyn – seated at the top table, with none of her new husband’s relatives invited to join them.

Singer Marc Anthony, who is a close friend of David Beckham, was involved in another incident on the chaotic wedding day, as he began to perform a touching song while Victoria was dancing with her son Brooklyn. He then delivered a gushing speech about the former Spice Girl, much to the dismay of Nicola, who was spotted leaving the wedding reception with her sister Brittany and mother Claudia Peltz.

Nicola was then splashed across the front of Tatler magazine as she was crowned “The New Mrs. Beckham” by the publication, and her comments in the accompanying interview were rumoured to be a pointed reference to her famous in-laws. She claimed Brooklyn had been under “pressure” for his career choices, and had even turned to her father for financial advice, rather than his own dad David.

She later tried to explain why she had turned down Victoria’s offer to create a wedding dress, as Nicola blamed the designers “atelier” for being unable to do it. “I was going to and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realised that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress,” she told Variety. “She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that.”
