Ryan Garcia claims he broke Devin Haney’s JAW during his stunning upset win in Brooklyn as he hits back at critics who ‘over-egg everything’

Ryan Garcia has claimed he broke Devin Haney‘s jaw during his astonishing majority decision victory on Saturday night.

Previously unbeaten world champion Haney was floored three times during the all-American bout in Brooklyn, New York.

Scorecards of 112-112, 114-110 and 115-109 saw the decision go to Garcia, whose left hook proved devastating.

However, the Californian did not win Haney’s WBC light-welterweight title after missing weight for the contest.

In the aftermath of the fight, Garcia posted on X: ‘Damn Devin has a broken jaw allegedly. The name of the game I suppose. What’s next?’

Underdog Garcia made a blistering start to the contest, landing a left hook in the first minute to buckle Haney’s legs.

Haney recovered and appeared to have control until he was sent to the canvas for the first time in his professional career in the seventh round.

Garcia continued his offensive despite having a point deducted for throwing a punch after the referee asked the boxers to break.

He sent Haney to the canvas twice more but both were ruled as non-knockdowns before flooring him again in the 10th and the 11th with left hooks.

Garcia was criticised for his behaviour during the build-up to the fight, culminating in him coming in 3.2lbs overweight on Friday.

He’d previously agreed to pay Haney $500,000 for every pound he came in overweight – costing him a huge $1.5million.

His recent erratic tweets and behaviour in fight week led many to question whether the contest should go ahead.

It began in March, when Garcia claimed he was dead after having his ‘throat slit’.

He got into a spat with an audience member at Thursday’s press conference after going on an expletive-laden rant with mothers and dogs and body parts all mentioned.

In recent days, Garcia has also proposed to Australian porn star Savannah Bond, has accused Haney of a hate crime while identifying himself as a woman, and was kicked out of a New York Mets game before he even threw out a planned first pitch.

But after his win, Garcia said: ‘You really thought I was crazy? You all lost your own minds. You guys over-egg everything.’

Haney, who suffered his first defeat in 32 pro bouts, said: ‘I’m disappointed about my performance. I [showed I] was a true champion and I could fight after being knocked down.

‘I fell asleep on the left hook. We trained for it but I got in there and fell asleep.

‘I gave him a shot, it’s only right he gives me a shot back. He didn’t make weight, so I’m still the champion. We can run it back.’
