Promoter Frank Warren has questioned why Mike Tyson has been sanctioned to box Jake Paul aged 58.

Tyson is set to fight Paul on July 20, and it was recently confirmed that the pair would meet in a sanctioned professional bout despite their 31-year age gap.

And when asked who was more at risk out of Paul and Tyson given the new rules, Warren echoed these thoughts in a chat with Jim White and Simon Jordan on talkSPORT.

“If Mike Tyson clips him in the first or second round, then you’d think Jake Paul [would be more at risk],” Warren said.

“But at the end of the day, you have to think that the 58-year-old guy is at risk.

“If that comes across a commission’s desk and they have rubber stamped that, I mean come on.

“What hearing did they have when they were all sat around that table?

“Remember these American commissions are state commissions appointed by the state, so the state and government have a say in that.”

Warren is not overly impressed with the showdown

Tyson reigned as an undisputed world champion during his heyday, but is considered far from his prime despite still possessing his thunderous power in short bursts.

Jake Paul admits he is ‘nervous’ about boxing Mike Tyson after watching his terrifying training footage

Paul has suggested he is well within his rights to face Tyson, and even stated he was ‘nervous’ to step in the ring with the power-punching veteran.

He said: “Yeah. It’s motivating, I think it is good to carry fear into the ring and with you on a daily basis when you’re training because it makes you better.

“But Mike, looking good on the mitts is not even half the battle. You have to face me in the ring.

“I think he’s seeing these videos of how good he looks on the mitts and he’s getting turned up and his confidence is probably growing.”
